Process comparison two type of animation:-

Traditional Animation

Traditional animation need cels and background created separately; computer

animation doesn’t. According to animator Jan Eric Nyström, background drawn hand created

much like as a scenery painting. Animator attracts character in relation of background.

Every frame is drawn and then change on a cel , that is a thin, transparent plastic sheet. The

sheets allow for a limited number of drawings to be used in multiple ways and in

combination, thus cutting down the amount of drawing required. Each cel is then

photographed until the film is shot.

Below are steps of drawn animation process:

1. The idea / story structure

2. The Storyboard

3. Sound recorded

4. Analyze sound length in number of frame

5. Sound analysis entered on dope sheets

6. Layout for scene drawn up

7. Director uses layout and dope sheet to plan movement and timing

9. Movement painting on paper

10. Complete drawing entered on dope sheet

11. Movement drawings tested on line tester

12. Correct painting and timing

13. Trace movement drawing onto cells

14. Paint in color cell or color

15. Cells and background come together

16. Cells and background combine in film

17. Exposed negative delivered to laboratory to process

18. Sound and pictures edited

19. Soundtrack mixed in dub studio

20. Negative to lab for cutting with cut print and final sound

The diagram summarizes the traditional process of the production of an animated film.

For techniques of cut out animation, sand and painted over glass, and others. See separate

articles. Illustrated part duties has evolved from need divide the work among

others person with different skills so that time taken to make a film is commercially

viable.

Steps 1, 2 and 3 place base film and provide, in 4 and 5, material where film can be

organized. The animation director 6 takes rule information time in dope sheet

and picture planning of the layout 7 per scene and start movement painting.

While background 8 finalized as a separate strand, , the main burden of the film such as

the animated drawing of the action, works its way through a process of refinement 10 and

11 to 12. Once movement paintings satisfactory, they pass to workers cels

that breed them in color on transparent acetate 13 and 14. The Cels and background

paper united 15, and every scene checked carefully before it approve to camera. The

Camera operator reads from the dope sheet the background, cels and and camera

move requires every frame as shoot it 16. The Film go the laboratory to

develop and print 17, and the printed scenes are edited fight against against the sound 18

to produce the cutting copy (or”printing work”). When all component sound tracks have

been similarly fitted to the picture, they mixed together 19 into a master sound track.

Roll negative now go with picture cut, copies to be edited match it, a properly graded

final print is made 21. As a print with a combined sound track, this can be projected as

film. For TV and video, it is usual to transfer from a separate mute print and the sound

master.

Production systems use another computer in point where traditional process takes over by

computer work. For some, every level after initial planning was done by animators

work in computer; to another, only dye animation drawn traditional made digitally

Animation director take rule information time and picture planning layout for

Cels and background paper united and every scene checked carefully before it passes

to camera.

Camera operator reads from background paper ,cels and camera move requires

every frame when he shooting it.

Films go the laboratory to develop and print.

The printed scenes are edited against the sound to produce the cutting copy (or” work

When all component songs has similar attach to picture, they mixed together into a

single master soundtrack

The negative rolls now go with the picture cutting copy to be edited to match it.

From deduction negative a properly grading final print is made.

As a print with a combined sound track this can be projected as film.

Advantages of Computer Generated 2D Animation.

According to Jesse Cordtz, animator and operations manager of HieroGraphics

Entertainment, an animation firm stationed in Boise, Idaho, two from largest advantages

of using 2D computer animation in a project was realism and speed

computer animation can bring a project. For example, once an image is created in the

animation program, it can be stored there for later use; it doesn't have to be "redrawn" or

recreated. For shows produced weekly, this saves a great deal of time. While the initial

output to create the product is steep, the later episodes of a production go faster, because

the key images have already been created.

Computer can enables an artist to just press a few buttons and Press! The drawings are

done with just a few skilled in computer artist. Example is animators are using tracing

and coloring frames by hand (traditional use) can be replaced.

Computer can produce an “in between” a more difficult procedure to be handled

manually. The life of an artist a little easier. Below are the examples of in between.

At the same time, Computer Generated 2D Animation get the bonus of the undo button.

At the same time this animation can copied as much as specifying the number of repeats

required.

