MESSAGE FROM THE CONFERENCE CHAIR

As a Thomasian, we were ingrained with the Thomasian Core Values: Competence towards Truth and Intellectual Creativity, Compassion to live for the people, and Commitment to provide purpose and a sense of fulfilment. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), I believe, is a lifelong responsibility that companies should strictly adhere to a holistic approach to take care of the environment around them. “For every line you draw, there must be a story: behind each design should be a narrative. If you do a good job, think of the beneficiaries. If you do a lousy job, think of the sufferers.” Each project must strike a balance between the People, the Planet Earth, and lastly, the Economy. This, along with the architect’s tenet of “working with the environment, and not against it,” sustainability is meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future generations, using Green Architecture and Green Urbanism towards sustainable development. “Development is not worthy of a name unless spread evenly like butter on bread.” Sincerely Yours,

Arch. Felino “Jun” A. Palafox, Jr. Conference Chair Principal Architect, Palafox Associates

MESSAGE FROM THE MAP PRESIDENT

The Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) believes that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs and initiatives are important, and encourages companies to be responsible members of society. Strategic CSR programs improve the quality of life of employees, the community and other stakeholders. Hence, the MAP continues to advocate the use of CSR as the model by which Filipino organizations may embrace the principles of integrity and good governance. The MAP is pleased to be a part of the 2nd Philippine Conference on Research in CSR. Special thanks to the organizers, speakers and sponsors. We wish all the participants an enriching Conference! Truly Yours,

Dear Participants,

Welcome to the 2nd Philippine Conference on Research in CSR! We are pleased that you have decided to be one of the CSR and CSR Research proponents and champions in our country. We live in a time which requires all Filipinos to work together in ensuring that all our countrymen get a fair chance to get a good life in the 21st Century. Our theme is "Doing Good Is Not Good Enough". This is because of Sustainability being a critical aspect of any CSR endeavor. In fact, it is our hope that in addition to anecdotal and personal experiences, many CSR projects will now be based on well-researched models, and whose implementation will incorporate research and evaluation. We hope you enjoy the Conference. Very Truly Yours,

SACT focuses on training future teachers and educators who love and want to serve their country, while also understanding that the world is fast-changing. SACT is committed to outreach and volunteerism. BCYF is the “CSR” of the school.

CRI - CRI recognizes the utmost importance of Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility - that businesses and corporations should realize "Doing Good is not Good Enough" to achieve social equity and environmental preservation. As such, the Institute is involved in the study and documentation of activities, programs and projects in CSR in the Philippines and throughout Asia. The three main programs of CRI include the Annual Philippine Conference on Research in CSR, the CSR Research Network, and Publications (with the SACT Press).

USTGS - USTGS envisions a Graduate School that stands for excellence and innovation and that will be globally identified for the distinction of its programs and quality of its research. USTGS is committed to the formation of scholars and high level professionals who are ethical, competent, compassionate and committed to the service of the Church, the Nation and the Global Community.

UST RCCESI - The UST Research Cluster on Cultural, Educational and Social Issues is a result of the merging of three research centers in UST: the UST Research Cluster on Cultural, Educational and Social Issues (RCCESI), Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD) and the Center for Intercultural Studies (CIS) in June 2008. The mission of the Cluster is best summarized in the statement: “KNOW WELL, THINK WELL, RESEARCH WELL."

MAP – MAP’s members include CEOs, COOs, top management practitioners from the largest local and multinational companies operating in the Philippines, top management educators and government officials. MAP’s mission is to promote management excellence through sharing of best management practices; educational activities that enhance the knowledge and skills of management practitioners and educators nationwide through learning forums and discussions; training and development programs that produce professional managers; networking and building alliances among its members for exploring and sharing business opportunities; and advocacy for reforms that help shape a brighter future for the Philippines.

CSR RESEARCH

NETWORK (CRN)

CRI includes the CSR Research Network as one of its main programs. The CRN is vital in furthering the CSR Research agenda in the Philippines and throughout Asia as it is composed of select group of universities and other tertiary institutions interested in advancing CSR Research. These institutions can be considered as venues for Research, Teacher Training, and Case Research. The program developed from the initial efforts of tertiary institutions, the CRI and the UST RCCESI in BCYF’s “Case Writing Program”. The CRN promises to be an endeavor filled with exciting possibilities of achieving CSR Research goals for all institutions involved.

The ISED is a Department of the BCYF that aims to be part of the solution in addressing social problems by applying entrepreneurial principles.
