did you know that the word "client" had themeaning "comrade" or "mate" in Old Eng-lish? Only later on it changed to "buyer".But the central point stayed: One mainlydid business with persons with whom onewas acquainted.

Today in the age of globalisation and inter-net, things have changed. People can becontacted everywhere at any time to dobusiness. Of course, it is very convenient tocommunicate via email and to send ur-gently needed data with a simple mouseclick to the other end of the world. Butoften enough one realises at this precisemoment that one doesn't even know theaddressee. People, however, prefer to dis-cuss important subjects with persons thatthey know rather than with strangers. Alsoat Güntner, we are aware of this fact. It is somuch easier to correspond with personswhose name you know and who you mighteven have already met. Personal contact

and direct communication are important tous, especially on a local level, for we knowfrom experience how much more conve-nient it is to communicate in a familiar en-vironment and in one's mother tongue. This is also the reason why we think that itis so important to be locally present for ourcustomers. We are proud that our sales re-presentatives are now available for our cus-tomers in 35 countries. We will develop oursales network further, because our aim isto keep the personal contact with our cus-tomers.

In a continually changing environment thatis increasingly demanding when it comesto flexibility and ability of development, it isreconforting to know that the own persona-lity and values like continuity and reliabilitydo not loose their meaning and importance.

More the 30,000 people from 1,100Munich-based companies and publicauthorities participated on July 24, 2008.The weather was ideal for running: with aslightly cloudy sky and a perfect tempera-ture even the most ambitious amateurathletes were satisfied.

Several thousand spectators supportedthe runners and created a great atmo-sphere. Due to the large number of parti-cipants, it took more than an hour untilthe last runner could get on the track.Being part of the run and having fun wasmore important than being among firstrunners reaching the goal: also this yearteams stood out with imaginative costu-mes with blue wigs, funny slogans on Tshirts or artistic interludes like jugglingwhile walking. Everyone participating su-rely worked up a good sweat, but theentry into the Olympic stadium through

the large marathon gate made up for thisand helped to mobilise the last reserves. With more than a thousand enthusiasticspectators every participant could savourfeeling like a professional athlete whenreaching the stadium.

Also this year the Güntner companywouldn't miss the chance of participatingat the "Maxi Firmenlauf", especially sincethe company has taken part every yearsince it first took place in 2004. The 15Güntner employees, and among themone apprentice, waited eagerly for thestarting signal and did their best. Some

Güntner participants even topped theirprevious time records. But most of all, theenthusiastic atmosphere of the event andits smooth organisation will be remembe-red: An impressive event that the partici-pants will still remember for a long time. And surely many of this year's partici-pants will also take part in the businessrun 2009.

1. Presetting of energyefficiency class

For designing the units, the energy effi-ciency class can be predetermined. Thesimplifies the selection and saves time.During the design of the units, only theunits with corresponding or better effi-ciency class are indicated. For air-cooled drycoolers and condensersthe energy efficiency classes are definedaccording to Eurovent as follows:

2. New functions in the defaultsetting dialogue

At the initial start and after an update ofthe Güntner Product Calculator GPC, thedefault setting dialogue opens. Here theuser language can be set. You can deter-mine in which language the user interfaceshall be shown. Of course, you still havethe option to set the languages indepen-dently for the design and the text outputof the data.

It is also possible to select German asuser interface language, but to read outthe data of the designed unit for the cus-tomer in French or in another of 14 avai-lable languages.

Another new feature is the presetting ofthe desired fan frequency. From now on, it is possible to determinethat certain frequencies are indicated inthe default setting dialogue. Up to now, units with 50 Hz and 60 Hz were shown;with the new function it is possible to de-termine already in the default settings ifonly units with a frequency of 50 Hz, witha frequency of 60 Hz or both shall be in-dicated.

New Güntner Info brochures

The successful evaporator family GDF hasbeen completely revised. For a better dif-ferentiation, the product family has beensplit up into the series GDF.1 (HFC),GGDF.1 (brine) and CXGDF.1 (CO2, DX (di-rect expansion)).

The former series GDFmini (extra slim-line) is now an independent unit seriesand is called GDM.1.

For revising the series, the customer re-quirements have been determinedthrough product monitoring. The achie-ved insights have been respected andwere used for the redevelopment of theunits. The newly implemented changesimprove the practical handling of theunits.

Simple installation

All slimline unit coolers can be mountedeasily and quickly. They can be mountedvery close to the ceiling and thus do notoccupy precious storage room. The casingcan be opened very easily and the sidecovering can be removed with a flick ofthe wirst for the tube installation.

