The purpose of this event is to provide information to the hundreds of seniors, their families and caregivers, and those on their way to becoming seniors who reside in the Kingston area, and to facilitate access to government and community services and to encourage healthy living. This is a wonderful opportunity to interact with families and businesses in our region and we look forward to having your organization/business in attendance. The 4 Life Expo is a chance to offer the personalized service that makes for a memorable shopping experience. Relationships are key for good business.

The Frontenac-Kingston Council on Aging (COA) invites you to participate in their second annual 4 Life Expo designed especially for people ages 45 and above who want to live well and celebrate life. You’ll find it all and more at the 4 Life Expo. A day filled with inspirational speakers, interesting displays and live entertainment.

Frose organizes this event in support of the COA, who for 20 years has helped advocate for and support seniors in our community. Supporting seniors is our number one priority. Every resident must be given the opportunity to actively participate in our commu-nity with health and well-being. No one should be held back or limited because of a age or disability. Funds raised during this expo will go toward enhancing the services and supports we offer in the process of fulfilling our mission to “enhance the quality of life for our community’s seniors.”

Your participation in this event will make a difference to the people that rely on our advocacy and support programs by helping us to expand our publications, our in-office support, and the educational programs and seminars we run in the local community.

Highlights for Ontario - New 2012–2036 projections are for the reference scenario:• Ontario’s population is projected to grow by 28.6 per cent, or almost 3.9 million, over the next 24 years, from an estimated 13.5 million on July 1, 2012 to almost 17.4 million by July 1, 2036.• The number of seniors aged 65 and over is projected to more than double from about 2.0 million, or 14.6 per cent of population, in 2012 to almost 4.2 million, or 24.0 per cent, by 2036. The growth in the share and number of seniors will accelerate over the 2012–2031 period as baby boomers turn age 65. After 2031, the growth in the number of seniors will slow significantly.• The number of Ontarians aged 15–64 is projected to grow from 9.3 million in 2012 to almost 10.5 million by 2036. This age group is projected to decline as a share of total population, falling from 69.1 per cent in 2012 to 60.4 per cent by 2036. As baby boomers turn age 65, the growth in population aged 15-64 will slow down until 2027–28 and then accelerate over the remainder of the projection.• All regions will see a shift to an older age structure. Regions where natural increase and net migration are projected to become or remain negative will see the largest shifts in age structure. The GTA is expected to remain the region with the youngest age structure as a result of strong international migration and positive natural increase.Source: ontario MiniStry of finance - http://www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/econoMy/deMographicS/projectionS/

As a business, it is crucial to understand the aging consumer, and to use marketing that reaches them. The office of Consumer Affairs (OCA) has found that Senior household are spending on average 4.7% more now than they did 5 years ago. With heavy satu-ration of advertising in the media, messages can get filtered out. Consumer tradeshows are an opportunity for businesses to connect directly with customers.

This targeted event is your opportunity to get face-to-face with hundreds of consumers who want to see, sample, touch and buy your product.

As a 4 Life expo exhibitor, you will have concentrated exposure to potential clients and brand support for the expected attendees. There will be a ripple effect promotion through attending consumers, and exhibitors. You will gain heightened public relations as you connect with this target population face-to-face.

Reach people from all over the Kingston region who will come to the show to explore new ways to stay healthy, manage busi-ness, discover new career opportunities, deal with family issues, and connect with others. Our show audience is eager to discover and shop for the latest products and services and place a high value on the relationships they build with exhibitors and company representatives on the show floor. You already play an important role in the community; now let people know all about it at the 4 Life expo – become an exhibitor today!

Most people think that aging is irreversible and we know that there are mechanisms even in the human machinery that allow for the reversal of aging, through correction of diet, through

anti-oxidants, through removal of toxins from the body, through exercise, through yoga and breathing techniques, and through meditation.

(NC)—Thanks to healthier lifestyles, as well as advances in oral and medical care, Canadians can expect to keep most, if not all of their natural teeth as they enter their senior years. But keeping those teeth healthy can be a challenge.

According to the Canadian Health Mea-sures Survey, 53% of adults ages 60 to 79 do not have dental insurance, and the lack of coverage is one of the main reasons why they don’t see a dental professional. Because older adults have specific dental needs, seniors and their caregivers should be aware of the importance of regular dental care.

Bacteria from the mouth can travel and develop into serious infections affecting overall health, specialists say. Many medi-cations can cause dry mouth, a condition that can contribute to cavities and other

oral problems. Seniors also develop more cavities on the roots of their teeth than younger adults. As a result, all older adults should be encouraged to brush natural teeth twice a day with fluoride tooth-paste and clean in between the teeth at least once a day. Dentures (full or partial) should be cleaned and soaked daily and the gums should be brushed and mas-saged, either with a soft toothbrush or with a warm, damp cloth.

Whether you’re at home or in a long-term care residence, good oral hygiene coupled with regular treatments by a dental hy-gienist can help to prevent more serious health problems. Together, you can plan a daily oral care routine that will keep your teeth, and you, healthy for life.

Modular Homes

Submitted by Rubi Sulyma

Remember when a modular home was considered a mobile home? Nothing more than a beefed up travel trailer with the wheels taken off and dropped onto the bed of your home site's foundation. That is no longer the case these days.

Today's modular homes are something to behold. The type of homes that are built to the exacting specifications of our On-tario climate, complete with a beautifully, fully functional kitchen, with cove mould-ings on top of the cabinetry, pot drawers, plenty of lighting and more; the perfect kitchen.

Why stop there, keep walking through your house. Notice the smooth finish ceilings or maybe a tray ceiling, gran-ite topped vanities, glass door showers, low e-argon filled windows with sills,

everything you would expect to have and more in your new home. These homes are built with R50 insulation in the attic, R24 in the walls, 2” x 10” floor joists and 2” x 6” walls and 30 year archi-tectural shingles.

They come complete with a furnace, hot water tank, even a HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilation system). These modular homes are built in a climate controlled factory, built with the home owner's additional specifications which may include grab bars, larger interior doors or wheelchair friendly plans. They can even come with the garage attached.

Homes come in two or more sections, delivered and installed right onto your foundation, where the tradesmen com-plete your home. In less than 10 weeks the keys are handed over and you move into your brand new customized maintenance free modular home. Best of all, even the banks and government recognize these new energy-efficient modular homes by offering mortgages and rebates.
