Southport Springs Book Club

The next meeting of the Southport Springs Book Club

will be held on Sunday, July 21st. at 7:00 p.m. in the

Little Club. We will discuss our book of the month –

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie

4th of July BBQ Come celebrate the 4th of July with us. We

will be serving hamburgers & hotdogs starting at 5pm

and fireworks at dark. Tickets are on sale in the

community office for $5. Wristband will be sold at

the door for beer and wine for $5.

Live Entertainment Southport Springs Presents Cyndi Burger. A one girl

Band on Aug. 3rd from 7pm-10pm. Tickets will be

on sale July 10th in the community office for $5.

Reserved seating. She plays 50’s & 60’s/

Country/70’s & 80’s Classic Rock, Motown

Rhythm & Blues, and Pop Standards.

On Saturday, July 13th , we will have

a mini quilt retreat and crafting day

in the clubhouse ballroom, from 9:00

am to 3pm. Please bring your sewing

machine or craft supplies and project to work on.

There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board.

Those who have attended in the past just enjoy

seeing what others are working on and sometimes

they get inspired to try something new. This is not

a class but we always learn something from each

other. You don’t have to stay the whole time, just

whatever fits into your schedule. If you have any

Quilting / Crafting Day

It looks like it is going to be a long HOT

summer, so let’s get together and make the

most of it. Everyone is invited to join us at

the Clubhouse on Saturday, July 20th at 5:30

PM for a Pizza Party. The cost is $2.00 per person.

Please sign up on the sheet posted on the bulletin

board. That will give us some idea of how much pizza

to order. We will also have salads and dessert.

Please come and enjoy a social evening with your

neighbors and friends. You can call Barbara

Thank You Thank you to the Sunshine Committee for the gift card

and well wishes; to the best neighbors a guy could ask

for and for all the cards, players, phone calls and visits

from my friends at Southport Springs. The were greatly

appreciated. A special thank you to Al Viner and his

grandson, Trey, for mowing my lawn every week

We had to travel to Mpls., MN. to see my Mom

(90) who was in intensive care for jaw surgery and

succeeded. I would like to thank Phyllis Klenert

for taking care of KC, etc. Thanks also for our

friends who offered to be back-up if

necessary. Also a special "thanks" to Dave &

Shirley Reynolds for there unconditional support

and taking care of our babies (Kiki & Koko) and

especially thanks for your support and love to our

other baby (also yours) Korky. Friends like you are

a special gift in this world. Heartfelt thanks from

Curt & Melody Ostvolen.

A big “Thank You” goes out to all who took the

time to send me a card or give me a phone call,

wishing me a quick recovery after my arthroscopic

knee surgery on June 4th. Another “Thank You”

has to go out to Carla Evans, who on behalf of the

Sunshine Committee delivered to me a much

appreciated gift card from Five Guys. Love those

Managers Notes Golf Carts & Children: This is

the time of year when we get a lot

of visitors. Please remember

children are NOT allowed to drive

golf carts. Do not let them stand on

the back. This is very dangerous

and we do not want to see anyone

get hurt. Thank you and lets all

have a happy and safe summer.

Speed Limit: Just a reminder our

Speed Limit is 15 MPH. There are

still too many people speeding in

our community. Our roads are very

busy this time of the year with the

golf carts, walkers and bike riders.

PLEASE SLOW DOWN.

Email List: We are getting a lot of

interest in the email list. We

thought it would be a good way to

get the word out if something

comes up last minute. If you are

interested please call or stop by the

office and let us know. We are now

using the Email list and it is a nice

way to get word out quickly.

Swimming: This is the time of year

we have a lot of visitors. The pool

is for residents and over night guest

only. If you have guests who would

like to use the pool without you

please make sure they have your

pool pass. If you have children

under the age of 18 visiting make

sure there is an adult with them. If

you need a new pass see Jessica in

the office.

Golf Association The Schedule for the aerations has changed, the

next aeration of the greens is now scheduled for

July 14th. The greens and tee boxes were rolled in

early June using a 3 ton roller hoping these areas

out.

Anyone watching the U.S. Open should have

noticed the USGA’s new program to speed play

should remember “While we’re young” and the

high profile video’s. Pace of play is a big issue.

Rounds of golf take too long, and no one enjoys it.

This campaign is lighthearted, but it also shows

that we need to pick up the pace of the play. It

should not take over 4 hours to play 18 holes on

this course.

I have been asked by the caddy shack to mention

that ALL of the par three’s are cart path only,

especially hole three. Don’t forget the 90 degree

rule.

Any members wanting to volunteer to ranger,

leave your name in the caddy shack.