Page 6

In between

(CBAA3103) 2D ANIMATION

The artist who drew with pencil and paper can now use keyboard and mouse also pen

tablet or touch screen to create shapes and images in computer.

Computer animation is a process that brings picture to life by making them appear to

move. This is done through animated computer generated 2D animation which are used

to present information in an interesting way or for pure entertainment. It is one of the

essential tools that computer needs so as to enable to complete work faster and in an

easier way.

To draw that have trouble painting, computer can draw up easily with

computer animation that will experience perfectly things. In poor

lighting, computer can doing paint; it can shade and conduct light calculations so

that object will be having perfect and stable light effects. This will give one perfect image

appearance.

Some laboratory experiments are dangerous if carried out practically. There’s no need to

put lives in danger because the Computer animation can simulate what will happen.

Computer animation software will give capacity in result objects which moves that have

gotten from materials pictorial which includes; pictures and maps. They can create an

impression of life and give a clear visual impression.

Computer animation, also often addressed as CGI (computer-generated image)

animation, uses digital equipment and software to produce 2D. It uses moving images

digitally created, instead of using fully hand-drawn images, to make an animated film.

The popular computer animation software includes Adobe Flash and After Effects for 2D

animation. Examples of movies that use computer animation include "The Iron Giant”,

“South Park", “The Ren & Stimpy”, "Rugrats," and An American Tail” etc.

Examples of 2D Animation Software

Adobe Flash Professional

Flash, a program is introduced by Macromedia in mid 1990s and achieved by Adobe in 2005,

was a design platform used to create flow enthusiastic for websites and various other documents

type. Although Flash is not popular with website developers and webmaster  it was because of

Flash's difficulty attracting search engine bots, there are many advantages to using it as a web

design tool to produce interactive games, business presentations and flashy websites.

Advantages:

If find rich software with features used to be doing content mean then Adobe Flash was answer.

It is favorite’s animation industry and equally well works for platforms like smart phones,

Tablets and TV. It presents effective work flow environment and give enhanced control

layers. The cost is even though in higher side, especially increase grading costs. The plus point

of using Flash is that it lets the animator integrate many sophisticated effects to the animation

being created.

It animated popular tool that was part of adobe software suite. Flash can manipulate

vector and flow support audio bidirectional and video. It is also compatible with most web

browsers, mobile phones and other electronic devices such as MP3 players. Flash is compatible

with Windows, Mac, OSX, Linux and Solaris. The examples of flash movies are The Ren &

Stimpy Show, often simply referred to as Ren & Stimpy, is an American animated television

series, created by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi.

network, games, mobile devices, and training applications. In 2005, Toon Boom was

awarded Primetime Emmy in Engineering

Advantages:

My personal favorite, this software was a tool that is good to create animation Flash. It has really

cool few features such as techniques rigging flexible, parallel Xsheet and Timeline, various types

of vector effects and capacity for export to different formats such as SWF, FLV and QuickTime

make it love tool to animate. Usage cameras create environment 3D in software 2D, adding

drop shadows and tweening was few features that is most enhanced Toon Boom. The

environment provides very like traditional animation, hence, animator enjoy even more.

CreaToon is a program to create animation systems 2D written for Microsoft windows. It was

acquitted by Androme NV with version 3.0 was licensed Freeware and no longer developed

into. The program specializes in animation style cutout.

Advantages:

CreaToon was software solution that is strong for PC create animation 2D in section style.

For example, it containing a little fairly good compositing features. Downside was preview

window, that a little small, but it delivers editing real time and previewed. Artwork created

in other packages, and then import into CreaToon.  South Park Animation was used this

software.

It is not animated package based on cel in traditional sense , it has limited ink and tools paint, It

have decent few features, consider price, including tools tweening and a camera various aircraft,

with object can place during axis-z in space 3D. This software used to join bitmap and vector

graphic, edited in real time and flexible for pictorial style.

The best thing on CreaToon is that it is available for free. We need unlock software to

using this program. It works on Windows operating system. Although, a bit stagnant in

producing newer versions or enhancing the tool, CreaToon is still software worth trying for those

who want to explore animation tools!

