The theme for this biennial conference has been ‘Everyone deserves a champion’ with international and local presenters assisting us in our learning journey to ensure every child is succeeding because they have a champion. Thank you to Michelle Lang and crew for keeping things running smoothly in my absence. Congratulations to the Moura SS Band members for their great performance last week as they came home with the Second Place certificate for the Juvenile Band section. Great playing, Instrumentalists! And thank you to Mr Chris Allen and your parents for getting you there. Congratulations also need to be extended to our Verse Speaking students for their great effort at the Eisteddfod on Monday. The following places were awarded – 8 years: Neve Gassman (2nd), Klancy Brown (Very Highly Commended) 9 years: Abigail Conway (2nd), Giselle Dickson (3rd), Rosabella Elgowhary, Sophie Hutchinson and Lillian Becker (Very Highly Commended), Griffin Bennett, Luke Edwards, Oliver Bennett and Bridie Krebs (Highly Commended) 10 years: Summer Krebs (3rd), Harrison Corr and Makalah Hewitt (Very Highly Commended), Jazmyne Hamilton-Grant, Banjo Brown, Annaka Hanson and Alice Theodore (Highly Commended) 11 years: Xavier Elgowhary (3rd), Macy Francis (Very Highly Commended), Heidi Swaffer-Selff, Heidi Hutchinson, and Scout Dickson (Highly Commended) 12 years: Arianna Hanson (3rd), Jack Edwards (Very Highly Commended) For some of these students it was their first go at verse speaking so this was a top effort. Many thanks to Mrs Michelle Lang for being the ‘coach’, Mrs Joelene King for assisting and to the parents who provided transport and moral support. Further congratulations are then extended to the students who achieved well at the Eisteddfod in other areas through their private non-school lessons – piano, singing, drama etc. A full list (if we manage to capture them all) will be published next week. CAMERATA On Friday 8 June, Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra is putting on a performance at Kianga Hall at 1.30-2.30pm. The students in Years 3-6 will be attending. The concert is designed to provide audiences with an enjoyable event for the whole family, without needing to travel beyond their own communities.
