Do you remember an embarrassing moment? Jessie McCartney, star of the WB's hit show Summerland does. It was his first flop! "At the Summerland

shoot, they had those six-foot-tall Hollywood chairs that say your name on them" Jessie tells Scope. "We weren't doing anything, so I decided that I was going to sit down

for a while. But I hopped up a little too quickly and fell off the chair in front of everybody!"

Despite having taken "a fall", Jessie's career is on the rise. His new CD, Beautiful Soul, has gone platinum with the hit single "She's No You." "I'm more proud of that songthan anything else I've done," Jessie told the Music Countdown.

At eighteen, the singer /actor already has a long list of achievements to be proud of. At nine, he landed a starring role on Broadway in the

musical The King and I . He joined the boy band Dream Street at age twelve. Now, in addition to playing trouble teen Bradin Westerly on

Summerland He's on a world tour 8 Beautiful Soul. "I love reaching out to people and letting them listen to music and forget about

whatever's going on," he says.

Jessie himself has found music to be a heeling force during 10 times. When He was fifteen, tragedy struck his life: His best friend, Frankie, was

killed in a car accident. "It was a really heavy time," Jessie, remembers. But music helped me get through so much-it's unbelievable." Jessie still

thinks of his friends often. "I'll be doing something or smelling something and think, "Hey, this reminds me of Frankie.

But Jessie is never one to give up hope. "I'm a problem solver," he says. In addition to writing music and performing, Jessie

sings at benefit concerts to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. The hospital

treats children who have cancer and other serious illnesses.

As he told Teen People, "I hope to get people involved and make them realize the importance of giving back."
