Define pain 2. Recognize signs and symptoms of spinal pain that may indicate a serious or life-threatening etiology 3. Identify the components of pain that should be considered in addition to the biological component 4. Discuss various methods to measure pain and efficacy of pain management 5. Discuss Waddell’s signs, what they relate to, and limitations to their use 6. Describe the statistics of pain and how they relate to patient care 7. Differentiate between malingering, factitious disorders, and somatoform disorders 8. Correlate the most likely origin of pain to the type of pain described 9. Differentiate between acute and chronic pain 10. Discuss complex regional pain syndrome and it’s subtypes, including etiology and possible treatment strategies 11. Discuss various etiologies of cervical pain and radiculopathy, including diagnostic methods and treatment 12. Discuss various etiologies of low back pain and radiculopathy, including diagnostic methods and treatment 13. Differentiate between claudication and pseudoclaudication, including signs, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options 14. Discuss the etiology, signs, symptoms and treatment options for: Vertebral compression fracture Sacroiliac dysfunction Myofascial pain 15. Correlate the type of pain with recommended medications or other treatment options 16. Differentiate between addiction and pseudo-addiction 17. Describe the “4-A’s” of patient monitoring during opioid therapy 18.
