Volume 57 No. 5 March-April 2017 Our 92nd Year
My Brothers in Christ,
I was looking at a number of the Discoverers for March-
April from the past few years and the opening discussion was
on the rough winter we were having at the time. I hope not to
jinx it but so far it has been a mild winter season. Let’s hope it
continues. January & February were busy. We had a fun Winter
Picnic, a jam packed 3rd Degree with over 60 candidates from
the surrounding councils (ten were from Joseph Barry). We had
the Basketball Free Throw and a very successful Super Bowl
and Texas Hold’em tournament.
Here’s what is happening in the coming weeks:
Ash Wednesday (3/1)
St. Patrick’s Day Party (3/11)
Murder Mystery (4/1)
Easter Week (4/10-16)
Old Timers’ Night (4/18)
As I say every chance I can please get involved. Joseph Barry Council will be all the better with your
input. Come to a meeting and consider helping on one of the many committees/events we have at
Joseph Barry throughout the year.
Vivat Jesus

COLUMBIETTES CORNER
Columbiette Meetings are held at the Joseph Barry
Council Hall, 45 Heitz Place, Hicksville, on the
fourth Tuesday of each month at 8:00. All Catholic
women, ages 18 and over, are invited to become
members. For more information, call:
President – Barbara DeSalvo at 516 334-7255
The Columbiettes hosted our first Paint Party.
Cheryl's Paintbrush instructed the Picasso
attendees to paint a spring flower on canvass. This
was all new to a few of us. We had a group of 35+
and the results on the canvasses were amazing. It
was a fun night and we got to take our finished
artwork home to display.
March 1st is Ash Wednesday and the beginning
of Lent. Prayer, sacrifice and concern for others this
Season of Lent will deepen our faith. Columbiettes
will hold a Lenten Food Drive for the Poor. Sister
Columbiettes will donate bags of groceries to the
St. Ignatius Food Pantry.
St. Ignatius Activity Committee will be
celebrating a Soup and Salad Lenten Supper. Sister
Columbiettes will be participating as part of our
Lenten service.
May faith and hope lead us all to a Blessed
Easter. Peace of Jesus!
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Barbara DeSalvo

that term.
Long-Term Care Plans Offer Peace of Mind
Since its addition to the Order’s product portfolio in
2000, long-term care (LTC) insurance has provided
the Knights of Columbus with an excellent opportunity
to further serve members and their families. And, for
our long-term care policy holders in the United States,
there’s an added bonus.
It’s called “Provider Pathway,” a program offering
access to a network of long-term care providers at
discounted rates. The network includes discounts on
products, such as hearing aids, diabetic supplies,
personal emergency response systems, and durable
medical equipment, as well as skilled nursing
facilities, assisted living, and adult day care.
Eligibility for participation in this program is open
to Knights of Columbus long-term care insurance
policyholders, their spouses, dependent children,
parents and parents-in-law. All providers are fully
credentialed and meet state licensing requirements.
If you haven’t yet spoken with me about long-
term care insurance, you owe it to yourself to do
so. There are a few decisions to make in choosing
a “plan” — a comprehensive plan that covers care
whether you’re at home or in a facility, or one that
covers facility only; daily benefit amounts and
benefit durations (how much and how long it will
last); and the length of the elimination period
(waiting period) before benefits kick-in.
Having a professionally trained agent ¯ and a
brother Knight you can trust ¯ to help guide you
through the process is yet another valuable benefit
that comes with your membership. Take advantage
of it; contact me today.
