Dear WCC Family,
As we move into the spring months,
there are lots of exciting changes coming
to Woodbury Community Church. After
working for more than a year - which
included dozens of interviews, hours of
meetings, visiting various churches, meet-
ing with a graphic designer, and taking
comprehensive looks at our print and
web media - our communication team
(Jerry Vogler, Jeff Bauman, Roger Proch,
Holly Price, Jim Nygren) has finished an
important part of their task. The new
woodburycommunitychurch.com website
went live just before Easter. A beautiful
new 24-page welcome brochure and
revamped Sunday program will start
being used on Sunday, April 10. When
you look at the website and the print
pieces you will notice that people from
WCC are featured prominently through-
out the site. We wanted to communicate
authenticity throughout our pieces, and
appreciate the hours of volunteer work
that Ali Geier put into taking our photos
and that Shane McNamara put into
putting together our website. This has
clearly been a group project.
One of the first things that was accom-
plished by the communication team was
to put together a team to pick out our
new church database and check-in
system. By now, many of you have begun
to utilize our Breeze Communication
System, called “MyWCC.” This system
allows you to quickly and securely find
contact information for WCC attendees,
to register for events, to track your
giving, and to check your children into
church each week. Thank you to Joan
Haugen, Liz Nygren, Darrin Geier, Liz
Nelson and Linda O’Keefe for the work
that you did to help get this system up
and running. All church attendees were
sent an e-mail earlier this year explaining
how you can get the most out of this
system. If you have not set up your
personal profile, please take the time to
do so this month. Call the church office if
you need any help on how to get started
with this.
We are very excited to announce a new
Welcome Center that will launch on
Sunday, April 10. On that Sunday you will
notice that our greeters will move from
the sanctuary doors to the front doors in
an effort to better connect with guests to
WCC. The Welcome Center will be
located just below the TV monitor that
scrolls announcements each week. It is a
place that, we hope, will bless our guests
and also be the go-to place for regular
attendees to find out more information
about upcoming events and to register
for events. We are looking for friendly
people to help staff our Welcome Center
each week. If this is something that you
would be willing to do, please let us
know by either e-mailing or calling the
church office, or stopping by the
Welcome Center.

From our Pastor continued…
April will also bring the filming of a new video that we will
use on our website and on social media to help share the
story of Woodbury Community Church. Our own Steve
Holm, who is a filmmaker by trade has volunteered to
help lead this project.
We would love for you to share the story of what God is
doing at WCC with friends or family. Feel free to pick up
a welcome brochure and use it to share about what God
is doing here. Once the video is produced, share it on
your social media pages. Take a look at the various pages
of our website. You’ll find great information about regis-
tering for small groups, upcoming events (including several
prayer events in April and May), our Passover Seder meal,
an upcoming Men’s Ministry Game night, the War Room
Family Movie event, and more! Thank you all who have
helped make these changes possible! We are excited
about the next chapter of WCC, as we continue in our
unchanging mission to honor God by making more
disciples for Jesus Christ.
In Him,
Pastor Brian

There are some exciting things
happening with Share Because
You Care! Another church has
contacted us about joining
WCC in this ministry. God is
giving us the opportunity to
grow this ministry and expand
into the independent senior
housing next door, and who
knows (God does!) maybe to
more places where an act of
kindness can bless a life. I am
trying to be patient, but am
having trouble holding back
my excitement.

Woodbury Community Church – April Prayer Guide
By Drew Mattison
Last month, we explored the Prayer of Examen. The goal of this prayer
is to help you notice God in all of life. It is a daily prayer practice that
facilitates reviewing your day in the presence of God. The steps and
some scripture references discussed in March included silence and
gratitude (Acts 17:28; James 1:17), searching (Psalm 139:23; Romans
8:1), reviewing and awareness, talking with Jesus, abiding (John 15:5;
Ephesians 2:16-19; Hebrews 13:5), and closing (Matthew 6:9-15). This
month we will explore a new prayer practice, but I’d encourage you all
to continue working through the Prayer of Examen as well. In April, the
new prayer practice is prayerful reading of Scripture. While we all read the Scriptures, this month we will
focus on doing so through a new lens.
First, it is important to hear the word of God. As Romans 10:17 states, “So faith comes through hearing, and
hearing through the word of Christ.” I encourage you to either read aloud, or invite a prayer partner, small
group leader, spouse, or friend to read the scriptures aloud with you. As you select a passage to read, search
for something that is 10 – 15 verses long. During the first reading of the passage, ask yourself and pay atten-
tion to the Holy Spirit and ask the Spirit to highlight a key word or phrase from the passage that stands out
to you. After the initial reading, pause a few minutes and reflect on the reading making note of anything that
jumped off the page.
After the initial reading, read the same passage again. If you are doing this in a group setting, invite another
member of the group to read the passage for the second time. During the second reading, ask God if he is
inviting you into something through this passage. Focus on the concept of invitation. It may be an invitation
to dwell in the presence of God. It may be an invitation to share the hope that we have in Christ. It may be
an invitation to respond to a call God has for you. After the second reading, again, take a few minutes to
listen for what God may be inviting you into.
Finally, proceed with a third reading. Again, if you are doing this in a group context, have a different group
member read the third time. During the third reading, ask the Holy Spirit if there is a leading to respond to
the word or phrase, or the invitation that came to light in the initial readings. Again, search your heart and
the leading of the Spirit to see if there is a response that is appropriate.
For some suggestions, explore this practice of prayerful reading of the Scriptures with some of the following
passages: Psalm 139; Ephesians 3:14-20; John 17:8-20; and Jeremiah 29:1-14. Again, the goal of Woodbury
Community Church is to be unified in prayer. As you explore these prayer practices individually, in your
small groups and in your families, please share stories of how God is speaking to you and you are responding
to God as you commune with him. As you share your stories, it is an encouragement to us all!
