highlights from stakeholdersfeedback

NEEDS•data with greater resolution then presented•climate data•data on impacts and risks

EXPECTATIONS•understand climate change• acquire information disseminate to public•information to improve management options•knowledge for land-use planning, DRR and EWS

CLIM-RUN presentations

• Alessio Bellucci sea level rise in the north adriatic basin seasonal forecast of extreme events

(precipitation and heat waves)• Erika Coppola

analysis of extreme indices derived from simulation of regional model RegCM4, 50 Km for Europe

• Silvia Torresan e Valentina Gallina services for impacts and climate change

adaptation in coastal zones of north adriatic

discussion on climate products

• is information provided understandable?• will you be able to use it?• if not: how can it be improved?• is information presented relevant for your

activities?• what other information would you need?

Page 12: 3 rd governing board assembly 8-10 July 2013, ENEA, Roma valentina giannini ( cmcc )

highlights from discussion

questions were asked to better understand what was presented, suggested improvements:• data to support different planning: longer time

series of observations, higher resolution• regional agencies can do downscaling• data on precipitation and winds• in northern Italy a research project is trying to

create a repository of daily data since 1960• precipitation patterns to improve irrigation

Climate impact and adaptation servicesin the North Adriatic coast

Regional Risk Assessment (RRA) was proposed to develop 3 products:sea level rise inundation risk maps pluvial flood inundation risk maps in

urban areaswater stress index and maps for agricultural typologies

A questionnaire was administered to collect stakeholders’ feedbacks about: testing areas for product’s

applicationinput dataoutput data

6 stakeholders out of 11 answered the questionnaire

Regional Risk Assessment: main phases, inputs and outputs

Page 14: 3 rd governing board assembly 8-10 July 2013, ENEA, Roma valentina giannini ( cmcc )

Product 1 Sea level rise inundation risk maps

feedback

Stakeholders agreed with the proposed dataset suggesting more detailed maps for vegetation and subsidence for Friuli Venezia Giulia Region

Stakeholders were involved in the assignation of scores to the socio-economic and environmental factors used in RRA

Hazard inundation map: 5 stakeholders suggested the visualization in 3 classes, 1 stakeholder preferred 4 classes

A threshold of 60 cm was selected by the majority of stakeholders (5/6) as the maximum water level which generate the maximum inundation hazard.

Product 2 Pluvial flood inundation risk maps in urban areas

feedback

4 stakeholders considered the Veneto testing area as appropriate

1 stakeholder suggested to include urban and extra-urban areas of Udine and Pordenone (Friuli Venezia Giulia provinces).

4 stakeholders considered the proposed receptors and vulnerability factors as appropriate

1 stakeholder suggested a more detailed analysis of the slope influence on inundated areas

The decade 2041-2050 was considered as appropriate time scale, 2 stakeholders suggested a more detailed analysis of the outputs (i.e. monthly , annual or seasonal number of events).

Product 3 Water stress index and maps for agricultural

typologies

The Po delta was considered not suitable for this product by 4 stakeholders. They suggest to shift to the Upper and Lower Veneto and Friuli plane.

4 stakeholders proposed to consider a more detailed analysis of the crop water balance considering the available water capacity of the soil

The following crop typologies were considered as relevant receptors: corn, cereals and soybean in not irrigated land; rice fields; vineyards; olive groves

4 stakeholders preferred to visualize the result in single crop maps, 1 stakeholder prefers the visualization of a total crop map (i.e. all the crop typologies in the same risk map).

General interest in annual, monthly and seasonal time resolution for the 2041-2050 decade.

next phases

• communication of stakeholders feedback to CET for product improvement (Del 8.2)

• identification of key messages: discussion during annual meeting in Rome inform CLIM-RUN protocol on climate services

• continue interaction with stakeholders: invite to final meeting?

• evaluate the feasibility of applying and test all the climate impact and adaptation products in the North Adriatic region
