ABOUT US

The National Association of Social Workers : NYC Chapter awarded Womankind the Social Work Image Award in

Direct Practice for our model of practice, Moving Ahead Positively (MAP).

My husband abused me for years, but it wasn’t until I realized he was sexually abusing our two-year old daughter that I took action. We moved into Womankind’s emergency residence and their advocate worked with my daughter through art and play. Such a blessing. They helped my daughter get through this difficult period and provided childcare so that I could find work —all to support our safe transition to our own home. —Diana

After I sustained serious injuries from my husband that required surgery, I relied on a Womankind advocate who spoke my language to explain my options. She helped me obtain a full order of protection against my husband and apply for public assistance. With Womankind by my side, I resumed my job and began working again. Thankfully, I overcame my fears. —Jennifer