38_0423_heatX_13aus_e_003rz:Layout 1 10.10.2008 14:44 Uhr Seite 6

Save operating costs

Compared to conventional AC motor fans, the efficiency of EC motor fans is higher.Additionally the EC fans can also be ope-rated at low speed and consequently inpart load operation. The fan speed can bechanged and therefore the performancecan easily be adapted to the current re-quirements. These caracteristics reducethe current consumption of the fans con-siderably (up to 50 %).

Low noise

The GDF product family has a very lownoise design due to the EC motor fans. Ifthe sound pressure level has to be redu-ced further, this can be achieved by usingthe speed changing function describedabove.

Simple to clean

All series of the GDF family are equippedwith an especially innovative casing con-struction. The complete drip tray con-struction including the heating sheet canbe folded down very easily. No tools arenecessary for this. The technician savesprecious working time and there are no fi-xing elements that can get lost.

Suitable for low temperatureapplications

The GDF.1 is suitable for low temperatureapplications (down to –25 °C) and can beordered with a fin spacing of 7 mm. Spe-cial designs for even lower temperaturesare available on request.

Optimum utilisation of coldroom

Due to the slimline unit construction andthe large performance spectre of this pro-duct family, the cold room can be opti-mally utilised.

Short delivery times

The series GDF.1 and GDM.1 are storagetype units. These series can be deliveredfrom stock in a few work days. When de-signing the evaporators with the GüntnerProduct Calculator GPC, the units in stockare indicated as such. The delivery timescan be downloaded during the softwareupdate via internet.

The Güntner condenser GVX withmicroox® technology is a breakthrough inheat exchange technology with a newlyconceived condenser system. This innova-tive product will be presented to the pu-blic for the first time at the Chillventa.

In two years of systematic developmentwork, Güntner adapted the micro-channeltechnology already existing in the auto-motive sector to the requirements of sta-tionary refrigerating engineering. The biggest challenges were: achievingthe required large performances with thecorresponding coil sizes, adapting theunits to different ranges of applicationand considering the pressure in the refri-gerant-carrying tubes. Güntner combinesseveral benefits all in one unitwith this new technology:

Advantage of the materialaluminium

The condenser GVX is completely madeof aluminium. Consequently the unit isprotected from galvanic corrosion. Thecondenser is extremely light-weight dueto the material aluminium and the smal-ler heat exchanger coil.

Reduced refrigerant charge

The refrigerant charge is considerably re-duced due to the new heat exchangertechnology. As a result, less leak tests arenecessary and operating and mainten-ance costs are reduced.

More performance on lesssetting-up area

Compared to conventional units with thesame setting up area, the GVX withmicroox® technology has an up to 15 %higher power density.

Easy installation

Due to the new mounting concept, theGVX can be mounted extremely quicklyand easily. The modular system is easilyextendable and can therefore simply beupgraded for a higher demand in conden-sing performance.

Functional design

The unit's functional design allows for aperfect integration into a variety of appli-cations – and of course it is available ondemand in every RAL colour.

Intelligent system with GMM

If you choose to use the EC fans in combi-nation with the new Güntner Motor Ma-nagement GMM, you receive an intelligentsystem: by precisely controlling the mini-mum condensing temperature, this sys-tem helps to improve the energyefficiency of the plant and consequentlyto reduce the operating costs.

These controllers and control panels areprecisely adapted to the Güntner unitsand are a very important part of the Günt-ner heat exchanger systems. Customisedunit developments for improving heat dis-sipation enhance the economic efficiencyof the refrigerating plant.

The now available Güntner Motor Ma-nagement GMM has been developedespecially for heat exchangers with ECfans to achieve high efficiency heat ex-changer systems.

You only fully benefit of the system's ad-vantages if you combine the Güntner heatexchanger with the Güntner Motor Ma-nagement GMM for EC fans. The control-ler regulates the fan speed depending onthe pressure or the temperature, controlsprocesses and provides more safety andtransparency for an improved plant ope-ration.

Your advantages at a glance:

Cost saving

The simple setting of the controller andthe automatic EC fan management re-duce commissioning time considerably.

Energy saving

All control functions are adapted to theheat exchanger; energy costs are reduced

due to the efficient condensing pressurecontrol and the use of EC technology.

Fan parameter setting

The parameters of the fan(s) are automa-tically set by the controller. No hardware, software or special knowledge is requiredfor this. This applies also if fans have tobe exchanged.

Operational safety

The GMM controller creates more stablepressure ratios in the refrigerating cycleand consequently enhances the operatio-nal safety of the plant. The operationalsafety is ensured by the permanent moni-toring of the components that are impor-tant for a smooth plant operation. In caseof operating failure, the system changesautomatically to an emergency operationmode that has been previously defined bythe operator.

