OPENING REMARKS: ONE BY ONE INTRODUCTION

On 18th April 2018there was calm after the storm. Right from the moment of conceptualization, up to the moment that the gates were actually thrown open to the speakers and the delegates, the team worked tirelessly and at fearsome pace to set up the conference. Events 4 Sure excels under pressure and it proved its credentials once again. The international conference received the perfect start with a seamless registration process. The registration desk, manned by the Events 4 Sure on-site team, made sure that the participating delegates were registered without much ado and in no time were seated to embark on the journey along with the speakers for the event. The tired for sure, yet forever smiling and courteous. This dedicated lot ensured that the delegates received all the information regarding the one-day event and the pre-designed delegate kits to help them acclimatize with the details of the event.

We inhabit an increasingly litigious world. Cross-border disputes have become more and more frequent in recent years, with most matters involving two or three foreign countries – and in some cases as many as 50 jurisdictions. Board scrutiny of cross-border disputes is also intensifying. Directors worry about what these disputes mean for corporate reputations, and how the cost and exposure to such risks impact their business models. Deeper and a clearer understanding of dispute resolution strategies is the need of the hour. Prior to making a roadmap of what steps to take in such situations, it is imperative to understand the components involved and the challenges that they hold. An informed decision, as to the course of action to be taken, goes a long way in enabling better choices being made. The 41st Global Legal and IP ConfEx was conceived to address these pertinent questions relating to cross-border disputes, recognizing such disputes as impacting influences on business models, and their resolutions, considered thereafter. The topic of the conference was aptly titled ‘People Still Matter in IP & Legal World: Strengthened Corporate Governance Through the Use of People and Technolo-gy" which was followed by “The World of Corporate Intelligence: Facts and Fiction”.The conference, held on 18th April 2018, atHabitat World, India Habitat Centre, Convention Centre,Lodhi Road,New Delhi, Indiawas organized for In-house lawyers, law firm partners, e-Discovery professionals, technology/outsourcing service executives, buyers, service providers and other stakehold-ers in the legal, IP, e-Discovery and technology/outsourcing industries. In line with its track record of organizing world-class international conferences, Events 4 Sure conceptualized and created a global forum for corporate legal & IP departments, law firms, and solution providers to discuss strategies that can help them succeed in an increasingly complex and competitive legal environment. The conference was a platform for IP, law and e-Discovery professionals to network, develop relationships, and discuss trends and issues in the global law/IP world.

With the onus of hosting this event and making it a grand success, we kick-started it with an introductory session. All our participants introduced themselves briefly, thusbreaking the ice and getting to know the who’s who of the industry. This short yet effective session helped one and all to ease in a seemingly new environ-ment!

It is the keynote session that sets the ball rolling for any conference, and so was the case with the Delhi Global Legal & IP ConfEx as well. The dais was graced by the presence of some exemplary speakers, of the likes of Mr. SudeepSanyal, Regional Vice President, Sale,Apttus Corporation, India took the dais along with Rahul Gosain, Director - Alvarez &Marsal India Private Ltd, India, who expressed their thoughts on how to ‘Strengthen Corporate Governance Through the Use of People and Technology’, the next keynote speakersMrAbhijitYa-dav,Principal Global Investigations & Strategic Intelligence Practice, Berkeley Research Group, India and Mr. Mark Bravin, Head of International Disputes to Practice, Mitchell Silberberg &Knupp LLP, USA threw light on the subject of ‘The World of Corporate Intelligence: Facts and Fiction’.All the keynote speakers opened the conference with topics that were extremely relevant to the gathered delegates. The interactions with the delegates also helped the take-off of the conference with a bang.

THE KEYNOTE

While the thirst for knowledge and information was successfully catered to, the hunger pangs and had stated their dance and inevitably so. And as always and Food and Beverage Management team was well-prepared for this. We laid out a grand lunch and a sumptuous one at that. While refueling their systems, our delegates did not miss the opportunity to have a tête–à–tête with the key members of the industry who were also a part of this event. Several visiting cards exchanged hands, and key alliances were made, all thanks to the large, unmatched platform that this event offered!

CROSSROADSThanks to the thought-provoking keynote session, the participating delegates wanted amoment to ponder on it all, while sipping on some freshly brewed tea and coffee. Thismuch needed break, was targeted at Informal Network-ing with Exhibitors. The delegatesmade the most of this welcome opportuni-ty. After this short recess, the delegates were thenleft free to attend the panel discussions of their choice.

In Hall A, the topic of discussion was How Artificial Intelligence is a risk to lawyers’ Profession. The discussion in Hall B was concerned about the Effective management of Bribery and Corruption Risk.

CLOSING & COCKTAILAll that starts has to finally end but it lays the foundation forfuture progress to follow. Following the closing remarks, thenetworking cocktail reception celebrated the presence of ourspeakers and sponsors who made this event happen with theirundaunting support and participation. The bubbly did floweventually, but the bubbles of excitement had been evident allthrough the day in the sessions, exhibited by all concerned -organizers, speakers, delegates, exhibitors, and sponsors.Events 4 Sure once again proved its success at organizingprofessionally managed events. All thanks to our sponsors, ourparticipants, and most importantly - our ‘Team’, that worked-tirelessly to execute the laid-out plans!

STRATEGIC ROUND TABLE / UNCONFERENCELike for all major conferences organized by Events 4 Sure, the 41st Global Legal &IP ConfEx of New Delhi also concluded with a staggering Strategic Round Table which bought dignitaries from all segments - The Law Firms, the In-Houses Legal Departments and Service Providers on a single platform, voicing their views and opinions on the way towards fostering a global legal ecosystem, which is the need of the hour.

The Legal Hub where In-House Counsel can foster business growth, yet another relevant subject, also gripped the attention of the panelists present at the podium. To the extreme delight of one and all, this interactive session took the entire event to the zenith of enthrall-ment, something that will be fondly remembered by one and all for a long time to come.
