WHAT’S HAPPENING AT KPS

The ninth National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is being held on Friday 15 March 2019. This annual day is Aus-

tralia’s key anti-bullying event for schools to stand united against bullying and violence with school communities across the

nation.

Students will engage in a range of lessons, discussions and videos on bullying within their classes. The national definition of bullying for Australian schools is the starting point for bullying prevention.

Bullying is an ongoing misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that causes

physical and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power over one or more persons. Bul-

lying can happen in person or online, and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert).

Bullying of any form or for any reason can have long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders.

Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying. However, these

conflicts still need to be addressed and resolved.

It is important that we are all well-educated and know the various forms of bullying. Students will be provided with an anti bullying wrist band, a ribbon and information cards for themselves as well as parents and caregivers. Please join us in educating the students on bullying and the impacts it has on everyone.

Colourful wristbands to support Bullying. No way! will be sold by the SRC this Friday morning for 50c.

If you would like to support our school fundraiser please send money with your child.

In Week 6 the preschool staff Mrs Gibbs and Ms Hughes attended SWAY training. This is Sound, Words, Aboriginal Language and Yarning. It allows Preschool teachers to embed aboriginal perspectives in their teaching and provide an intensive speech program for students to access. Ms Hughes also attended ELSA training. This is Early Learning STEM Australia which focuses on interactive apps relating to science, technology, engineering and mathematics in the classroom.

Welcome to the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge

The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to ena-

ble them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read,

to read more and to read more widely.

2019 Key Dates:

March 4: Challenge opens. Students will be able to log books on their Student Reading Record, and

coordinators will be able to create accounts for new students.

August 30: Closing date for student entries.

September 13: Final date for validation of Student Reading Records by coordinators.

From the literacy committee , Miss Lee & Mrs Gjorseska

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING

Positive Behaviour for Learning is an evidence-based whole school process to improve learn-ing outcomes for all students. PBL brings together the whole-school community to contrib-ute to developing a positive, safe and supportive learning culture. The framework assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.

At Kemblawarra Public School, the PBL framework is being implemented school-wide from Preschool-Year 6.

Our three core values are Respect-Safe-Responsible. These values underpin the expected behavioural out-

comes across the school and are the focus of our weekly PBL class lessons, school-wide behaviour system and

the focus of our Circle Time sessions at school.

TEACHERS ARE LEARNERS TOO

KEMBLAWARRA FUNDRAISING

SRC EASTER HAMPER RAFFLE Dear School Community,

Our SRC reps across the school have met this term to start organising our first fundraising event.

We are asking for donations of Easter eggs for our Easter Hat Parade fundraiser on Friday 12 April of this term.

We will be sending home raffle books this week but we need prizes! Eggs of all shapes and sizes would be greatly appreciated.

Every year our raffle has become bigger and bigger.

The SRC hopes that this year we will have the big-gest success yet!

All money raised will go toward the S.R.C to fund school projects.

Thank you on behalf of the Kemblawarra School Representative Council (S.R.C)
