Surface of LED disc can be hot to touch

Do not rebend the LED armature multiple times as this will fatigue the steel.

Handling the softlight on a clean horizontal surface, with clean hands will keep the white

textile material looking its best.

The white textile material of the honeycomb structure is non woven polyethylene and you

can clean it gently with mild soap and water and a non abrasive cloth. Abrasive cleaners

could lift the fine fibre of the textile. Leave urchin in open shape to dry. Never clean the

honeycomb structure while in use with the electrical component.

Dusting periodically with a synthetic duster or compressed air canister is recommended.

The honeycomb structure of the urchin softlight is intended to expand, contract and flex

in an elastic way so that you can transform the shape into multiple variations of the form.

We would never want to discourage curiosity and play but it should be done with a level

of gentle care. The urchin will loose some of its elastic tension with excessive stretching

and movement of the honeycomb structure. You can regain some of this tension and

shape memory by compressing the urchin into its flattened form and allowing it to rest

horizontally for a few days or more.

The LED provided has a 30,000 hours +/- lifespan. At the end of this long life a new LED

can be attached, the attachment point is magnetic.

Bend armature upwards from base until the top circle is horizontal / parallel to the base circle.

The elastic honeycomb geometry of urchin will morph through a multitude of forms as you

gently rotate it through and around its own center with your hands. You can even undo the

magnetic panels and turn the urchin shade inside out to create straight walled cylinders and

conical forms!

urchin softlight has an animate tactile character, inviting playful interaction. The elastic three-dimensional honeycomb geometry of urchin will morph through a multitude of forms as you rotate it through and around its own centre with your hands. It can even be turned inside out to create straight walled cylinders and conical forms. Adjusting the form of urchin also adjusts the intensity, direction and quality of light, a beautiful, tactile way of shaping the light of an intimate space. urchin is for indoor / dry use only and comes complete with an energy efficient LED light source in daylight white 4800K or warm white 3300K.
