Welcome
The 4th International Conference of the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention will be organised in partnership with the Romanian Society of Pneumology (SRP) and hosted in the centre of Bucharest. The European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP) has been active in tobacco control since 1997 and for the last 20 years has been playing an important role in setting and influencing policies at a European and international level. Spearheading ENSP activities and projects are national representatives, organisations, academics, doctors, lawyers, health care professionals, experts and activists who always worked together to fulfil the objectives and mission of ENSP.ENSP is the only truly pan-European network active in tobacco control being the key grassroots organisation in implementing the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO-FCTC) at a European level. This was acknowledged by the WHO-FCTC – Conference of Parties during the session in Uruguay (November 2010) when ENSP received FCTC observer status. It is almost impossible to talk about FCTC in Europe without mentioning the involvement of at least one ENSP member. This united and collective effort is the essence, the heart and soul of the “Network” concept: each link makes the chain stronger; each node adds value to the structure. This added value is not only found in the strength of the partnership but also on a scientific level in everything ENSP does: its core activities, its EU projects but also its scientific journal, “Tobacco Prevention & Cessation”.Tobacco consumption remains the single largest avoidable cause of premature death in Europe, responsible for 700,000 deaths every year, and is the most significant cause of health inequalities. It is an interesting time for our work in tobacco control, as the world recognizes that the most effective policies are those based on scientific studies and solid evidence.During the conference, as you discover and meet special guests and speakers from the International and European academic Institutions, national authorities and well known non-governmental organisations involved in tobacco control at the regional, national and international level, we hope you have the chance to share your experiences and insights pertaining to various facets of tobacco control. On behalf of the ENSP members and Secretariat, we are honored to invite you to our Tobacco Control Conference in Bucharest and would like to thank you for your work and your dedication to tobacco control.
Dr. Francisco Rodriguez LozanoPresident of the ENSP

4th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TOBACCO CONTROL 2019
Dear participants it´s our pleasure to welcome you to the 4th ENSP-SRP International conference on Tobacco Control in Bucharest. During these days, we have again the opportunity to share impressions about the situation of tobacco control from different perspectives and in different countries. As tobacco use is still the main evitable cause of mortality, scientific societies, professional associations, NGO, civil forces and government representatives need to gather forces in order to reduce tobacco epidemic. It is also a unique moment to discuss the new strategies of tobacco industry and the “healthy” tricking new products of the transnational tobacco companies. After these 3 intense days of conference, we are sure that we will go back home with a long list of pending tasks in our mind, in order to persevere in our main objective: to reduce the burden of tobacco in our society. Many progresses have been made, but some new barriers in the last year have to be considered and overcome. Experts from all over the world will give us some clues about how to face the new challenges. On behalf of the SRP, we would like to thank all the people that have made this meeting possible, and of course thank you all for your participation as a key of success. Welcome in Bucharest, a capital which also has many touristic offers for all the participants of this conference.
It is a pleasure to welcome you this year to Bucharest, the capital city of Romania and also the heart of media, culture, and art.The 4th Annual Conference of the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP) in partnership with the Romanian Society of Pneumology (SRP), joining local and global efforts towards the tobacco endgame in Europe, will take place on March 27, 2019 in the heart of Bucharest. The main objective of the conference is to advance the role of science in various aspects of tobacco control and to improve the scientific content of strategies on smoking cessation, prevention and regulation of tobacco products in the European community. Distinguished scientists specializing in tobacco control from all over the world will share their expertise and scientific research regarding the global tobacco epidemic aiming to achieve effective implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD).The goal remains definite… “Tobacco-Free Europe”!
