248 registered attendees, 5 Brighton Baptist folks, and 6 kitchen crew attended Y-WKND (Youth Weekend) this
past weekend at Brighton Baptist. Oak Grove had 17 Youth, 7 leaders, and 2 drivers. Students from multiple Big
Hatchie churches, and even one from Byhalia, MS participated in worship, the hearing of God’s Word, small group
breakout sessions, E/Groups on Prayer, Missions, Worship, etc. At the end of the 1st night, they played glow dodge
ball and a silent disco at the end of the 2nd night. Then the students returned to host homes for snacks and
fellowship.
Blake Appleby, a student pastor from central Florida, challenged the students to build their life on the right founda-
tion—Jesus Christ, and to obey His Word. He also spoke on the Holy Spirit, the source of the believer’s power. Only
then can Christians excel or “ … do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men …” (Colossians 3:23).
Thanks to all who helped put Oak Grove’s Y-WKND together, but especially to Daniel & Sarah Dykes, who led the
way in planning and instructions to leaders, parents, and students. But most of all for
spending time with our Youth and discipling them to grow closer to the Lord.

The ACORNS enjoyed a Valentine pot luck lunch on February 14th in the FLC following Harriet Cannon's
program and devotional about the meaning of meeting God Face to Face. She encouraged us to let
others see the Face of God in us. The games and fellowship were very enjoyable, and the food was
exceptionally good.
Our next meeting will be a trip to Kissell's Kitchen in Ripley on March 14th.
Watch the bulletin for the time the bus will leave the church parking lot on that day.

Christian Symbol
CHALICE & CROSS — The chalice with a cross rising from it symbolizes
Christ’s obedient suffering, even unto death. The cross is
called a “passion cross,” with pointed ends that represent
suffering. We remember that in the garden of Gethsemane,
Jesus begged his Father that the “cup” of suffering be taken
from him. But ultimately, he prayed, “Not as I will, but as you
will” (Matthew 26:39, NIV).

Christians ought not to be smothered in fear. There is a
spiritual readiness, where we return to having the
peace of God stand guard over our hearts and minds.
What an incredible witness it is to a lost and fearful so-
ciety when the Christian acts like a child of God, living
under the loving sovereignty of the heavenly Father.
The Christian needs to walk in peace, so no matter
what happens they will be able to bear witness to a
watching world.

To search our souls, to meditate,
will not suffice for Lent.
To share the cross, to sacrifice;
these are the things God meant.
—Jane McKay Lanning
How does your physical stature — or lack of it — affect
your daily life? Maybe you have to stoop under certain
doorways. Or maybe you buy shoes that make you
taller.
Now consider your spiritual “height.” Do you, like young
Jesus, strive to grow each day — in wisdom, if not in
stature? What “giants” make you feel inadequate?
When “the battle is the Lord’s” (1 Samuel 17:47), as
young David told Goliath before slaying him, human
size doesn’t matter. Because we serve a “big” God who
lives in us and works through us, we can stand tall and
confident in his strength. No matter our physical
height, let’s use every opportunity to reach up and step
out as Jesus’ hands and feet.
