Norma Chu, while attending to a busy career as an educator in New York City for 30 years, volunteered tirelessly for the larger community In addition to molding young minds in preparation for future success, she has worked tirelessly to contribute to the greater community Norma's love for people is reflected in her lifelong contribution to the Chinese-American community As an early member of the Board of Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC), she helped design and manage social programs with a special focus to improve the lives of immigrants Norma worked tirelessly to obtain public and private funds Her chairmanships of CPC numerous gala events are legendary The collective efforts raised millions of dollars She remains an active member of the Cosmo Lions Club, Asian Women United, Pan Pacific Southeastern Asian Women's Association, and many

other organizations that reach out to have a positive impact in our community Her latest venture is helping to manage the Gospel Manor Church Food Pantry program She is currently the honorary chair of UA3, a non-profit organization dedicated to early intervention with digital literacy and bridging the "digital divide", co-founded by her grandchildren Norma's benevolent efforts have been widely recognized Among her numerous recognitions, she is a recipient of the Harriet Tubman Humanitarian Achievement Award and has served on the Commission on the Status of Women Norma was an educator in the NYC school system for 30 years before launching a second career in media She has appeared in numerous independent features including: Law and Order, and The Blacklist She appeared in many print and film commercials such as for Apple, Pfizer, Coach, and New York Lottery Her most recent Apple Iphone X commercial was launched at the 2018 Winter Olympics Norma received her BA from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and was the third Chinese woman in the history of the University to obtain a BA She obtained her Master's Degree at Columbia University She has three children and six grandchildren, all living in New York

David J. Louie, Sr. founded and grew the most successful Chinese American insurance business right from Chinatown in 1976, when Chinese Americans were rare in the insurance industry, to serve communities in New York and beyond. His firm David J. Louie Inc. continues to serve the community after decades as a tremendously admired establishment. Aside from his professional and community contributions, David has also served our country, having enlisted (not drafted) in the U.S. Army in 1969 for 6 years – 3 years active army and 3 years reserves – including service in Vietnam in 1970, and is a well-respected member, leader and staunch supporter of the American Legion Kimlau Post 1291, the post with the

greatest number of Chinese American vets, as well as being national American Legion Sergeant-at-Arms.David's impact on Chinatown is broad, dedicated, and deep. He has been one of the founders of many groups now institutions in the community, as well as having served in leadership roles in many major older and newer organizations.David has been a Board Member for numerous organizations, including: for over 15 years and Past President of the Lions Club of Chinatown (1981); for 15 years and Past Chairman of, the Chinatown Manpower Project; for over 15 years, Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association; for over 20 years and Past Chairman of, Chinese Chamber of Commerce of New York; for over 10 years, Chinatown Day Care Center; for over 10 years, New York Chinese School.David was the Founding Member of several major establishments of the community, including the Chinatown Partnership Local Development Corporation and Chinatown Busines Improvement District (Chinatown B.I.D), for which both he has Chaired, and the Chinese American Insurance Association.David's focus on real, impactful contributions to individuals is seen in what he considers his most proud accomplishments which, aside from his family, are (1) the creation of the Chinatown Partnership and (2) creation of the Chinatown BID and (3) the initiation and passing of the Bicycle Helmet law requiring all business owners using bicycle delivery to provide helmets and safety vests to their employees. Prior to this law, bicycle delivery persons were being hit, permanently disabled and or killed by buses, taxis and trucks on the streets of NYC, with most of the delivery people being Chinese delivering food or Mexicans delivering food or supermarket grocery items, both in the lowest economic laboring levels. David's initiatives have clearly benefited the lives of many in every part of our community.

CACAGNY Distinguished HonoreeRobin Mui

Robin Mui, born in Hong Kong, came to the U.S. to pursue the American Dream with the Mui family in the early 70’s, and has set his roots in New York with the passion to bring overseas Chinese closer together and to help them live better.Robin joined Sing Tao Newspapers New York more than 35 years ago, worked his way up from Production Manager in the 80s, was promoted to the Chief Operating Officer in the year of 2002, and was appointed in 2004 Chief Executive Officer, which he serves as presently. He has also been Chief Executive Officer of Sing Tao Daily (USA) since 2016. Through his distinguished leadership, the media company leads the way in serving the Chinese immigrants, students and many more with prompt news and resources enriching their lives in the U.S East Coasts. Beyond his distinguished professional contributions, Robin volunteered to serve as Auxiliary Police Officer in the New York

