3 Unofficial Third Edition Vassal Family Rules

1 Mechanics This document holds an unofficial expansion for the published vassal families’ rules material found in the First and Second Editions using the Legend of the Five Ring’s Third Edition RPG’s rule set. All the vassal families exist within the Legend of the Five Ring’s cannon story and have been given mechanics in this document.

1.1 Vassal Family Concept All vassal family characters start as ji-samurai with 0.5 status instead of the normal 1.0 status. Furthermore, their family mon has a difficulty TN of 25 to recognize from any samurai outside their perspective clan (anyone within the clan has the TN lowered by 10). These samurai are called by the major family name outside of their land and then their vassal family estate name (sometimes the name may be the house name). An example of this would be Agasha Maru who is a member of the Chiyu vassal family. This samurai would state himself as “Agasha Maru of House Chiyu.”
