  • Mission statement

To establish a centre of excellence in

medical education, training, health care and research imbued with

scientific culture, compassion for the sick and

commitment to serve the under served

    Logo

The AIIMS Bhopal logo signifies the light of erudition spreading all over,

emanating from abode of Stupa of Sanchi.

Sanchi, in Sanskrit literally means - 'to measure' and represents

complete harmony between mind, body and soul.

The two serpents - signify the two shades of human existence

which physicians encounter - life & death, Health & disease.

    The saying 'Sharirmadhyam khalu dharmasadhanam'

has been quoted from a beautiful dramatic poem called

Kumarasambhavam by Mahakavi Kalidasa. It means

'the body is the means of fulfilments of dharma that is duty'.

The olive branch symbolizes peaceful living.

    2. DIRECTOR’S REVIEW

I feel privileged to present the Second Annual Report and the audited statements of accounts of AIIMS Bhopal. AIIMS Bhopal is one of the apex healthcare Institutes established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY), with the aim of correcting regional imbalances in quality tertiary level healthcare in the country, and attaining self sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education and training. AIIMS Bhopal has been established by an Act of Parliament on the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi to impart both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all its branches and related fields, along with nursingand paramedical training. The establishment of a health care Institute of this magnitude is not only huge but very complex as well. It is a challenging task to integrate state of the art modern healthcare services at one place. All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal grew in last one year, as important decisions were taken with regards to its administrative structure, and creation of new positions. A total of 1143 regular positions were sanctioned, and its recruitment process has been initiated. All para-clinical departments (Microbiology, Pathology and Laboratory medicine, and Pharmacology) were established. Clinical services grew as departments of Anesthesiology, Burn’s and Plastic surgery, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Dermatology, Dentistry, ENT, General Medicine, General Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Pediatrics, Pulmonary Medicine, Radiodiagnosis, Radiotherapy and Transfusion Medicine were established. Patient care services which started in January 2013 continued to gather pace and the foot fall in OPD has increased considerably. The lab support is also gathering pace simultaneously.Institute body was created through a Gazette notification on 16th July 2013, and its first meeting was held in October 2013. Union minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad was nominated as President of All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal. The Governing body, Academic committee, Standing Finance Committee and Selection committees have also been constituted. The Academic committee held its meeting and important decisions for steering the academic growth of the Institute were taken. The second batch of MBBS was admitted in July 2013’. In the second batch student strength has increased to 100. Bachelors course in nursing (B.Sc. - Nursing) has been initiated with an intake of 60 in the first year. Final examinations were conducted for the first batch of 50 medical students and these students have now progressed to second year of medical training. The AIIMS Bhopal campus is now more vibrant, with about 200 medical and nursing students who reside on campus. Students have been accommodated in in-campus hostels. Our students not only excel in academics but are also taking keen interest and active participation in research. The students have also represented AIIMS Bhopal on various academic and research platforms and won accolades for our Institute. We are proud of our faculty who despite having faced hardships in a new Institute, in a new city, have excelled in all spheres – teaching, patient care and research. The engineers, support staff and all employees of the institution continue to work hard to build the institution. I am confident that AIIMS Bhopal will continue to grow by leaps and bounds and become a centre of Excellence in teaching, patient care and research.

    Future plans

l Our department has received Semi-autoanalyzers, Fully automated Chemistry Analyzer, Fully Automated Chemiluminescence Immunoassay Analyzer, Electrolyte Analyzers, Blood Gas Analyzers, Flow Cytometer and ELISA readers. We plan to initiate clinical biochemistry services in phased manner. Since installations of sophisticated equipments like fully automated analyzers require dust free environment and air conditioners, therefore we would start clinical biochemistry facility using semi-autoanalyzers and electrolyte analyzers. Then, in the coming months we will move to fully automated auto-analyzers.