Police Department for more than 20 years. He helped the Brooklyn Robbery Squad in solving a lot of cases in the early 90's when there were few Chinese speaking officers. He raised money through the Fraternal Orders of Police to sponsor NYPD personnel to China to open up the dialogue between both countries' police officials to solve international kidnapping cases. Eventually, that put an end to those kidnapping cases, when there had been as many as 20 cases annually in the early 90's.With his well-built network with politicians, government agencies, media, corporate leaders, community entities and the people, Robin always heads out and actively takes parts in the community by pulling as many strings as possible, and carries out until many are benefited and assisted. Through his civic-mind, positive beliefs, and persistence, Robin has devotedly and enthusiastically pioneered and supported countless events and fundraisings to enrich the culture, the welfare and the well-being of the community, from facilitating dissolving conflicts in the community, to backing and organizing various arts, sports and cultural programs for the youth to the seniors, to the charitable works and fundraised for many non-profit organizations and hospitals. He has led programs to help re-establish Chinatown after September 11th, to fundraise for the disasters such as the Tsunamis on coastal areas throughout South Asia in 2004, the Sichuan Earthquake in 2008, the Haiti Earthquake in 2010. He pulled together the Little Italy neighborhood to join forces with the Chinatown community to present the Annual East Meets West Christmas Parade. He led fundraising efforts to help Victor Fong find justice and also worked behind the scene to help PO Peter Liang vindicated of murder charges. Robin’s endless engagements with courage, wholehearted goodwill and determined character give inspiration to immeasurable others.Robin’s work has been recognized with numerous awards and proclamations. He is the President of the Chinese Journalists' Association of New York; the President of the Moy Shee Family Association for seventh termsm for which he is currently the World President; he also serves on advisory committees for various community organizations and advocacies. Robin resides in New York City, and is the CEO of Sing Tao Daily Newspaper for the U.S.A. Eastern Editions, which oversees its publications for New York Tri-State, Boston, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Chicago. He was promoted to CEO of the Sing Tao Daily (USA) two years ago.

of New Yorkers in the Flushing Chinatown parade at the beginning of the year.

AdvocatingAiming for year-end passage and signing of the Bill for the US Congressional

Gold Medal for Chinese American World War II Vets, CACAGNYorganized a campaign for Stuyvesant High School students to phone

New York State Congressmembers to co-sponsor HR 2358 to honor the vets.

CACAGNY Service Recognition AwardCACAGNY is grateful for the hard work of community members who toil, sometimes for years, on projects that affect the daily lives of their neighbors, without any thought of recognition. Whether fighting for better schools or access to them, protecting the Specialized High Schools, or protesting improper dumping of crime-ridden shelters on unequipped neighborhoods, they work tirelessly, bravely and with commitment for their community. We recognize with great appreciation CACAGNY members Vito LaBella and Linda Lam, as well as the Christa McAuliffe PTO, which includes CACAGNY members, for their great service to our communities. They join last year's recipients Phil Wong, Charles Vavruska, and Elmhurst United. Phil Wong and Charles Vavruska are recognized this year for their continuing exemplary service.

C.A.C.A. Detective Wenjian LiuMemorial Law Enforcement Scholarship

The Chinese American Citizens Alliance Community Involvement Fund will fund the second Detective Wenjian Liu Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship in honor of the Chinese American policeman slain in December 2014 while protecting and serving as one of New York City’s finest. C.A.C.A. members from as far away as California and Oregon, led by President Ed Gor from Texas, were moved by the death of Det. Wenjian Liu three years ago in New York. Det. Wenjian Liu was from Toishan (Taishan) of Guangdong, a place many Chinese Americans call ancestral home; nearly all the early Chinese immigrants to the U.S. came from that one county. Our President Gor, also of Toishan County, reached out to our C.A.C.A. members to honor Liu with a living memorial to make a real, lasting impact to improve the future of our communities. Our

members responded immediately and contributed funds to establish a scholarship to be named in honor of Det. Wenjian Liu and to support other Chinese-Americans who hope to serve their community by police work. We are pleased to present our second Detective Wenjian Liu Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarships of $1,000 each award to two New Yorkers who aspire to become police officers: current John Jay College sophomore Bida Chen and junior Kenny Liu. They join last year's recipients Harrison Yuan and Peng Zhang.

organization that is committed to making a difference for the Chinese American community in

Founded in 1895 in San Francisco, Chinese American Citizens Alliance of Greater New York is
