I would like to draw your attention to the Urban Rangers and National
Trust page of the newsletter. I would love to see and hear about more of
our pupils taking advantage of this exciting opportunity. It has been great
for me personally to learn more about the activities of our very own Oak
Rangers and to see the actual work that they are doing with our own
grounds and the flowerbed at the front of school. This goes alongside the
work of the PCSO team in Year 8 and the recent meeting of the Eco
Club. It is fantastic to see young people caring and taking an active
stance engaging with our environment.
Finally, I was so proud to meet Ryan this week and hear all about his
successful Taekwondo tournament in Italy over last weekend. Well done
Ryan!

REVISION TIMETABLE
Year 11 Progress Evening
Thank you for your continued support for the school.
Last week’s Progress Evening was the best attended in the past three years with 76% of parents or carers able to attend.
The feedback from the evening was overwhelmingly positive. For example; 92% of
respondents felt that teaching at the school was high quality and 95% believed that the school was continually improving.
The school values feedback received on these evenings as it allows us to further improve the standard of education at the school.
Hair & Beauty at Broadoak School
The Year 10 and 11 pupils who study Hair and Beauty attended a professional workshop this week. The workshop was given by Evka Allen, a make-up artist and
hair stylist. Evka demonstrated various techniques, offered careers advice and
took a question and answer session.
Well done to the following pupils, you have spent the most time on Bedrock out of the
entire school this week.

URBAN RANGERS AND THE NATIONAL TRUST
The Urban Rangers scheme in Partington runs on the 1st Saturday of every month
and is free.
On Saturday 1st February the Learning Team at Dunham have decided for the Urban
Rangers, which is open to all pupils of any age, to be picked up by mini bus and
taken to Dunham Massey at 11am from the Oak Road shops in Partington. They will
work on different jobs, including pond dipping and water quality testing and also use
the sandbox. You will need to bring the completed application form signed with
parental consent to go along on the day.
Please bring snacks, drinks and refreshments on the day.
Sporting Achievement
Recently, one of our Year 7 pupils, Ryan, travelled to Italy to compete in a
Taekwondo competition representing his country. Ryan competed in Weight and Belt
and in a higher age category which meant his opponents were bigger and technically
more advanced than him. Ryan’s first opponent was disqualified for breaking the
rules and he was losing 2-6 to his second opponent at the break. Ryan brilliantly
then went on to beat his second opponent 24-10 meaning he had won the gold
medal! This is a fantastic achievement for Ryan and the PE department are so
thrilled for him. Congratulations Ryan.
Seneca learning is a new online tool being used by Science for Year 9-11. Seneca
has a proven track record of increasing pupils’ grades at GCSE and all the Science
teachers would strongly recommend the pupils use it for their revision. For
homework Year 9-11 will all be asked to join a Seneca classroom. Their class
teacher will then set homework in this classroom for them to complete. Each week
there are top 3 Seneca learners and they will all be entered into a prize draw at half
term!
You don’t have to wait for homework to be set to get on Seneca, pupils can compete
activities at any time. Let’s get learning!
This weeks three top Seneca Learners who will enter a prize draw at the end of the
half term are:
- Elisha Goma Moukala
- Zoe Davies
- Daniel Forsdike
These pupils spent more time on Seneca this week than any other pupils. Well done!
IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION
We have been contacted by Your Housing about anti-social behaviour in the flats on
Westmorland Road. It has been reported that some children have been getting into
the flats without permission and causing issues. This is causing distress and upset to
local residents. If any members of school are seen in these flats without permission
the school will take internal action and will also report the children to the police.
We have also been made aware of an Instagram account that has approached some
of our pupils. Where the pupil has engaged in ‘chat’ with this account, the
conversation has become inappropriate, with offers of some indecent images. We
have reported the account to both Instagram and the police and we have been in
contact with parents whose children have been following this account, where we can
identify pupils from their Instagram names. Please speak to them about using social
media safely and ensuring they are not in touch with anyone that they do not know
personally.
