Lent is coming!!!

But you may ask, “What is Lent and why does it last forty days?”

Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of

Easter. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. In the early

church, Lent was a time to prepare new converts for baptism. Today,

Christians focus on their relationship with God, often choosing to give

up something or volunteering and giving of themselves for others. The

forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the

temptation of Satan. Sundays in Lent are not counted in the forty days

because each Sunday represents a "mini-Easter" celebration of the Jesus'

victory over sin and death.

This year, Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, March 5th. That day we

will have times of the imposition of ashes at 9:30 a.m., noon, 3:00 and

6:30 p.m.

Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on

the foreheads of people as a celebration and reminder of human

mortality, and as a sign of mourning and repentance to God. The ashes

used are typically gathered from the burning of the palms from the

previous year's Palm Sunday.

During the 6 weeks of Lent, we will be focusing on John 3:16, which is

the Hope Diamond of the Bible: “For God so loved the world that He

gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish

but have eternal life.”

Plan on being with us each week as we explore this series centered on

the marvelous hope of Easter!

CELEBRATIONS: Our children have donated 161 items to our food pantry since the start of the school year. GOOD JOB! Remember that we collect both food pantry items and money offerings each week in Sunday school. Congratulations to Amelia DeLaTorre and Natalie Mazo who earned enough stars to choose from the Treasure Box. Remember, children earn stars by attendance, bringing an offering, bringing a food pantry item, bringing their Bible and bringing a friend. Good job Amelia and Natalie!

SPRING BREAK OUTING

Kindergarten – 5th Graders

Let’s explore some of God’s

wonderful creations at

Flamingo Gardens

Wednesday afternoon, March 26th

Complete a permission slip (located on the

Children’s Ministry bulletin board in the

Thousands upon thousands of students flock to the beach

during Spring Break to escape the rigors of school. In their

search for the "good life," we are offering a unique

opportunity to show our students the way to abundant life

through Jesus Christ. In order to fulfill our church mission of “Transforming Lives”, as well as

“Impacting 2,014 in 2014”, the youth ministry is planning a Spring Break Outreach Project. Each

day of Spring Break we will be doing mini-missions by serving at a South Florida ministry or

outreach center doing various projects. This outreach project is a chance for our teens to reach out

to our own communities to be an example of Christ, and is the perfect way for our teach teenagers

how to give back to the world around them. The experience will prove to be life changing for all

involved.

Spring Break Outreach Project Schedule:

Monday, March 24: Jubilee Soup Kitchen

Tuesday, March 25: The Lord’s Place - changes the lives of homeless individuals and

families in Palm Beach County

Wednesday, March 26: Touching Miami with Love- Provides a safe haven for children and youth of

Valentine’s Dinner Experience

We all need to eat and drink to stay alive.

But having a meal is more than eating and

drinking. It is celebrating the gifts of life we

share. A meal together is one of the most

intimate ands scared human events. Much

more happens at a meal than satisfying

hunger and quenching thirst. Around the

table we become family, friends, community, yes, a body. That is why it is so important

to “set” the table. Flowers, candles, colorful napkins all help us to say to one another,

“this is a very special time for us, let’s enjoy it!” Henri J. M. Nouwen

We enjoyed the Valentine’s Dinner, we became a family, a community, the body of

Christ. We had fun together, and we enjoyed the presence of each other. The pictures

of this activity are in the lobby. Feel free to take yours as a token of that night and

remember that God’s love is endless. Great night! Great people! Thanks be to God!