Simple operation

The plain text display creates more trans-parency and provides operating informa-tion (e.g. operating, maintenance and faultmessages) for an optimum plant opera-tion.

The Güntner GVX with microox® techno-logy is a breakthrough in heat exchangetechnology: It is a completely new con-denser system that has been developedaccording to the current market require-ments. The heat exchanger and the ca-sing are completely made of aluminium.Güntner adapted the existing micro-chan-nel technology used in the automotive in-dustry to the requirements of thestationary refrigerating plants and has op-timised it for the use in refrigerating ap-plications. The company decided toproduce the unit in its own plant so asnot to depend on purchased parts. Thisensures that the units satisfy the high re-quirements of Güntner and its customersat all times.

New manufacturing procedure

A new assembly line had to be created, because the new manufacturing proce-dure differs from the conventional proce-dure.It was decided to extend the manufactu-ring plant in Tata, Hungary, to ensure thatthe capacity required for the manufactu-ring of the components is always availa-ble.

The manufacturing line will be set up in acompletely new hall that corresponds tothe latest technical standards. The newunits will be entirely manufactured in thishall: entering as raw material and leavingthe assembly line as finished component.Additionally a well-conceived logistics sys-tem will ensure that the units are built toorder and that precise delivery times areobserved.

Manufacturing will start in spring 2009inaugurating a new era in heat exchangetechnology.

Water is the elixir of life and essential forour health. Polluted drinking water crea-tes and spreads illness. These are factsare generally known, but neverthelessoften disregarded. Often the resourcewater is treated carelessly.

As a clearly defined mission, the mindfuluse of natural resources is deeply rootedin the corporate philosophy of the Günt-ner Group. At the manufacturing plant ofGüntner Indonesia the responsible use ofwater is very important: Already in 2005,a wastewater treatment plant was built topurge toxic substances that can result du-ring the manufacturing process. In thisplant all wastewater is treated that resultsfrom the manufacturing process, after thisthe treated water can be conducted to thesewer system.

According to the kind and the extent ofthe pollution, there are different processesfor wastewater treatment. The protectionof the clean water, where the treated was-tewater is conducted later on, is of centralimportance. Furthermore operational pro-cesses can be optimised by using thetreated water again in the manufacturingprocess. This way operating costs are re-duced and, in processes where water is

needed, undesired chemical reactionsdue to impurities in the water can be pre-vented. With a corresponding water treat-ment, an important amount of industrialsewage can be reused. This provides athreefold cost advantage: Costs for waterconsumption are reduced; in total lesswasterwater is produced, consequentlythe wastewater charges are lower; theenergy costs can be reduced due to heatrecovery processes during wastewatertreatment.

When treating industrial sewage it is firstof all important to filter the water for re-moving the dissolved substances and thesuspended matter. For this purpose phy-sical, chemical and biological process areused. In the wastewater treatment plant inIndonesia, in a first step oily substancesare separated and suspended matter isfiltered. Then the dissolved substances inthe water are flocculated through chemi-cal processes. After this, the first clarifica-tion and purification is achieved with asandfilter. After a second clarification se-quence with activated carbon, the water isconducted into a fish pond that acts asbioindicator. Only then the purified wateris led into the sewer system if it is notbeing reused for in-plant purposes.

This is an excellent example that provesthat protecting the environment contribu-tes to the company's economic efficiency!

Sustainability in meat production: thismeans that the production of pork specia-lities is not restricted to selecting high-quality meat and to process it accordingto the best receipes. This concept alreadystarts with the animal feed productionand ensures that high-quality standardsare observed at every production step: bytaking measures for protecting the envi-ronment, like water management, byusing meat from selected breeding stocksand by working with quality consciouscontractors. The meat processing plant in La Roche-toirin, situated north of Grenoble in theregion Rhône-Alpes, was to be expandedwith an additional cutting room. The com-pany AXIMA was commissioned to pro-vide the refrigerating equipment. Thework on site was monitored the by engi-neering company Amiot Froid Conseil andamounted to a total of 1.5 million euros. The newly equipped cutting room startedoperating September 2007 and has a re-frigerating capacity of 1,310 kW.The units for refrigeration and coolingprovided by AXIMA shall improve the airquality in the workrooms, processing, cut-ting and storage rooms and save energyat the same time.

