4-H FLASHCowley County 4-H News
Exciting things are happening in Cowley County 4-H! As the school year comes to a close, many of us are just beginning to get started with our 4-H projects. May is an important time to make some decisions and consider whether or not we still want to be involved in the projects in which we enrolled, or if we want to add some additional projects. It's also a great time to consider some summer activities in 4-H. Pay careful attention to the May 1 add/drop deadline. If you are not enrolled in a project by this date, you will not be allowed to exhibit in that project at the 2015 Cowley County Fair. Check your ks.4honline account to see what you are enrolled in. This is also where you will go to add or drop projects. Remember, it is your responsibility to find out what projects you are in. Do NOT depend on your Community Leader(s) or the Extension Office to do this for you. After May 1, 2015, the online enrollment system will no longer allow you to add or drop projects. If you want to show a horse in 4-H, you must complete your Horse ID form annually by May 1. Each family has the original ID for its horse(s). Bring in the original to be signed by an Extension Agent by May 1.If you want to show livestock at a state show- Kansas Junior Livestock Show or the Kansas State Fair, you must establish ownership by May 1 (Market Steer/Heifer) or June 15 (Sheep, Swine, Meat Goat, Commercial Breeding Heifer). To do this, complete the nomination process found at http://www.youthlivestock.ksu.edu. You will need the signatures of Extension Staff, so allow yourself plenty of time to get this information completed and sent to Manhattan.4-H Camp is happening June 15-18 at Rock Springs. Kids who have completed 3rd grade up to 7th grade are invited to attend. You do not have to be a 4-H member to go to 4-H Camp, but you do have to register by May 8 in the Extension Office.Project opportunities are being held for Astronomy, Robotics, Sheep Swine, Meat Goat and much more. Be sure to take advantage of the unique hands-on learning that 4-H has to offer!
Cowley County Extension will be closed on May 25, 2015
