The C 12 VR is a perfect reincarnation of the legendaryC 12 microphone including its famous “voice-friendly” sound. Trueto the original design, the mic uses the same 6072A dual-triodetube, hand-selected for the lowest noise and optimum sonic charac-teristics. The sound of the C 12 VR can be described as theperfect blend of warmth, clarity and presence. TheC 12 VR comes complete with windscreen, all-metal shock-mount,power supply/remote control unit, connecting cable and individually-measured response graphs.

The AKG SolidTube was the first moderately-priced high-per-formance cardioid tube microphone. Characterized by velvety-smooth sound with gorgeous, liquid mids, the SolidTubewill warm up the sterile sound of digital recording. Features includeswitchable 20 dB pad and a 12 dB-per-octave/100 Hzbass roll-off filter. With its elegant styling, high SPL capability,low self noise, and incredibly solid build quality, the SolidTube is agreat value in a high-performance tube microphone.

C 426 B COMB STEREO MICROPHONE

Two gold-sputtered dual-diaphragms are arranged in a coincidentpair. The microphone head can be rotated 45 degreesagainst the shaft and the upper capsule rotated 270degrees against the lower to facilitate quick changeoversbetween M/S and X/Y techniques. Two LEDs mounted oneach rotating capsule provide quick visual verification of the capsuleangle from a distance. Switches on the microphone shaft select abass cut and 10-dB preattenuation pad.

The remote control supplied allows completely noiselessselection among the nine polar patterns available for eachcapsule. The C 426 B comb comes complete with a shockmount/stand adapter, foam windscreen, 66 ft. (20 m26) connect-ing cable, sturdy carrying case and remote control.

With the introduction of the “NeXt Generation” C 414 B-XLmodels, AKG sets new benchmarks for useful features, improved tech-nical specifications, ease of use and available accessories. All of theseimprovements are answers to requests from ever-demanding recordingstudios, broadcast stations and concert engineers, but with thebasic sonic character of the legendary C 414 unaltered. Itis the microphone of choice for miking up vocals, grand pianos, percus-sions, and other sound sources with complex waveforms. Five select-able polar patterns allow the microphone to be used for everyrecording technique and three bass cut filters suppress low-freqen-cy noise. Extremely low self noise and high headroom result in adynamic range of 134 dB – wider than that of digital recordingequipement.

C 414 B-XL II

AKG combined the best of classic and present-day technologies,the legendary C 12 transducer capsule and advancedtransformerless FET circuitry. The -XL II version differsfrom the -XLS in one major respect: The transducer provides asimilar sound as the popular C 12. Its frequency responseabove 4 kHz is the same as that of the classic C 12 with a slighthigh-frequency boost. Below 4 kHz, however, the C 414 B-XL IIhas an absolutely flat response.

This version of the C 414 is the preferred tool for miking up vocalsand distant miking, e.g., of classical music. It provides the samepreattenuation pads and bass cut filters as the C 414 B-XLS andcomes complete with windscreen, spider-type suspension, profession-al pop filter, and individual frequenca response printout.

C 4500 B-BC

The AKG C 4500 B-BC is a front-address, large-diaphragmcondenser microphone designed for critical on-air broadcastwork as well as for recording of high-SPL instruments such as bassdrum, various brass instruments and guitar amps. Thanks to its inno-vative acoustical design and patented internal multi-layer pop filter,the C 4500 B-BC has minimal proximity effect enablingclose-up use without bass build-up and its front-address format makesit easy to position for best results. Exceptionally high headroom and extremelylow self noise put the C 4000 B among the condenser micro-phones with the widest dynamic range available today and itwill give equally excellent results in the studio and on stage.

A switchable 10-dB preattenuation pad allows the C 4000 Bto be used for close-in miking of instruments producing extremelyhigh sound pressure levels such as guitar amps etc. A switchablebass cut filter eliminates low-frequency noise.

C 3000 B

For the new C 3000 B, AKG designed a special 1-inch large-diaphragm transducer that closely approximates the vibrationperformance of top-class studio microphones, but can be made atmuch lower cost.

