Bangalore, 27 August, 2016: A large contingent of
employees of St Martha’s Hospital including doctors, nurses,
administrative staff and other employees extended their whole
hearted support to a 5km World Walk organized walk for the
cause of cancer recently. The walk was organized to
demonstrate support and solidarity towards the cause of
prevention and care of cancer. The walk was conducted in
association with celebrity Milind Soman’s group Pinkathon,
A.I.M.A, Cyclothon and Cancer Care. Celebrities Anju Bobby
George and Gokulu Gopalan were also present to extend their
support.
A total number of 600 participants contingent completed the
walk that was conducted within Cubbon Park and the Vidhan
Soudha. The option of jogging the distance was also taken up
by a few members. The team’s idea was to a raise a fund that
would be their contribution to the money being raised by
Cancer Care for patients at Kidwai Memorial Hospital and St

The walk,
which was
open to all
began with a
session of
yoga and a
warm up
session of
Zumba. T
shirts
commemorating the event were distributed to participants. A
sumptuous breakfast was also made available.
Speaking on their participation in the walk, Sister Superior, the
Sr. Teresa Mandakath of St Martha’s said, “St Martha’s Hospital
has always been about providing quality care and spreading
awareness on ailments as well, through compassion and care.
This cause of prevention and care for cancer is in keeping with
the ideals that St Martha’s tries to promote through all its work.
We are happy to have a large group of our staff members
participate in the walk.”
“The 5km walk was quite a pleasure to undertake and that too
with colleagues on a Saturday. Cancer can be a great leveler
and as doctors it is our duty and responsibility to be a part of
such walks for a cause”, said Dr. Giridhar, Senior Consultant
and Unit Chief at St Martha’s Hospital and one of the
participants of the walk.
