UNIT ONE
THE NOUN
Book - booksMap - mapsPen - pensEraser - erasersNumber - numbersCar - carsBall - balls
Cow - cowsToy - toysPicture - picturesTable - tablesMeal - mealsMagazine - magazinesTear - tears
Ejemplos:Bus - busesGlass - glassesSandwich - sandwichesBox - boxesBrush - brushesTomato - tomatoesPotato - potatoes
Excepto: pianos, radios
Ejemplos:
Baby - babiesActivity - activitiesUniversity - universitiesQuality - qualitiesCopy - copies
Ejemplos:Life - livesKnife - knivesWife - wives
Excepto:Roof - roofsHandkerchief - handkerchiefs
Mouse - miceLouse - liceMan - menWoman - womenGoose - geeseFoot - feet
Ox - oxenChild - childrenFish - fishDeer - deerSheep - sheepPerson - people
Ejemplos:
Stimulus - stimuliCurriculum - curriculaBasis - basesDatum - dataPhenomenon - phenomena
The gender ( género )
Actor - actress
Manager - manageressMister - mistressWaiter - waitressCount - countess
Ejemplos:
Your aunt’s birthdayThe scientist’s friendMy father’s car
b. Ejemplos:
Men’s shirtWomen‘s roomHer children’s toys
c. Ejemplos :
My friends´ desks The students’ names My parents’ house
d. Ejemplos:
Luis’s carMary’s houseRobert’s pencilAna’s book
Count nouns and Mass Nouns
Three studentsFour circlesFive magnetsA hundred peopleFour test tubes
Ejemplos:
Oil Air ArtWater Wine furnitureSalt Milk Pepper
Oxygen Sugar. Rice
UNIT TWO
Ejemplo:
ManWoman
The MenWomen
The Indefinite Article A - AN
Ejemplo :
A moleculeA book
H con sonido JA houseA happy person
U con sonido ju
A universityA union
Ejemplos:
An oxygen atomAn eraser
H muda. An hourAn honest person
U con sonido vocal (a)An umbrella An ugly person
A book - two books - some books
I live in a house. The house has four bedrooms. I eat in a Chinese restaurant. The restaurant is very good.
2. The Demonstratives (Los Demostrativos) Hay pronombres demostrativos y adjetivos demostrativos. Ejemplos.
Cerca Lejos
Singular THIS THAT
Plural THESE THOSE
THIS : ESTE – ESTA Utilizamos el demostrativo This para sustantivos en singular y sustantivos no contables que
están cerca de nosotros. This book is interesting : este libro es interesante.
This morning – this afternoon – this evening – this weekend.
Para referirnos a un sustantivo mencionado antes. The food is delicious. This is delicious.
THAT: ESE – ESA – AQUELLOS – AQUELLAS Utilizamos el demostrativo That para sustantivos en singular y sustantivos no contables que
están lejos de nosotros. That car is new : ese carro es nuevo
That morning – that afternoon - that evening –that weekend.
Para referirnos a un sustantivo mencionado antesI finish my homework. That is excellent
Los demostrativos están en relación a los adverbios de lugar Here y There (aquí y allí o allá).This is a pen. It’s hereThat is an apple It’s there
El plural de los demostrativos:These y those. Estos, estas y esos, esas.
These are pens - They’re pens they’re hereThose are apples - They’re apples they’re there.

Conocer los Cuantificadores. Conocer un vocabulario básico.
THE QUANTIFIERS
Some and Any Some y any tienen un significado de cantidad no definida..

