1. 3D PRINTING Lonoke/Prairie County Regional Library System 2. What is 3D Printing? 3. This is not a 3D Printer 4. This is our librarys 3D Printer. Its a Makerbot Replicator Mini. Makerbot is a very popular 3D Printing company. 5. What does it do? 3D printers make a 3 dimensional object from digital data. 6. 3D Printers build objects like a pyramid. It lays down melted plastic layer by layer, bottom to top. 7. The 3D Printer users layers that are TINY. Each layer is barely a millimeter tall! 8. To print objects, the 3d printer melts plastic from small spools called filament. 9. Our filament is called PLA. The PLA is made of sugar derived from field corn and has a semisweet smell (like waffles) when heated. 10. The filament is fed through the top of the machine located here. 11. Filament goes through this part. This is called an extruder. 12. The extruder gets very hot. Almost 400 degrees! This melts the filament and pushes it out of the nozzle at the bottom. 13. Once the final layer is done your object will be finished. 3D Printing is being used in a lot of different ways. 14. How is 3d printing used? 3D Printed bicycles and football cleats 15. 3D Printed casts & prosthetics 16. CHINA Giant 3D Printer builds 10 houses in one day 17. Micro-printing 18. Future of 3D Printing - Space Station 3-D Printer Builds Ratchet Wrench To Complete First Phase Of Operations 12/22/14 It can take months or even years, depending on the launch resupply schedule, to get equipment to space, and for exploration missions, resupply from Earth may be impossible. This technology may change how NASA completes exploration missions and even the way science is conducted on the station. 19. Questions?
