Alta-Aurelia High School will present “Roald Dahl’s Willy
Wonka” Nov. 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. There is a
fee to attend.
“Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka” follows candy manufacturer, Wil-
ly Wonka, as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in �ive
of his candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win
a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of
candy.
Four of the �ive winning children are insufferable brats: the
�ifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes
the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The
children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory or
suffer the consequences.
The cast includes Nathan We�len as Willy Wonka, Tegan Ow-
ens as Charlie Bucket, Caden Shea as Grandpa Joe, Sydney Stan-
ton as Veruca Salt, Matthew Cummins as Mr. Salt, Abigail Mar-
cos as Violet Beauregarde, Jessica Larson as Mrs. Beauregarde,
Brennan Shea as Augustus Gloop, Grace Arnts as Mrs. Gloop,
Kyler Mattson as Mike Teavee, Kienna Carr as Ms. Teavee, Lucas
McKenzie as Grandpa George, Ellie Kaskey as Grandma Georgi-
na, Sierra Hill as Grandma Josephine, Lydia Feis as Mrs. Bucket,
Harrison Price as Mr. Bucket, Simon Carlson as Phineous Trout,
Joelle Arnts as The Candy Man, Ava Graham as James and Kyla
Galvin as Matilda.
Playing the Oompa Loompas are Kaysha Brown, Michael Har-
oldson, Kimberly We�len, Sarah Cummins, Piper Graham, Kyla
Galvin, Ava Graham, Laynie Knecht, Loreli Schumacher and Ella
Walters. Candy Man kids include Jimena Mendoza, Diogo Slief-
ert, Jaden Degner, Madlin Wipperling, Lily Buckendahl, Katie
Bryant, Ella Walters and Sarah Sundene. The squirrels include:
The Alta-Aurelia School Dis-
trict welcomes all veterans
and their families to attend
programs on Veterans Day,
Nov. 11.
The program at Alta-Aurel-
ia High School will start with
complimentary coffee and
rolls for all veterans and their
families beginning at 8:15 a.m.
in the high school commons.
The formal program begins
at 11 a.m. in the high school
gymnasium. Jaymie Bral is the
scheduled speaker.

Alta Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 6172 commander. Cur-
rent VFW of�icers are LaVerne
Ryberg, senior vice command-
er; Lynn Johnson, junior vice
commander; and Bob Ralston,
quartermaster.
The program at Aurelia will
begin at 11 a.m. in the middle
school gymnasium. There will
be a complimentary lunch in
the middle school cafeteria.
Veterans will eat for free and
the community may purchase
tickets. Tim Ireland is the
scheduled speaker.

Amelia Damewood is serving as stage manager. Orchestra
members include Doris Gregg, Matthew Edwards, Brian Ban-
well, Cass Parks, Elizabeth Gustafson and Victoria Gustafson.
Sound and light crewmembers are Kirk Langner, Nora Boelter,
Connie Marcos and Hailey Sutton.
The cast and crew are under the direction of Natalie Brad-
burn and Carrie Buddenhagen.
The annual Scholastic Book Fair is set to take place at Alta
Community Library and Alta-Aurelia Elementary (Aurelia) and
Middle School.
Dates and times at the Alta Community Library are: Nov.
11—8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Nov. 12—8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Nov. 13—8 a.m.
to 4 p.m.; Nov. 14—8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Nov. 15—8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Dates and times at Aurelia are: Nov. 11—8 a.m. to noon; Nov.
12—8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Nov. 13—8 a.m. to noon; Nov. 14—8 a.m.
to noon and 2 to 8 p.m. and Nov. 15—8 to 10 a.m.

Proceeds from Alta book sales will be used to purchase books
for the elementary library at Alta and proceeds from the Aure-
lia book sales go toward purchasing books for the elementary
library in Aurelia.
Book fair hours set
The Alta-Aurelia Communi-
ty School District has an en-
rollment of 692 students this
school year, according to its cer-
ti�ied enrollment �igure.
There are 189 students at
Alta-Aurelia High School. Per
grade, there are 49 in ninth
grade, 47 in 10th grade 40 in 11th
grade and 53 in 12th grade as
School district releases enrollment numbers
resident full-time students.
Alta-Aurelia Middle School
has 198 students, 49 in �ifth
grade, 49 in sixth grade, 51 in
seventh grade and 49 in eighth
grade.
Alta-Aurelia Elementary (Alta)
School has 245 students, six stu-
dents in pre-kindergarten, 56 in
kindergarten, 57 in �irst grade,
40 in second grade, 30 in third
grade and 48 in fourth grade.
Alta-Aurelia Elementary (Au-
relia) School has 16 students in
kindergarten, 13 in �irst grade,
12 in second grade, eight in
third grade and 11 in fourth
grade.
The Alta Public Library has
several events scheduled for
November.
Toddle Time is held every
Friday at 10:30 a.m. for chil-
dren ages �ive and under.
This month’s after school
movie is “The Angry Birds 2
Movie” on Monday, Nov. 18, at
4 p.m. All ages are welcome.
On Friday, Nov. 22, at 6 p.m.,
stop in at the library for a trip
to the North Pole on the library
train. “We will be reading the
‘Polar Express’,” said the li-
brary staff, “sipping on hot
chocolate, enjoying sweets and
getting ready to kick off the
holiday season. Please wear
your comfy pajamas and come
ready for a magical adventure.
All ages are welcome.”
November Alta library events
All-State try-outs for Al-
ta-Aurelia High School stu-
dents were held in Le Mars
Oct. 26.
Auditioning were Sier-
ra Hill, Caden Shea, Abigail
Marcos, Tegan Owens, Bri-
an Banwell, Grace Arnts and
Lucas McKenzie.
Band students who audi-
tioned for All-State included:
Joelle Arnts (flute); Jana Jes-
sup (flute), Simon Carlson
(oboe), Victoria Gustafson
(bari sax) and Elizabeth Gus-
tafson (percussion).
On Oct. 24, several Al-
ta-Aurelia High School stu-
dents participated in the
Heartland Honor Choir in
Estherville at Estherville
Lincoln Central. The day was
spent rehearsing and ended
with a concert that evening.
Students participating
were: Grace Arnts, Lydia
Feis, Piper Graham, Kyla
Galvin, Abby Johnson, Layne
Knecht, Abigail Marcos,
Tegan Owens, Cass Parks,
Karla Chicas, Kim Weflen,
Kaysha Brown, Alexis Wil-
liams, Simon Carlson, Daniel
Langner, Brennan Shea and
Caden Shea.
The guest conductor for
the choir was Ryan Person.
The songs performed for the
concert were: “Ipharadisi”
arranged by Brad Richmond,
“I Know I’ve Been Changed”
arranged by Christopher As-
paas, “The Gartan Mother’s
Lullably” arranged by Neil
Ginsberg and “The Promised
Land” arranged by Drew Col-
lins.
Instructors are Megan
Benz for band and Natalie
Bradburn for choir.
