Special Guest Speaker next Sunday for “Year of Faith” Series on the Second Vatican Council

March 10, 4:00 - 5:30 PM in Parish Activity Center

Fr Frederick Cwiekowski is a Sulpician priest who has taught dogmatic theology at St. Patrick's Seminary for the past twenty-two years. He did his doctorate at the Catholic University of Louvain during the Council and studied under pro-fessors of the University who helped write some of the Vatican II documents.

The session will focus on Vatican II's Dogmatic Constitution on the Church (Lumen Gentium). While the text stands in continuity with the Church's past traditions, it also presents significant developments in terms of our present under-standing of Church, developments which challenge us still. Among others, we shall look at the understanding of the Church as the People of God, the dignity and role of all the baptized faithful, the universal call to holiness, hierarchy as service in the Church, and Mary as model and icon of the Church.

MERCY

God is mercy. That seems to be the main message of the reading from Exodus. God has seen the suffering of the Israelites and promises mercy and rescue. From then on, God is to be known as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Paul calls his readers to continue to grow in the faith. The God who rescued Israel also rescues them. As beneficiaries of God’s mercy, Christians must keep on working, doing their part to become ever more trusting and loving people of God.

The Gospel’s second section is a homey story about God’s mercy. Against the advice of the land owner, the vinedresser pleads for mercy—and shows mercy—to allow the poor fig tree yet another year to become productive. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Anointing ~ A Healing Ritual

You are invited to join us for an informative presentation on this Sacrament. There will be time to ask questions and discover why not to wait until the ‘last minute’ to call a priest.

Date & Time: Sat., March 16, 2013, 10:00am - 12:00pm Location: St. Joseph Cupertino, 10110 North DeAnza Blvd, Cupertino, CA 95014

Anointing of the Sick ~ One of the seven sacraments Bap-tized Catholics of all ages who seek recovery in body, mind, and spirit. There may still be a misunderstanding that this Sacrament is solely for those on their death bed, but that is not the case. This Sacrament can offer strength, peace, and courage to endure with grace the sufferings of illness, as well as restoration of health according to God’s will. St. Joseph will be offering Anointing of the Sick follow-ing the presentation in the Church.

Lent is all about change and change is usually not easy. In order to change we have to leave something behind. What is it that the Lord is asking us to leave behind? Are we will-ing to take the risk for the promise made by God? These questions are at the heart of the Lenten journey.

Lenten Practices

Fast Days Ash Wednesday & Good Friday One full meal, two light meals; no eating between meals. Ages 18-60.

Days of Abstinence Ash Wednesday & all Fridays No meat for those over age 14.