Mixed Media

Mixed media is among animated types. Animated various range type from traditional

approach of latest computer technology. Mixed inclined media to consult a visual arts

work which combines various visual arts media that is by different tradition. And combining

visual art with non-visual elements (such as recorded sound, for example) or with art

elements the rest (such as literature, drama, dance, motion graphics, music, or interactivity).

Page 20

(CBAA3103) 2D ANIMATION

Exaggeration

Charm characters animation is they should not become real. All about them intended to cheer

up audience. Character movements, exaggeration, expressions and reactions were proven a

device keep entertaining audience. Example an animation below as the Stimpy’s clock is ringing

then the blue lightning is blinking. And also same with the second picture below. It also shows

blinking star when the horse kick the Stimpy’s head.

Page 21

(CBAA3103) 2D ANIMATION

Anticipation

This is the clue that characters give the viewers something is about to happen. Example; when

cousin’s Ren make his eye’s bigger. Same goes to Ren. That prepares the audience to the next

thing that is about to happen.

Movement

Page 22

(CBAA3103) 2D ANIMATION

Animations do not make paintings transfer. It in essence, draws movement. What animator does

“in between”. How image or painting is being moved, more important than what steps.

When picture animation techniques use forms a book, it is in a state of that detrimental because it

is may be to use only stationary image because example and what happen “in between” can get a

little or have no visual demonstration except written explanation.

Illusion

Page 23

(CBAA3103) 2D ANIMATION

Animation involves the process of assembling a sequence of still images to create an illusion of

movement. The quality of the sequence is more important than the quality of images.

The Iron Giant (1999)

Page 24

(CBAA3103) 2D ANIMATION

Cast: James Gammon, Christopher McDonald

Director: Brad Bird

Producer: Des McAnuff, Pete Townshend

Screenwriter: Brad Bird, Ted Hughes, Tim McCanlies

The Iron Giant is a 1999 animated science fiction action drama film utilizing both traditional

animation and computer animation. In1986, rock musician Pete Townshend became interested

in writing "a modern song-cycle in the manner of Tommy", and chose Ted Hughes' The Iron

Man as his subject. Three years later, The Iron Man: A Musical album was released. The same

year Pete Townshend produced a short film set to the album single "A Friend is a Friend"

featuring The Iron Man in a mix of stop frame animation and live action directed by Matt

Forrest. In 1993, a stage version was mounted at London’s Old Vic. Des McAnuff, who had

adapted Tommy with Townshend for the stage, believed that The Iron Man could translate to the

screen, and the project was ultimately acquired by Warner Bros.

The Iron Giant used Animo software. It released at 6th August 1999. And time running about

86 minutes. Also got many award. Examples are The Hugo Awards nominated The Iron

Giant for Best Dramatic Presentation, while the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of

America honored Brad Bird and Tim McCanlies with the Nebula Award nomination. The British

Academy of Film and Television Arts gave the film a Children's Award as Best Feature Film. In

addition The Iron Giant won nine Annie Awards and was nominated for another six

categories, with another nomination for Best Home Video Release at The Saturn

Awards. IGN ranked The Iron Giant as the fifth favorite animated film of all time in a list

published in 2010. The genre animations are Science fiction and Fantasy. And also War

theme.

Film Description:

A boy's best friend is his robot in this animated adventure from Brad Bird, best known for his TV

work on such series as The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and The Critic. Set in 1957, The Iron

Giant focuses on Hogarth (voice of Eli Marienthal), an imaginative nine-year-old boy who

Page 25

(CBAA3103) 2D ANIMATION

daydreams of alien invasions and doing battle with Communist agents. One day, Hogarth hears a

local fisherman talk about something that surpasses anything he could dream up: a fifty-foot

robot that fell from the sky into a nearby lake. Needless to say, Hogarth's mom, Annie (voice of

Jennifer Aniston) finds this a little hard to swallow, but when Hogarth finds the robot (voice of

Vin Diesel) and fishes him out of the water, his pal Dean (voice of Harry Connick Jr.), a beatnik

sculptor who also runs a junkyard, offers to help by hiding the robot with his salvage. A

government agent named Kent Mansley (voice of Christopher McDonald) soon gets wind that

there's a mechanical invader of unknown origins in the neighborhood and wants to wipe out the

potential threat. However, the robot (which loves to eat metal and is learning to talk) turns out to

be friendly, and the boy in turn tries to teach his new pal the ways of humans. The Iron Giant is

loosely based on the book The Iron Man by late British poet Ted Hughes, previously adapted for

the stage by rock musician Pete Townshend, who executive produced the film.

