35 TORONTO AREA GRADUATES READY FOR A CAREER IN COLLISION REPAIR May 25, 2011 Graduates of the Centennial College Autobody techniques program have just graduated and are eager to show employers in the autobody, collision repair and auto refinishing industries, how they can help in repairing vehicles in your shop. The 35 graduating students are just finished their techniques program, a longer program than offered in initial apprenticeship and have paid for their training themselves. Many employers feel that this makes these graduates more motivated to find a good job in the industry and prove what they can do. A number of grants and incentives are available including tax credits of up to $2000 upon hiring and a $10,000 apprenticeship tax credit when hiring any of these graduates as apprentices. Each apprentice would also qualify for an $800 tool loan. Graduates of the Centennial College Autobody techniques program have just graduated and are

eager to show employers in the autobody, collision repair and auto refinishing industries, how

they can help in repairing vehicles in your shop.

The 35 graduating students are just finished their techniques program, a longer program than

offered in initial apprenticeship and have paid for their training themselves. Many employers

feel that this makes these graduates more motivated to find a good job in the industry and prove

what they can do.

A number of grants and incentives are available including tax credits of up to $2000 upon hiring

and a $10,000 apprenticeship tax credit when hiring any of these graduates as apprentices. Each

Program For the Employer How much $ Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit

Up to $2000/year for first 2 years of an apprenticeship Up to $2000.00

Apprenticeship Employer Signing Bonus (AESB)

For Employers who hire, register and train apprentices according to Employment Ontario Employment Services Job Matching, Placements & Incentives program

$2000 Total (2 payments of $1000)

Apprenticeship Training Tax Credit

Taxable tax credit: employers can receive 35%-45% of apprentice’s wages, benefits, etc. up to $10,000/year for first 4 years of the apprenticeship

Up to $40,000.00

Co-operative Education Tax Credit

A refundable tax credit available to employers operating unincorporated businesses who hire students enrolled in university/college co-operative education

$3000.00 max per student per work term

Employment Ontario Employment Services

Training Incentive dependent upon duration of apprenticeship placement and complexity of training

$6000 max.

OYAP: Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program

Employers can have students as an apprentice while they are still in high school (as early as Grade 11). OYAP students are exempt from ratio while on placement

Summer Job Service Employers can hire students for the summer (must be returning to school in Sept.) – possible $2.00/hr wage subsidy

Tradesperson Tool Deduction

Apprentices and Journeypersons can write off ½ of their yearly tool purchases which total up to $1000 (write off up to $500.00)

Taxable cash grant received after completing Level 1 and 2 schooling block of red seal trades.

Apprenticeship Completion Grant

Taxable cash grant received after completing an apprenticeship (Separate grants for red seal and non-red seal trades)

Apprenticeship Scholarship Participant requires educational upgrading for an apprenticeship, completes this necessary upgrading, hired by an employer and registered as an apprentice –within 1 year.

$1000.00 (2 payments of $500 each)

Employment Ontario Employment Services

Services include job search assistance. Apprentices may receive assistance connecting with employers.

OYAP: Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program

Can be signed as an apprentice while still in high school (as early as Grade 11). MTCU pays the $40.00 registration fee.

Free Registration

Summer Job Service Students can connect with employers looking to hire a student for the summer (must be returning to school in Sept.)

Tools: Loan For Tools Interest-free loan for tools. Interest starts up once the apprentice passes journeyperson exam or leaves trade early.
