Clean Portable Water for Melikin
This project aims to identify hard core poor villages that do not get clean water at Melikin area in Balai Ringin District, about 110km east of Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. The villages do not get clean water as a result of destruction to their water catchment.
Appropriate & cost effective water filtration system that do not require power source and incur very low operational maintenance will be fitted at incoming water source for selected villages. Villagers with the required skills will be engaged to installed simple infrastructure for the water filtration system. Training will be provided to villagers to maintain and service the water filters that are expected to have a working lifespan of 10 years.
This project hopes to alleviate inconsistent supply and polluted water to poor communities. This project will provide sufficient clean water to improve sanitation for the said communities and reduce incidences of illness associated with poor hygiene from lack of clean water. A total direct beneficiary is 671.

RYLA
RYLA 2014 KUCHING was jointly hosted by 4 Rotary Clubs, namely, Rotary Club of Kuching, Rotary Club of Kuching Central, Rotary Club of Kuching South and Rotary of Kuching Jaya.
Kuching Central was assigned to lead the event of RYLA with assistance from RYLA 3310 District Chair pp Chandran Pillay camp commandant and his team members past presidents and Rotarians from Johore plus 18 facilitators.
A theme “UNLEASHING THE POTENTIAL FUTURE LEADERS” was chosen by the host clubs.
On behalf of RYLA organizing committee we thank puan Hajjah Salbiah principal of SM SAINS
KUCHING for permission to use the campus including the dormitories for the boarding. That helped in cost saving. In return we gave 35 Interactors from the school Interact Club free of charge.
There were 4 seminars presented with topics as follows : -1. Who Needs a Hero - by Rtn Major Francis2. Positive Leadership - by pp Chai Ko Jee3. Rotary and You - by Rtn Dato Stev Ng4. Rotary and the Community - by PDG Datuk Haji Zainie5. IQ/EQ Conflict Management - by DGN Michael Yee
There were four obstacle course :
1. Tyre Race – There were 16 teams with 8 members each. The game was to move 9 pieces of used truck tyres from one location to the next and to complete the task within the shortest time. The objective of the game was them to exercise Teamwork spirit.
2. Caterpillar Crawl – each team had to finish crawl over underneath without contacting the net.
3. Racing through obstacles – team members had to negotiate through piles of tyre obstacle in between the cargo containers.
4. Built the tallest flag tower with limited materials available at site. This contest was for the participants to apply their creativity skills, team spirit to build the tallest tower.
Talent Show Final was the evening’s most exciting event with 16 Teams performing their best to win. The judges panel were, PDG Dtk Haji Zainie, District First Lady Hajjah Norzan Bujang and president of FT Labuan Rotaract Club.
The show was full of fun and entertaining. The audience were impressed withe the intelligent of Interactors and Rotaractors they produced such a high standard of sketch.
At the end of the performance each team briefed the judges the objective of their theme flag.