The keys to Animation.

They have a few key elements in animation in order to produce a good animated work.

Illusion

Animation involves the process of assembling a sequence of still images to create an illusion of

movement. Animated film art in action and this is what makes animation unique.

Illusion 1:-

Page 26

(CBAA3103) 2D ANIMATION

Illusion 2:-

Anticipation

This is indication that characters give spectators which something will happen below.

For example, character eye can follow a disturb bee. This provide audience for thing next that

will happen.

Screenwriter: Pam Brady, Trey Parker, Matt Stone

South Park was animated American a sitcom created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone for

Comedy Central television network. Intended for mature audiences, the show has become

famous for its crude language and dark, surreal humor that lampoons a wide range of topics.

Continuously story revolves around four sons; StanMarsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman

and Kenny McCormick and their bizarre adventures in and around the titular Colorado town.

Animated style show inspired by section cartoons paper  cut out made by Terry

Gilliam for Monty Python's Flying Circus of which Parker and Stone has become lifelong

fans. Construction paper and traditional cutout stop motion techniques have been used in

original animated shorts and in pilot episode. Scenes next were generated by computer

animation, provide an appearance that is same of original when required one fraction of the

time to produce.

The South Park was used Creatoon 2.5 software. The animation genres are black comedy,

off color humor, surreal humor, satire. They have 16 seasons and 256 episodes. The popular

theme is love.

Page 29

Film Description:

The most tasteless third graders on television graduate to the big screen, as Trey Parker and Matt

Stone expand their animated series with foul-mouthed humor that might breach the boundaries of

basic cable. In the small Colorado town of South Park, good-natured Stan Marsh, slightly

neurotic Kyle Broflovski, fat and petulant Eric Cartman, and perpetually doomed Kenny

McCormick are psyched for the premiere of the first feature film from flatulent Canadian TV

performers Terrance and Phillip, entitled "Asses of Fire." The movie is rated R, but that's not

about to stop the boys from sneaking into the theater. However, when the boys' language gets

bluer by the minute after seeing the film, their parents and school administrators decide that

something must be done. Kyle's mother comes up with the ideal solution: blame Canada.

Terrance and Phillip end up in jail for corrupting America's youth, while the Canadian Air Force

retaliates with an air strike targeting the Baldwin brothers. The boys soon organize a children's

underground resistance force to free Terrance and Phillip before they can be executed;

meanwhile, in a sensitive subplot exploring relationship issues, we're permitted an inside look at

and combining images from many sources leading to incredible living and moving subjects on

Film Description:

Based on the popular Nickelodeon TV series Rugrats, this is the first full-length feature animated

movie to star the little tots. It's the story of diaper-clad kids, told from a baby's point- of-view,

and they were one of the hottest-selling toy franchises of the late '90s. The film features a

hilarious musical number in the hospital nursery, where newborns have the voices of major rock

stars that include Jakob Dylan (Bob Dylan's son), Iggy Pop, Lou Rawls, Lisa Loeb, and Patti

Smith, to name a few. The story escalates when self-proclaimed leader Tommy Pickles is thrust

into an impossible situation with the birth of his new brother, Dil Pickles. This new kid is

grabbing all the attention and won't stop crying. With the help of other toddlers Lil and Phil,

Tommy decides that the baby should be returned to the hospital for fixing. They all hop on their

little wagon and take a high-speed ride straight into the deep woods where they realize they're

lost. Chased around by animals (or so they think), the Rugrats clan must get home in one piece.

Other celebrity voices include Whoopi Goldberg and The Rocky Horror Picture Show's Tim

Curry, as well as Saturday Night Live's Andrea Martin and David Spade.

Animation involves the process of assembling a sequence of still images to create an illusion of

movement. The art of animated film is in the action and this is what makes animation unique.
