Health reform is a lot like the parable of the blind men and the elephant: Depending on where you touch it, it feels different.

Their opinions are as varied as the nature of their businesses. But they all agree on one thing: Health reform is a big animal.

A new lawsuit might give employees pause in how they use social network-ing in the work place.

TEKsystems Inc. is accusing three former employees of its Edina offi ce, including a Bloomington woman named Brelyn Hammernik, of vio-lating noncompete and non-solicit agreements.

Hunger in Second Harvest Heartland’s service area has doubled in the past five years. Each year, 468,000 children, seniors and adults visit our partner food shelves. With each $50 gift, we can provide 180 meals to our neighbors in need.

Harvester is easier than ever to manage.

We’ve created a new way to access the Harvester Program online and control monthly giving through a secure, password-protected account. This new account lets you adjust your donation any time you like — an important feature, especially in uncertain economic times.

What’s on the mind of a 40 Under Forty honoree? We wanted to know, so we asked.

The responses — which you can see for yourselves in the following pages — are as varied as the 40 hon-

orees themselves, and they give a good idea of the sort of achieve-ments that have become just a part of everyday life for this crew of business and community leaders.

For those unfamiliar with this project, each year we spotlight some of the region’s most talented and successful young leaders. We regularly receive hundreds of nominations, selecting from those entries 40 men and women who have established them-selves as leaders in the Twin Cities and are poised for even bigger things. If you do business here, an honoree is somebody you’ll want to know — if you don’t already.

We tried something a bit different this year, giving over more space for the honorees to express themselves in their own words. That approach seems to fit well in a culture where “What’s on your mind?” personal statements are part and parcel of daily life, and it directly led to the Twitter-esque design of the publication.

We tried to keep the questions fairly on topic and relevant to honorees’ careers and achieve-ments. There are also a few to let the 40 reveal a bit about their personalities, but we tried hard not to include any “If you were a tree …” questions. (The answer’s always “maple” anyway.)

Of the questions we asked our honorees, my favorite was “Name something that you thought was cool, then thought was lame, and now think is cool again.” Some of the respons-es were off-the-cuff and some were deeply introspective. A couple people said they never recalibrated their coolometers to begin with.

My one regret: We simply couldn’t fit all of their answers on our pages; some of them got squeezed out. Fortunately, there’s still space on the Internet: Feel free to visit mspbj.com and find their complete surveys and profiles there.

Thanks very much, and congratulations to this year’s 40 Under Forty!

HOMETOWN: MankatoAGE: 29BIO: Search for a recipe or just browse on one of General Mills Inc.’s Web pages — and about 100 million people do each year — and you’re seeing some of Tim Huebsch’s handiwork. Huebsch is a manager in charge of the com-pany’s consumer Internet content systems.

His work goes well beyond the online world. Huebsch co-founded General Mills Foundation Ambassadors, an outreach effort that connects General Mills employees directly with the nonprofi ts funded by the company’s foundation.

He also is a member of the United Way Leadership Giving Advisory Board, and is the youngest-ever president for the Minnesota State University-Mankato Alumni Association.

If you weren’t in the career you’re in, what would you be doing?

Leading a foundation or nonprofi t

What gets you excited about work?Helping to make a difference in our busi-

ness and community while working with great people

What’s your biggest achievement?Making the decision to seek one experience

each year not related to my day job. This has allowed me to learn so much and meet great people across many disciplines.

What’s been your biggest challenge?Balancing demands between work, commu-

nity and other commitments

The best compliment you’ve ever received:

Hearing my mentee’s sincere apprecia-tion for me taking the time to believe in him and help him succeed

Name something you thought was cool, then thought was lame and now think is cool again.

Handwritten notes. Always enjoyed in

school, but as I got more into technology ev-erything was e-mail. I now really appreciate handwritten notes and writing with nice pens over always typing messages.

An accessory you’re never without:Apple iPhone

Where can you be found online?Mainly on my Web site: http://www.

timhuebsch.com, but also blogging at http://www.leadershipandcommunity.com and on-line via LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter

HOMETOWN: Somerset, Wis.AGE: 39BIO: John Hinz has worked at Buffalo Wild

Wings Inc. (BWW) for more than a decade, during which time he’s helped the restaurant chain grow from 48 locations to more than 650.

Much of that growth has come from pro-grams that Hinz developed, such as an award-winning vendor partnership program and an advertising development strategy that BWW has won eight national restaurant awards for. He’s a member of The Millennium Board, a restaurant industry group, and is a longtime member of Ducks Unlimited.

If you weren’t in the career you’re in, what would you be doing?

In my younger days, I always wanted be a sports writer. I spent my college years writing

for the newspaper at St. Thomas and other local papers in the metro area.

What gets you excited about work?

The brand is electric. It’s like no other, but there

are a plethora of untapped opportunities.

What’s your biggest achievement?Brand consistency. We’ve worked extremely

hard over the years to develop and evolve a consistent brand presence. Further, we’ve avoided the temptation to become like every-one else in the industry.

What’s been your biggest challenge? The most diffi cult challenge for most people

is managing time for professional and person-

al lives, and I have the same issue.

The best compliment you’ve ever received:That I truly care about people

Name something you thought was cool, then thought was lame and now think is cool again.

Sweater vests

An accessory you’re never without:The BlackBerry is usually in arm’s reach.

Where can you be found online?Because I want to make sure that BWW gets

as much out of me as possible, I don’t spend anytime online.

Best quote, tweet or random thought you’ve heard in the past year.

“If everyone is thinking alike, then some-body isn’t thinking.” — Gen. George Patton Jr.

What is your favorite song?“Beautiful Day,” by U2

HOMETOWN: Minneapolis AGE: 33 BIO: The real-estate industry is a heavily net-worked one; Steven Ladin is taking that trend

online in a big way, while continuing to build a growing specialty company of his own. His fi rm, Ladin Ventures, focuses on small busi-nesses — companies like salons, small restau-rants and others that sail under the radar of many commercial real estate fi rms.

He writes about the real-estate scene on his blog, The Real Estate Schmoozer, and also helped create an online community for the Susan G. Komen Twin Cities Race for the Cure.

If you weren’t in the career you’re in, what would you be doing?

I would do something similar that connects me with other entrepreneurs to help them achieve their business goals.

What gets you excited about work?

A b s o l u t e l y everything

What’s your biggest

achievement?I cannot pinpoint to one specifi c thing at

this time. Let’s talk again in 60 years.

What’s been your biggest challenge?Balancing business with my family

The best compliment you’ve ever received:I’ve been called an “old soul.” It could have

been a backhanded compliment due to me be-ing follicle-challenged.

Name something you thought was cool, then thought was lame and now think is cool again.

Brick cell phones. How cool did Gordon Gekko look with that in hand during the movie Wall Street? Ladin Ventures is even in the pro-cess of customizing a branded Brick cell phone protective silicone skin as a client giveaway.

An accessory you’re never without:My iPhone, my humility and my sense of

humor Where can you be found online?

I’m always tweeting, which in turn syncs to all my social network accounts (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.). You can follow me on Twitter @LadinVentures.

Best quote, tweet or random thought you’ve heard in the past year.

“A successful man is one who can build a fi rm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him.” —David Brinkley
