4 Layers of the atmosphere
• They are the troposphere, stratosphere mesosphere and thermosphere.
Troposphere Layer 1
• Atmospheric layer that we live in
• Short-term weather• Long-term climate• It’s elevation ranges
from 0 to 17 km
Composition of Air
• There are many different types of gases in the atmosphere
• They include nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide and other noble gasses
• Nitrogen is the most abundant - 78%
Stratosphere Layer 2
• This layer contains the ozone layer, which protects us from harmful UV radiation
• 17 km to 48 km
Mesosphere Layer 3
• Meteors burn up when reentering the atmosphere
• It’s elevation ranges from 48 to 100 km
Thermosphere Layer 4
• Highest layer of the atmosphere
• Northern Lights occur here (aurora borealis)
• Temperature in 1000’s of degrees
• It’s height ranges from 100 to 400 km
