Anytime for emergencies. "Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come." On this First Sunday of Advent, Jesus gives us a wakeup call. This is no time for slumber. Now is the time to be on our toes, alert, attentive, ready. But for what? For the coming of "the Lord of the house." During Advent, the Church does her best to help us get ready for the second coming of Christ. We don't know precisely when he will return, but we know that he will. And the fact is, even if it doesn't happen in our lifetime, each and every one of us will still have to face the Lord at an unknown hournamely, the hour of our death. So let us be prepared! Let us be on the watch for anything that would threaten this most im- portant of all encounters. We want to recognize the Lord as a friend and master, so that on see- ing him we don't cower in fear at his awesome power and strength. Instead, we hope to rejoice in finally being able to behold him facetoface. This of course is the result of a healthy and holy relationship with Christ. To nurture such a relationship this Advent season the Church urges us to recommit to a life of prayer, worthy reception of the sacraments, and a commitment to following God's loving laws through a life of virtue. With these priorities in order, we can wait for the second coming with joyful anticipation, just as we joyfully await the celebration of Christmas. During these weeks as we prepare our homes for the festive holiday season, may we also set aside some time and effort to prepare our hearts. Then, not only will we appreciate the yuletide wonders around us, but we can also look forward to the eternal wonders that lie in store.

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT! DECEMBER 3, 2017!

!

!

Dear Faithful of Our Lady of Hope,!

It is hard to believe that the liturgical year 2017 has come to an end so quickly. We should constantly be surprised that God chose to become human like us. It is his great gift of honor and dignity to create us in His image. We should always be grateful to him for choosing to be one of us. !!

As Christians, we know well that the New Liturgical Year in the Church begins with the season of Adventa time set aside by the mother church to help us prepare for Christmas, when we celebrate the fulfillment of our long-ing for the Savior with the birth of Jesus.!!

The season of Advent lasts about four weeks, beginning four Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. The Church’s Christmas season begins on Christ-mas Eve and lasts for twelve days. So, Advent is a sea-son of anticipation that leads up to Christmas.!!

What should we do as Christians during this time of preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas? Let us make this liturgical year a season of prayer, and reflectionfollowed by anticipation, hope and joy. Each Sunday during Advent we shall light a candle on the Advent wreath. Each candle lit represents an aspect of the spiritual preparation for the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ. The circle of branches of the wreath symbolize the eternal cycle of the seasons while the evergreens and lighted candles signify the persistence of life in the midst of winter. Take time for meditation and reflection each day of Advent by remembering to offer God your gifts of heartfelt gratitude and love. As a church community, family, and individuals, let us pre-pare our hearts and homes to welcome our savior with joy.!!

Fr. Isidore Munishi, A.J.!

! Please join us this coming Tues-day, December 5th, and Thurs-days, December 14th & 21st for: !Advent Evening Vespers at 7:00 p.m. in the Church beginning with

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and ending with Benediction with Deacon Bill Starkey.

!

On behalf of the 44 families who received Thanksgiving Dinners this year from the So-ciety of St. Vincent de Paul and our parish, THANK YOU!! The turkeys and food items that you provided were very much appreciat-

ed. Once again our parish community demonstrated over-whelmingly one of our true Christian values, the sharing our gifts with our less fortunate brothers and sisters. !

Have you done all the Christmas store shopping you can stand? Is there some-one on your Christmas shopping list that is hard to buy for? Why not consider the Our Lady of Hope Certificate Program for your solution? There are certificates for

many department stores and restaurants available to order Any order placed by Monday morning, December 11th by noon would be available for pickup on Wednesday, December 13th . December 18th is the last day we can order certificates before Christmas and they will be here by the 20th. !
