From the President

On behalf of the entire Georgia Tech community, welcome to the second annual National MBE Manufacturers Summit 2017. The inaugural Summit last year brought attendees from 19 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C. We are pleased that you chose to participate in this year’s Summit, supporting our vision to build a national manufacturing ecosystem that is diverse, innovative, and competitive.

Georgia Tech has a rich history in manufacturing. Our research programs develop and remain at the forefront of new trends and technologies. Our industry outreach leads the nation in providing innovation, technical assistance, and training. Georgia Tech offers personal assistance to small, medium, and large manufacturers locally, statewide, and nationally, helping industries achieve or maintain success while strengthening one of the main components of our economy.

Manufacturing is woven into the fabric of Georgia Tech. Since the 1950s when our engineers helped farmers implement new agricultural technologies, Georgia Tech has been at the forefront of helping industry. The timeless quest of “Creating the Next” is never far from the minds of Georgia Tech students, faculty, researchers, and staff. That’s because working today to anticipate and meet the demands of the future is a Georgia Tech standard.

Your participation in the Summit demonstrates your commitment to “Creating the Next Global Manufacturing Community.” This event will give you an opportunity to share new innovative strategies, learn the latest in technology, and network with colleagues. I encourage you to take full advantage of this day. Georgia Tech is committed to boosting the continuum of learning, keeping your workforce competitive globally, and partnering with you to create a brighter future for individuals, companies, and your community.

Sincerely,

G. P. “Bud” Peterson President

From the Program Director

On behalf of the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), the MBDA Advanced Manufacturing and Business Center Network, Georgia Tech, our staff and volunteers, I’d like to personally welcome you to the 2nd National MBE Manufacturers Summit 2017.

It’s so hard to believe that over a year has passed since our inaugural National MBE Manufacturers Summit! With attendees from 19 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, DC, the first Summit set a pretty high bar for years to come. I want to thank everyone for the tremendous amount of support we continue to receive as we execute the vision of building a national ecosystem of Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) manufacturers, partners, and

stakeholders. Our goal for each Summit is to make connections for new business opportunities as well as to bring you unique information and experiences that you can take back and implement in your company. It is our hope that this year’s Summit meets that goal.

The National MBE Manufacturers Summit 2017 is the outgrowth of a major initiative by MBDA to focus on MBE manufacturers specifically, as our nation focusses on manufacturing in general. As a result, MBDA has established four MBDA Advanced Manufacturing Centers in Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit and San Antonio to assist MBE manufacturers with implementing advanced manufacturing; improving technology infrastructures; securing capital and business opportunities; and building a better manufacturing operation.

As you move through this day, be engaged! Listen for the nuggets of information you may get from our speakers; think about how you can be more innovative; participate in our interactive connection activities; meet at The Gathering Spot to build new relationships; learn how you can improve your cybersecurity; check out the Poster Walk of MBEs who have solved problems in the area of innovation; learn about Industry 4.0 and the Smart Factory, and have fun with our Innovation Pods.

We thank our sponsors who see and support the vision of the Atlanta MBDA Advanced Manufacturing Center and took a chance on something that has never been accomplished. We applaud you for your willingness to step outside the box. We also thank our staff, volunteers, supporting partners, MBEs, and corporate executives who have given their time and talent to make this Summit a reality.

Lastly, I’d like to thank each of you for attending the 2nd annual National MBE Manufacturers Summit 2017 and bringing your expertise and enthusiasm to this gathering. As leaders, you have the vision, the knowledge, the wherewithal and the experience to help us pave the way into the future. We could not have accomplished this without your support and leadership.

Best wishes!
