I will read out a variety of coordinates.

If you have the coordinate I read out, crosss it off.

Main 2: number patterns

Got It is an adding game.

We will begin by playing it as a whole class and then, you may play it a few times with just the

person sitting next to you.

Dec 712:54

Main 2: number patterns

The Got It target 23.

The first player chooses a whole number from 1 to 4.

Players take turns to add a whole number from 1 to 4 to the running total.

The player who hits the target of 23 wins the game.

Main 2: number patterns

Write down the answers to the questions below:

Play the game several times.

Can you find a winning strategy?

Can you always win?

Does your strategy depend on whether or not you go first?

L.O.• all pupils can confidently deal with coordinates

• all pupils can notice number patterns• all pupils can use operations to manipulate numbers

• all pupils can solve mathematical problems

Dec 712:54

Main 3: operations

You have five number 2s and can use the four operations as many times as you like.

You may also use brackets.

Your challenge is to derive a way of making all the numbers from 1 to 20.

e.g. 4+4+4+4+4=20

Dec 712:54

Main 3: operations

Extension: Instead of using the number 2s, try and

find as many of the numbers between 1 and 20 just using these 9 numbers once.

Dec 712:54

Main 4: mathematical problems

On a scrap piece of paper, draw:

Five white frogs

Five green frogs

One rock

Dec 712:54

Main 4: mathematical problems

Line your frogs up like so:

Dec 712:54

Main 4: mathematical problems

Your challenge is to get all the green frogs where the white frogs were and all the white frogs where the

green frogs were.

RulesFrogs can only:

• jump over one frog onto a gap or the rock• step one space forward at a time onto a

gap or the rock

Dec 712:54

Main 4: mathematical problems

Extension:This is a game for 2 players.

You first draw a daisy with five petals.

The players take it in turns to shade one petal or two petals next to each other.

The winner is the one to shade the last petal.

Dec 712:54

Main 4: mathematical problems

Extension:

Try to work out the winning strategy and whether one of the players has the advantage.

What happens if you have more than five petals?