AXIMA has provided refrigera-tion equipment for four diffe-rent installations:

- two installations for refrigeration, with arefrigeration capacity of 1200 kW, withammonia as refrigerant and glycol ascoolant (cooling from -4 to -8 °C).Purpose: Cooling and maintaining thetemperature fora) workrooms between +1 and +4 °C,

cutting rooms +1 °Cb) cold rooms between +1 and +8 °C

- one installation with 35 kW for twoblast freezing rows that cool the meatto -20 °C, so that a crust is formed onthe pieces to prevent evaporation andmass loss. In this installation, R404a isused as refrigerant.

- an installation with a capacity of 75 kWwith the refrigerant R404a that cools afreezing tunnel and a cold store(-25 °C).

All heat exchangers have been providedby Güntner. This includes all evaporators in theworkrooms and cold stores that weremounted in AXIMA casings and equippedwith G4 and F8 filters for eliminating mi-croorganisms. The air-cooled condensersand drycoolers were also furnished byGüntner.

The basic concept of the company "Russ-kij holod" (Russian cold) was to produceice cream from natural, traditional Rus-sian raw materials. In the 1990's mainlynon-Russian products dominated themarket. This led to the decision - after athorough market analysis in 1999 - tofound a local company for producing andselling ice cream.

One competitive advantage was that atthat time many Western European com-panies glutted the Russian market withlow-quality ice cream containing a largeamount of artificial flavours and colou-rants.A lot of Russian companies followed theexample of producing ice cream with arti-ficial ingredients, even though high-qua-lity ice cream has always been very muchappreciated in Russia. From the very be-ginning, Russkij holod, however, focussedon using natural and high-quality ingre-dients for the production. This approachis also reflected in its choice of refrigera-ting equipment.

The manufacturing plant started opera-ting in spring 2006 and has a productioncapacity of 4,000 t/month. More than150 different kinds of ice cream are pro-

duced and sold not only in Russia, butalso in the EC, Israel and the USA. Approx.90 % of the overall production is directlydelivered to the stores.

Russkij holod is very demanding when itcomes to its products and this appliesalso to the plant's technical equipment.Great importance was attached to equip-ping the manufacturing plant with state-of-the-art devices. For the refrigerationand cooling equipment, high-qualityGüntner products were selected. The loa-ding ramps are equipped with dual disch-arge unit coolers of the series DHN to

Russkij holod produces over 150 dif-

ferent kinds of ice cream in two ma-

nufacturing plants. In September

2004, the company received the EC

certificate and can consequently ex-

Community. Russkij holod is the only

company in Russia with the permis-

sion to sell its products in the USA (in

May 2006, a licence was granted by

the certification commission of the

Of course, Moscow's best neighbourhoodsare preferred. Finding a prime addresseswith excellent local and communicationinfrastructure is one of the main stages inthe process of establishing a new branchoffice. For this step, the support of local compa-nies specialised in development projectslike the Romanov Development Group iscrucial.

The company headquarters are located inthe “Romanov dvor” office building, mostsignificant project realized by the “Ro-manov Development Group”. The literaltranslation of Romanov dvor is "court ofthe Romanovs" and refers to the estate ofthe Romanov tsar family that was locatedat this place in the 17th century. The

name shows the proximity to the centreof powers, the Kremlin. The building loca-ted near the Romanov Pereulok is only500 m from the Red Square and one ofthe most prestigious addresses in town. With a surface of 50,000 m2, the buildingoffers enough space for its tenants, lea-ding multinational companies and banks, that attach great importance to highestcomfort and value the building's pleasantatmosphere with an atrium, winter gar-den, spacious front staircase, view liftsand underground parking. Of course, thebuilding is equipped with modern buil-ding engineering for air conditioning andcentral heating.

The required air-conditioning installationswere realised in several sequences by two

Components for different cooling ap-plications were required for the ma-nufacturing plant: For the loadingramps dual discharge unit coolers ofthe series DHN were implemented. In the two lines for ice cream harde-ning, special units of the blast freezerseries GFN were installed, and for anoptimum room utilisation, the coldstores (-18 °C for fruit ice cream,-21 °C for dairy ice cream) wereequipped with special slimline unitcoolers of the series GHN.

The plant is located in an industrial zone,in consequence no special noise re-duction regulations had to be observedfor the installation of the condensers anddrycoolers. The heat exchangers includingthe receivers were installed on the roofand beside the factory building and en-sure reliable cooling. Thus it is guaranteedthat the high quality of the delicious icecream is preserved until it reaches thecustomer.

contractors. The first installation withGüntner drycoolers and an overall refrige-rating capacity of 1490 kW was designedand implemented by the contractor Trane. For server room cooling, units of the se-ries GFH were selected. Drycoolers of theseries GFD were installed for air-conditio-ning the seven storey building. Theseunits operate with ethylene glycol and areequipped with aluminium fins and coppertubes for safe and reliable cooling.