Due to its surface area and special capsule tuning, the C 3000 Blarge-diaphragm transducer produces an exceptionallypleasing, smooth sound. Unlike in the C 3000, the switch-able 10-dB preattenuation pad immediately follows the trans-ducer in the signal path, thus increasing the C 3000 B’s SPLcapability by a true 10 dB. Loud sound sources are therefore no prob-lem. An acoustically optimized cardioid polar pattern makes theC 3000 B an excellent choice for both recording and live soundapplications where high gain before feedback is paramount.

C 2000 B

With its new battery monitoring electronics, theC 1000 S now features an LED warning light that warnswhen battery life falls below 45 minutes. The pickup pat-tern can be quickly switched from cardioid to hypercardioid simply byattaching the PPC 1000 polar pattern converter provided to themicrophone capsule. Responding to growing demand, AKG has recreated the sonic per-formance of the legendary C 451 EB + CK 1 combination in amodern new microphone. The new C 451 B has dramaticallyimproved specifications and reliability. The new non-modu-lar microphone has an extremely light diaphragm for insensitivity tohandling noise, and still retains the incredible transient response ofthe original. The nickel-plated, all-metal chassis is attractiveand provides excellent protection from RF interference and the rigorsof handling. The C 451 B transformerless output section ensures itis an excellent tool for capturing transient-rich signals such as drums,percussion and acoustic guitar.

The Discreet Acoustics Modular-Series is a new modular backelectret microphone system. It comprises five capsule modules andsix installation modules (five gooseneck and one hanging module)which can be used in any combination. The modules screw togetherfor extremely stable and reliable connections.

Applications include speech reinforcement and recording in places of worship, conference centers, at panel discussions, etc.

STANDARD ACCESSORIES: WINDSCREENS

The CK 47 and CK 80 include the unchanged W 70 or W 80windscreen, respectively. The CK 31, 32, and 33 capsule modulescome with a new, two-layer windscreen called the W 30. Two differ-ent materials provide optimum rejection of wind noise. The darkgray outer layer swirls the impinging air stream. The colored insidelayer is more permeable to air and acoustically neutral. It steadiesthe air stream before it hits the diaphragm. This two-stage processcuts wind noise extremely efficiently.

INSTALLATION MODULES

All installation modules feature a status LED ring normally pow-ered off the phantom supply voltage. When the microphone has beencorrectly connected and the system and phantom power switched on,the LED ring will glow at medium brightness. Thus, the sound system

operator will know at a glance which microphones have beeninstalled correctly. Note that in this configuration the LED ring onlyindicates the system is ready to operate (NOT that the microphone isopen!). However, all installation modules except for the E versionsallow the LED ring to be powered from an external supply for “open

mic” indication. In this mode, the LED ring will light much morebrightly to alert the talker that their mic is open. Where neither ofthese functions is desired, the user may deactivate the LED ring alto-gether. This allows you for the first time to select status indicatormodes without having to buy a new microphone.

AS 8 / AS 8 TCADAPTIVE PROPORTIONAL GAIN SHARING

The patented Adaptive Proportional Gain Sharing algorithm con-sists of two crucial elements that make it unique among automixers.

GAINSHARING

The first, “Continuous Gain Modulation” or “Gainsharing”, as itis more commonly known, uses a microprocessor to control the chan-nels with Voltage Controlled Amplifiers (VCA’s). The VCA’s act likefaders on a console mixer, adjusting the level of the microphones ina few milliseconds through a continuous gain control. The AS 8automixer proportionally assigns the amount of gain from the sum of

all active microphones equal to ONE open microphone. That meansall the active mics mixed together will deliver the same summed gainas a single microphone at full gain. An advantage to this design isthat the constant gain means background levels remain the sameregardless of mic activity. In recording and conferencing applications,this means the room ambient noise will be observed as constant.That same noise is limited to the noise level you would get with onlyone microphone on in the room - it will not vary or overpower yoursignal. And the gain before feedback stability in sound reinforcementapplications is consistent.

ADAPTIVE SKEWING

The second (or adaptive) part of the algorithm is called “Auto-skewing.” By monitoring input signal strength, duration and band-width the mixer “recognizes” the signal at a microphone and assignsa preference for that signal to that input. When it detects the samesignal at another input, it will not apportion gain to that other chan-nel because it already has identified that signal at good level on thefirst channel.

