- Vehicle collisions - traffic snarls and hold ups causing

environmental pollution ,wastage of fuel, man hours etc

- road rage - crime - frustration, tiredness and hypertension - uncertainty in road usage - fall of image of traffic management agencies

• Road Traffic Management not defined

Role and Responsibility of Traffic Police,

overlapping, not defined and not coordinated

District or Federal levels.

Expertise is outsourced to Consultants

Standardized Systems/Specifications of Traffic

Control Device are grossly misunderstood &

violated

Road maintenance and construction authorities violate all

principles of safety management. This makes all road

users vulnerable especially during dark hours.

Drivers are not trained. Driving schools lack the

methodology, tools and systems of training.

Encroachments are galore which have basically eaten up into

pedestrian and cyclist facility making them the most vulnerable lot.

RECOMMENDATIONS

• Investment into Research for Mixed Traffic Conditions for

Developing Countries

• Educating the Political Leaders for creation of political will

• Initiation of Science of Traffic Engineering as a course in

Universities and creation of employment opportunities for

Traffic Engineers.

• Traffic Engineering Centers must be established as is done in

all developed countries.

• Traffic Management needs to be defined along with the Roles and

Responsibility of all related agencies.

• Shift from Consultancies to empowering infrastructure development

• Development of Tools and Systems of Training

– Enforcement

– Driver Training

– Traffic Engineering

– Post Collision Management
