FACILITATOR INSTRUCTIONSPrior to the session, prepare 20-30 3x5 index cards (you may only have enough time to use 5-10 cards; but it’s always best to be prepared for larger amounts of time and larger audiences).

On the back of the card, write a definition of that gift. Example: Server (front of card), Someone who likes to help others (back of card).

ACTIVITY: Distribute the cards to the students. Have the students read “their” gift aloud to the class. Be mindful that not all students read on the same level. Allow students to volunteer to participate.

After hearing the responses, have the “reader” read aloud the definition you provided. Then ask the reader to share an example of how he/she can use this gift to add value to others. Ask the “reader” how does it feel when you use your gift to add value to others? Highlight how good it makes everyone feel when we use our gifts to help and support each other.

ReiteReiterate the importance of identifying your gift and using your gift to add value to others. Remind the students that they should do their best to use their gifts to add value to someone once each day; because by adding value to others, you add value to yourself.

GIVE-AWAY IDEASFFor Entire Class: Purchase tiny gift boxes and place a small note that says something similar to the following, “Don’t forget that you are a gift to the world. Use your gift to add value to others.” Distribute the gift boxes to students at the end of your session. Typically, you can purchase them by the case (100 count) for under $20 before shipping.

For Volunteers: Give each volunteer a copy of John’s children’s book(s)