For example, an instructor in a given venue may be wearing alectern mic. As the instructor moves about the room he or she maystop occasionally to speak from the lectern. The Auto-skewing willrealize that it already has the instructor’s audio on the lavalier and willnot “open” the lectern microphone to the same voice. This preventsphasing and comb filtering problems. The other mic would “open up”only if it detects the lectern’s mic as stronger, longer in duration or“better” sounding in which case the gain will seamlessly be appor-tioned up to the lectern mic and down to the lavalier. Or the othermic(s) could be apportioned gain if a different talker(s) began speak-ing in which case the algorithm will perform a mathematically perfectNOM attenuation as any number of mics “open up.”

REMOTE LEVEL CONTROL CONNECTIONS

Remote control is easily accomplished through the DB-15 connec-tor on the rear panel. This provides a direct connection to the VCAlevel controller on each channel and the main output for external vol-ume control pots, switches (or both) to be added.

“DAISY CHAIN” MULTIPLE AS 8 MIXERS

Up to 15 AS 8 mixers can be inter-connected in a“master/slave” configuration for larger systems needing more thaneight inputs. In this configuration, all automatic mixing functions arecombined among the mixers, with the “master” unit providing thereference signals and control over the gain allocation and skewing.

BUILT-IN COMPRESSOR/LEVELER

A compressor/leveler is included in the algorithm to compensatefor level differences between loud and soft talkers. Maintaining uni-form sound levels provides a significant improvement in sound quality.

TWO VERSIONS AVAILABLE

The AS 8 is the basic version. The AS 8 TC provides additional,separate bass and treble controls for each channel.

THE BASE STATION – THE HEART OF THE CS 2

The Base Station controls up to 200 Microphone Stations andtakes up only 1U of rack space. Base Stations can be “daisy-chained“ to add as many Microphone Stations to the system asrequired - there is virtually no limit.

Depending on the size of the system, the Base Station requiresan appropriate power supply, either a CS PS 20 for up to 40 talkers,two CS PS 20s for up to 80 talkers, or one CS PS 100 for up to 200talkers. The CS PS 100 with its higher power rating uses a 1 U rackmount case.

The Base Station provides all the inputs and outputs usuallyneeded for a conference system, plus some more including an effectsinsert, headphones jacks, etc.

The CS 2 Base Station provides automatic NOM (Number ofOpen Microphones) attenuation. System gain will decrease byapprox. 2 dB every time the number of open microphone doubles,even if the microphones are connected to different units in a multi-ple Base Station setup. The result is a substantially lower risk of feed-back even if the number of open microphones varies constantly.

A selectable Voice Activation function turns the microphones onautomatically as soon as they are talked into.

The NOM Limitation function allows the number of simultaneous-ly open microphones to be limited to one, two, three, four, or five.This function can be locally disabled on each Microphone Station soa specific microphone, e.g., one mounted on a lectern, will come onevery time, no matter how many mics may be open already.

The CS 2 is the ideal solution for venues where a sound engineeris not available for every discussion, such as meeting rooms, townhalls, etc. The central Base Station controls microphone channels anda priority button allows one or more chairpersons to call the meetingto order.

Two types of Microphone Stations are available, the Chair Stationwith a priority button (any number of Chair Stations can be used ina system) and the Delegate Station. Each Microphone Station isavailable in a desktop version for mobile use or with an installationframe for permanent flush mounting in a tabletop. Providing twoloudspeakers, two headphone outputs, and a “Voice Zoom” function,each version can be used by two persons.

The CS 2 uses the famous Discreet Acoustics microphone cap-sules that connect to the Microphone Stations via a GN 30 CS(approx. 12 in./30 cm) or GN 50 CS (approx. 20 in./50 cm)gooseneck. A rugged, threaded TRS mini jack with gold plated con-tacts ensures a firm, wobble-free mechanical joint and excellent elec-trical contact.

Five different ready-to-use cables in standard lengths between 4ft. (1.25 m) and 66 ft. (20 m) are available for connecting the indi-vidual Microphone Stations together. This does not only save timebut increases the reliability of the system. A range of optional acces-sories will solve any installation problem.
