Aim of Workshop (1)Aim of Workshop (1)

ALICE DCS project is running since several years been pending ~ one year now being re-launched

Take a step backwards…… and review the basic issues project definition and organization status of Joint Controls Project (JCOP) status of Detector Controls

Description of detector Many detectors, different in size and complexity Detector R&D not finished yet in several cases…

Review of control needs inventory done in the past global overview was presented - many ‘similar’ needs systematic registration now to be done

What do you expect What do you expect from ACC team (1)from ACC team (1)

Some comments: To harmonize and make various detectors parts work

together To organize common ways to:

collect and record DCS data what data; environmental data records, etc

Look at implications due to limited access to equipment, redundancy needs

Cover security issues, handling of alarms

Page 18: 30.5 2001Summary DCS Workshop - L.Jirdén1 Summary of DCS Workshop 28/29 May 01 u Aim of workshop u Program u Summary of presentations u Conclusion

Test-lab; when and what available PVSS support, software drivers Connections with external services what to be handled via DAQ and via DCS Beam-test systems etc.

Proposed DCS organization generally accepted

Workshop Conclusion (1)Workshop Conclusion (1)

Proposed Project organization Basic project outline accepted Controls Coordination and Controls Board mandate has

been defined - members nominated – after ok from TB ready to start working

JCOP progressing according to program plan PVSS II selection - major achievement framework tools advancing well - 1st release May 2001 feedback from the experiments important

Page 20: 30.5 2001Summary DCS Workshop - L.Jirdén1 Summary of DCS Workshop 28/29 May 01 u Aim of workshop u Program u Summary of presentations u Conclusion

30.5 2001 Summary DCS Workshop - L.Jirdén 20

Conclusion (2)Conclusion (2)

Detector groups very good response ~ 35 participants widespread progress only a few have started evaluation and prototype work devices in general not yet fixed but becoming urgent general wish to use common ‘standards’ welcomed the re-activation of ALICE controls

Aim of workshop contacts established, discussions re-launched and we

have learnt to know each other. 1st milestone has been achieved
