After I went to ballet with my family, I knew I wanted to be a professional dancer a My mom and dad let me take ballet classes. I started with two classes each week. Soon, I was caking classes every day.

I started classes classed called ballet"en pointe." This class uses special shoes called poince shoes. With pointe shoes, a dancer ca)1 stand all the way on her toes. It's not easy. Sometimes my feet would get very sore.

I joined a special program for young dancers when I was 15. It was for students who wanted co dance as a career. I learned so much!

I got my first job with a professional dance company when I was 18. It was a small role, but I did get to be in some shows. Sixmonths later, I earned a larger role in the company.

The prize is.named after /.>.lfred Nob.el. He was a famous scientist and inventor. He invented dynamite. Nobel made a lot of money from his inven_tions, but he felt bad thardynamite was used to hurt people. After l)e died, he left money in his will co begin the Nobel Prize.

The Nobel Foundation is based in Sweden. The prizes are decided by committees. Each committee is made of experts and scholars. Different universities in Sweden host these committees. Even being one of the committee members is an honor.

Each December, an awards ceremony is held in Oslo, Norway for the Nobel Peace Prize and in Stockholm, Sweden for all other prizes. Each of the laureates usually gives a speech the week before the ceremony. Then. at the ceremony on the 10th of December, laureates are awarded a medal, a diploma and money.

All of the medals are coated in gold wich a picture of Alfred Nobel on che franc. A diploma is a paper chat says the reason che prize was awarded. The money is usually worth about one million dollars. The money is not the most important part. The real prize is the honor of winning the award.

Trouble on the Marsh

There were problems on the marsh. Officer Snodgrass the snail was the only police officer. He was very slow.

·one .d<;1y,.Fabian the frog hopped qver to Snodgrass._ "I can't ?ee the flies because of that beaver dam," he said.

Two weeks later, Snodgrass looked at the dam.

"Do you have a permit for this dam?'' he asked Bernadette the beaver.

"Permit!? I don't need a permit!" said Bernadette. She slapped her tail on the marsh.

Soon, a group of angry animals came along. 'What is going on here?'' asked Snodgrass.

'Without that dam, the bears would eat us!" said Topo the turtle.

'We would wash away!" said Oona the opossum.

·wow," said Snodgrass.

Snodgrass went into his shell to look at his law books. He found one law that might fix the problem. He came ouc of his shell. "It is time for a vote," he told the animals.

Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most famous leaders in history. He was born in India in 1869. His parents were leaders where he was raised.

afford food. The U.S. would have to step in to help the country

recover.

Each of the laureates usually gives a speech the week before the ceremony. Then. at the ceremony on the 10th of December. laureates are awarded a medal, a diploma and money.
