Lead The Way‘I, Tertius, the one writing this letter for Paul,

send my greetings.’ Romans 16:22 NLT

So you’d like to be a good role model? You want people to notice you’re different from the rest? Think you’re the one to lead the way? Contrary to popular myth, leadership isn’t about who can shout the most or get the job done most quickly; leadership is only properly done if you treat people like people. Like Paul. We know little about Paul’s ‘management style’ but we do know that he wasn’t about pushing others down so he could stay at the top.

A letter to the Roman church gives us an idea of how he wasn’t afraid to give others a chance. He had a guy called Tertius on team (we know this because he’s the one who wrote down Paul’s thoughts in his letters to the Romans when, late in his life, Paul had gone partly blind.) Timothy, Paul’s protégé, is often mentioned, not as a fellow colleague or dogsbody, but as a dear friend. And then there’s Gaius, known as ‘[Paul’s] host and...host to the whole Church.’ (Romans 16:23 NLT) Paul lifted up everyone around him in order that the Church could be strengthened. Do you want to lead the way? Lesson one, then, is to think of others as much as you think of yourself. Surround yourself with people whose talents complement yours and build them up. Are you thinking about the transition into high school? If you and your child would like a tour of the high school campus please contact Brenton Luchow in the Admin Office to arrange a time that is convenient for you.HRIS Primary DebatingFive Year 6 students gave an excellent personal effort in the recent HRIS Debating Gala day. It is the first time our school has entered an inter-school debating competition. The day was held on Thursday, 22 August at Hunter Valley Grammar School with schools attending from as far afield as Tamworth

and Scone.Jared Walton, Jakob Brooks, James Kornhaber, Liam Gough and Jason Cole prepared and delivered some excellent arguments to win their round – a great effort. The students had to argue that “Australian middle-class children in the 21st Century are spoilt” and they argued convincingly. What a topic! We are all proud of their efforts. Congratulations team.- Mr Tim Cooper (Year 6 teacher)Year 10 Snow TripLast week, 78 year 10 students, teachers and supervisors headed to Smiggins, Perisher for what turned out to be the bumper snow week of the season!!! The students certainly received a baptism of fire when conditions on Sunday were less than ideal – wind gusts up to 100km/h and temperature well and truly below zero! For many students, this was their first taste of skiing/boarding and for some their first sighting of snow. It basically never stopped snowing the whole time we were on the mountain.

As staff, we are very proud of the way the students conducted themselves and received comments from the general public about the students attitudes and manners. They represented themselves, their families and their school so well – they certainly reflected the moto - “What you say and what you do, reflects who you are.” Every staff member on the ski trip made a positive comment about the year group. They are terrific – and I’m honoured to be their co-ordinator. Thanks to everyone who kept our safety in their prayers – I know I appreciated it.- Mrs Bennetts (Year 10 Coordinator)

donated goods, but will return to your child, and your family 1000 fold, over and over, knowing that they have put together something special for one of God’s children, in a part of the world that they might never get to, to do something wonderful for someone who cannot say Thank you.Operation Christmas Child is run by Samaritans Purse, and has been operating since 1993. Since then, there has been more than 100 million children worldwide, granted a single “shoe box”, made with love. 100 million children who live in countries much different to ours, who have been touched by the generosity of others. We invite you to join us – below are a few links to the Operation Christmas Child website – all details are on the website, suggestions on what to pack, as well as what not to pack. I am available if you have questions on what you may need to do, but the outline is simple:Something to love – a cuddly toy – something handmade is perfect – most of these children have never had their own cuddly?Something for school – how about a pencil case, with lead pencils, colours, erasers, sharpeners, scissors, and a lined book?Something for hygiene – throw in a few toothbrushes, a flannel and a cake of soap, perhaps a comb. Many children have never had a toothbrush, something that we take for granted!Something to wear – underwear, dress, shorts and a top – even a pair of thongs!Something for fun – a tennis ball, a simple puzzle or game, a skipping rope, or a doll? And finally, something special – this may be a handmade card or necklace from your child, a pair of sunglasses or a great carry bag for when the box disintegrates.http://operationchristmaschild.org.au/http://www.samaritanspurse.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Cambodia_2011.pdfBoxes will need to be returned to me at school no later than October 20th. This is so I can get the boxes to the Central Coast Distribution Centre for shipping to Sydney and then to their final destination. I hope that you will like to participate in this project with us.Should you require further information, please do