Comparison of Adjectives and Adverbs
Ejemplos:
Light (adj. Liviano)Hydrogen is lighter than airEl hidrogeno es más liviano que el aire
Hard (adj. Duro)Iron is harder than woodEl hierro es más duro que la madera
Fast (adv.
Ejemplos:
Rose is funny. Mary is funnier than Rose. María es mas graciosa que Rosa.
Charles is lazy. Robert is lazier than CharlesRoberto es más ocioso que Carlos
French is easy. English is easier than FrenchEl inglés es más fácil que el francés.
My sister is nervous My mother is more nervous than my sisterMi madre es más nerviosa que mi hermana
George drives carefully Manuel drives more carefully than that man.Manuel maneja más cuidadosamente que ese hombre
This datum is reliable This datum is more reliable than that oneEste dato es más confiable que aquel.
As..............as (tan.......como)Ejemplos:
Water is as necessary as air.
Vitamin is as good as protein.
Victor speaks as well as Iris.Víctor habla tan bien como Iris.
The same as (lo mismo que , igual que)Ejemplos:
This room is the same as the other one.“Este salón es lo mismo que el otro”
“Last name” is the same as “surname”.“apellido “ es lo mismo que “apellido”.
My book is the same as hers,Mi libro es igual al de ella.
Like..........(como)Ejemplos:
He plays chess like a professional.El juega ajedrez como un profesional.
That boy climbs the tree like a monkeyEse niño trepa el árbol como un mono
Comparativo de inferioridadLess ...........than (menos que)Ejemplos:
This chair is less comfortable than the armchairEsa silla es menos confortable que el sillón.
Fall is less exciting than summerEl otoño es menos emocionante que el verano.
The Superlative (el superlativo)El superlativo se forma agregando est al adjetivo o adverbio de una sílaba, con el artículo the precedido a éste.
Ejemplos:
Brazil is the biggest country in South America.
Huascarán is the highest now peak mountain in Peru.
Joseph runs the fastest in our group.
English is the easiest language in the world.
Who is the craziest boy here?¿Quién es el muchacho más loco aquí?
Ejemplos:
Who is the most studious in your class?¿Quién es el más estudioso en tu clase?
Mr. Torres is the most capable employee hereMr. Torres es el empleado más capaz aquí.
My mother drives the most carefully in my family.

PRONOUNS
Ejemplos:

Alice’s book = her bookThe students’ names = their names.
My pen is red Mine is red.Mi lapicero es rojo. El mío es rojo.
Your stapler is new. Yours is new.Tu engrampador es nuevo. El tuyo es nuevo.
Their room is big. Theirs is big.Su aula es grande. El suyo (de ellos) es grande.

UNIT SEVEN
Hacer transformaciones a interrogativa y negativa.
THE PRESENT TENSE• We use present simple :• For permanent states and repeated or habitual actions.• For general truths and laws or nature.• For timetables and programmers• For sports commentaries, reviews and narrations
Ejemplo: To work : trabajar
IYou
work
HeShe
Itworks
WeYouThey
work
We wash He washesThey fix She fixesYou catch it catchesI kiss he kissesThey do she does
You go He goes
• Los verbos que terminan en vocal + y se le añade –sI stay he staysI play he playsI buy he buys
• Los verbos que terminan en consonante + y , se le quita la y , y reemplazamos por -iesI study he studiesI apply he applies I try He tries
La forma interrogativa usa el verbo do or does como auxiliar , lo cual varía en la tercera persona y convierte al verbo en forma simple.
Aux Subject VerbDo I

Does HeSheIt
Ejemplos:Do you study French? Tu estudias francés?
Does he study French?

Conocer nuevas palabras y expresiones.
THE PAST TENSE
The past tense of the verb Be
Ejemplos de la forma afirmativa:I was at home Yo estuve en casa.He was sick El estuvo enfermoYou were in class Tu estuviste en clase. She was in school Ella estuvo en el colegioIt was easy Fue fácilWe were friends Fuimos amigosYou were enemies Uds. fueron enemigosThey were in Mexico Ellos estuvieron en México.
Short forms of the past tenseSólo la forma negativa tiene formas cortas:
Was not = wasn’tWere not = weren’t
The impersonal verb phrase with beEsta estructura se forma con la palabra THERE más el be. Expresa existencia.Ejemplos:
There is a microscope on the bench.Hay un microscopio en el banco.
There are some machines in the shop.Hay algunas máquinas en la tienda.
There is a party in Lopez’s house.
Ejemplos:
Is there a doctor in the classroom?Hay un médico en el salón?
Are there any books on the shelf?Hay libros en el estante?
Is there a laboratory here?Hay un laboratorio aquí?
Para negar se añade la partícula not al be, tomando como base la forma afirmativa.Ejemplos:
There are not any desk in that room.No hay carpetas en ese salón.
There are not any books on that shelfNo hay libros en ese estante.
There is not any sugar on the tableNo hay azúcar en la mesa.
The past tense of impersonals
El tiempo pasado de esta estructura consiste en cambiar el verbo be al tiempo pasado is a was y are a were.Resulta la estructura:
There was an actor here yesterday.Había (hubo) un actor aquí ayer.
Was there an actor here yesterday?Había (hubo) un actor aquí ayer?
There was not an actor here yesterday. No hubo un actor aquí ayer.
There were three women outside the house.Hubo tres mujeres fuera de clase.
Were there any women outside the house?Hubo alguna mujer fuera de clase?
There were not any women outside the house. No hubo ninguna mujer fuera de clase.
The simple past tense
He passed I wash He washedI reached He reached I mix He mixed
• Verbos que terminan en vocal + y se agrega –edI stayed he stayedI played he played
Excepcion. buy = bought (irregular verb)
Verbos que terminan en consonante + y , se le quita la –y , y agregamos -iedI studied he studiedI applied he applied I tried He tried
Ejemplos de verbosRegulares :
Present ( inf. ) Past Past participle(to) work Worked Worked(to) like Liked Liked(to) stop stopped Stopped
Irregulares :
Write Wrote WrittenGo Went GoneBuild Built BuiltHurt Hurt HurtEat Ate EatenCome Came ComeDrink drank drunk