It was possible to install the units on theroof, because the units have such a lownoise level that the noise control regulati-ons can be observed even at night. Due tothe architecture of the building, the instal-lation of the units on the roof was quite atechnical challenge. A special crane wasnecessary to lift the units to the roof, be-cause the building is located in an area ofhigh housing density.

Last year, an additional server room wascreated. For equipping the server roomwith cooling installations, the companyArtek selected two Güntner drycoolers ofthe series GFW with an overall refrigera-ting capacity of 580 kW. Also in this casethe installation was carried out smoothlywith the necessary technical support.

Supporting children in needFor a good cause – supporting the SOS Children's Vil-lage in Diessen, Germany

changeXheat

Success always implies responsibility, be-cause especially economic success oftendoes not trickle down to the less fortunateof a society. The Güntner company strivesto fulfill its reponsibility towards the so-ciety and to give active support. For thisreason, the General Management has de-cided to get involved locally and to sup-port a good cause, namely the SOSChildren's Village in Diessen, Germany.

For most people the SOS Children's Vil-lage association, founded in 1955 by Her-mann Gmeiner in Munich, is a network oforphanages, but the idea of the SOS Chil-dren's Villages goes much further. Duringa visit at the SOS Children's Village inDiessen, the first of its kind in Germany,Erich Schöpflin, in charge of the village, explained the concept of the SOS Chil-dren's Villages to Bernd Gantner, GeneralManager of Güntner, and Dirk Obländer,Güntner Sales Director.

Hermann Gmeiner's idea was to give allchildren in need a home and a family, and this implied not only orphans, butalso children from broken families. Todaythere are no orphans in the SOS Chil-dren's Villages, but exclusively boys andgirls that cannot grow up with their biolo-

gical parents for different reasons. Boysand girls of different ages grow up toget-her as siblings in a stable family-basedenvironment with their SOS mother/pa-rent.

Especially in the Children's Village in Dies-sen it is a pleasure to see how well thisconcept works. The village is an integralpart of the community, the children visitthe public schools nearby and can stay intheir SOS family until they have accom-plished their professional education.Mostly they stay in contact with their sib-lings and their SOS parents even after ha-ving left the village. During the visit,Christine Czermak, SOS mother and spo-kesperson of SOS mothers in Germany, told about adults having grown up in SOSChildren's Villages that like to return totheir SOS village and also get involvedpersonally. Many of them support the vil-lages regularly, they provide up to 40 %of the funds, thus enabling necessary re-pairs and renovations. A rewarding invest-ment that helps to create an environmentwhere children can grow up in safety andlearn to stand on their own two feet.

The Güntner summer party is an integralpart of the company's event calendar:every year, shortly before the summer ho-lidays start in the Bavarian schools, theGüntner company management invitesthe Güntner employees and their familiesto celebrate a large summer party. Espe-cially for new employees this is a greatopportunity to get to know the colleaguesin a relaxed atmosphere outside of work,to discuss and to tie new contacts. Withalmost 700 guests at this year's summerparty a new record attendance was achie-ved. Due to the unsettled weather, a tentwas set up this year next to the factorybuilding. As the year before, the firstguests arrived with their families alreadyin the afternoon to enjoy the coffee andcake. Of course the children wouldn't sitstill for long and were quickly tempted toexplore all the attractions that have beenespecially set up for them.

They soon all found their most favouritepasttime: The smallest guests preferredthe choo choo train. The little ones wentround and round and had a lot of fun. Itwas hard to convince them to try outother attractions like the bouncy castle. This attraction was also very popular, just

like the goal wall shooting and the humansoccer that also appealed to the adults.Soon teams were formed that competedin an improvised match.

Later on everybody returned to thefactory building where Jan Danger, Gene-ral Manager, held the address of welcome.Mr. Danger welcomed all the guests andemphasized that especially this yearmany international guests from Güntnermanufacturing plants and Güntner salesoffices were present. Mr. Danger thankedthe organising team and wished everyonea pleasent evening before declaring thebuffet open.

As every year, the buffet offered a largevariety of food for every taste. Besides acopious offer with various Bavarian spe-cialities, there were also many different

booths with international delicacies. Fordessert, the ice cream van offered organicice cream in many different flavours. At 6 p.m. the live band started playingand stirred up the audience. Around 10p.m. the guests went out into the open toenjoy the traditional firework. Mr. Wacker-bauer, the company's pyrotechnician, excelled with his show and appreciatedthe spontaneous and enthusiasticapplause of the audience very much thatshowed that this year's summer party wasa real success.
