Welcome! It’s Tuesday 3/11/14

WARM UP:1. What is an ecosystem?

2. What is the difference between a PRODUCER and a PRIMARY CONSUMER?

• Please record your responses at www.goo.gl/vta7d1

Page 3: 29.Ocean Food Webs

The food web show the interactions between organisms in a meadow ecosystem

• Which organism gets food energy directly from both plants and animals?

Page 4: 29.Ocean Food Webs

How are estuaries connected to oceanic organisms?

A. Estuaries provide a nursery grounds for oceanic organisms

B. Estuaries provide sunlight for oceanic organisms.

C. Estuaries provide primary food for oceanic organisms.

D. Estuaries provide excess dissolved oxygen for oceanic organisms

HW: What’s for lunch or dinner?

Create your own food chain based on a recent meal.

Label each item in the meal, diagram where the food item comes from

Label the different trophic levels

This is a HOMEWORK assignment due Friday 3/14/14

Here is the Energy Web:

Suns Energy

Plants, Algae & Photoplankton (“Producers” - do photosynthesis)

Animals & Zooplankton

(“Consumers” - Eat to get energy)

Types of Animals in the Ocean• Plankton = Floating

animal (usually one to a few cells)

• Nekton = Swimming, maneuvering animals (fish, sharks, seals, etc.)

• Benthos = Bottom dweller (on or in the seafloor)

Plankton

Nekton

Benthos (ex. Halibut)

Popplet: Create an Ocean Food Web• You need 3 plankton, 3 nekton, and 3

benthos in your food web.• You also need at least one

TERRESTRIAL (a.k.a. land) organism that eats something in your Ocean food web.

• This is due by Friday 3/14/14