UNIT ELEVEN : THE CONTINUOUS OR PROGRESSIVE TENSE
THE PRESENT CONTINUOUS
Ejemplos:
Subj Aux Verb Compl.IHeSheWeThey
Amisisareare
drinkingwalkingobservingeatingpracticing
TeaIn the parkThe patientFruitEnglish
Are you drinking tea?Is he walking in the park?Is she observing the patient? Are you eating fruit? Are they practicing English?
I am not drinkingHe is not walking in the patient. You are not eating fruitThey are not practicing English
Short Forms
Ejemplos:Get - gettingBeg - beggingCut - cuttingStop - stoppingRob - robbingOccur - occurringPermit - permitting
Expresiones temporales que usa esta estructura:Now AhoraRight now Ahora mismoAt this moment En este momentoThis (morning) Esta (mañana)This (week) Esta (semana)Today Hoy día.
Statives Verbs and Continuous Tense
Hay algunos verbos llamados de estado que no se usan en la construcción del presente continuo; tales verbos son, entre otros;
Ejemplos:I see the flower = I’m looking at the flowersYo veo las flores = Estoy mirando las flores
I hear a song = I’m listening to a songYo oigo una canción = Estoy escuchando una canción
I know this city = I’m visiting this city Yo conozco esta ciudad = Estoy visitando esta ciudad
Por eso decimos: I’m seeing your problem.
I’m seeing him tomorrow = I’m visiting him tomorrow.
Ejemplos:
Cost requireMean resembleFit containMatter have (como proceso)Owe border onOwn
Ejemplos:It belongs to me Me perteneceThis boy has fever Este niño tiene fiebreWhat’s the matter?
Incorrecto CorrectoI’m having a book I have a bookIt is belonging to me It belongs to meShe’s doubting about the date She doubts about the dateShe’s is liking Peter She likes PeterThat suit is fitting you That suit fits youIt is containing milk It contains milk
Ejemplos:
I’m coming to class at 12 o’clock tomorrow.
He’s playing soccer next SundayEl juega balón pie el próximo domingo.
We’re having a party at Mary’s house on SaturdayTenemos fiesta en la casa de María el sábado.
Rose is going home early after class.

UNIT XIII THE FUTURE TENSE
GOING TO : It’s going to rain soon. PRESENT CONTINUOUS : We are visiting our parents for Christmas PRESENT SIMPLE : The next train for Maryland leaves at 3:00.
Ejemplo : Do you think she will like these flowers?

The future Intentional
Ejemplos :
Subj Aux. Be going to verb Complement
I am going to do my homework
He is going to paint his house
We are going to study for the exam

UNID XVI MODAL AUXILIARIES
Can, could, may, might, will, would, shall, should, must.Y algunos que constan de más de una palabra : would rather, had better, ought to, have to, have got to.
Can expresa habilidad o capacidad física o mental y por otro lado permiso, ofrecimiento.
Mary can run several kilometers María puede correr varios kilómetros.
Can I go out ? ¿Puedo salir?
Can I help you? ¿Puedo ayudarla?
Could indica posibilidad; pasado de can :
