* As you can see, we turn masculine professions into feminine by using
certain suffixes such as к , иц, ниц and the ending а to indicate thefeminine gender.
** “suffix” is a syllable that is added to the main part of a word called the“root”.
***Please note that some professions do have conversational feminineforms (i.e. “до ́ кторша”, but they do not tend to be used in formal contextand could be considered impolite)

GENDER EXCEPTIONS
Some words that describe a masculine concept have feminineendings and some words with feminine endings are treated asneuter words. There are not too many of these and we willthink of them in terms of the appropriate concept, butgrammatically we will treat them depending on their ending.
Here are the most common ones:
