EYP 3 Way Conference

EYP section of RBKIA conducted a 3 Way Conference on !8th January 2019 as another way of communicating to

parents and families, the learning experiences of our students in a meaningful and purposeful format.

Three-way conferences involve the student, parents and teacher. Students discuss their learning and

understanding with their parents and teacher, who are responsible for supporting the student through this

process. Students are responsible for reflecting upon work samples they have chosen to share, that have been

previously selected with guidance and support from the teacher and could be from the student’s portfolio.

The student, parents and the teacher collaborate to establish and identify the student’s strengths and areas for

improvement. This may lead to the setting of new goals, with all determining how they can support the

achievement of the goals.

3 Way conference went off very well!!!

EYP K2B Multiple Activities

Early childhood education focuses on children’s development during ages three to six. In this developmental

period the curriculum is ideally designed to concentrate equally on mental, physical, emotional and social

development. Promoting structured physical activity in children at this stage will benefit them throughout their

developmental journey. Since cognitive learning and physical activity go hand-in-hand and reinforce one another

in early childhood development, it is essential for early years schools to adopt a curriculum that emphasizes both

and uses movement to promote and teach cognitive development. Since young children don’t like to sit still for

long periods and respond better to activities that change frequently, early childhood education can benefit and

use time more efficiently from using a movement-based program to teach cognitive skills. Here the K2-B learners

are engaged in a variety of activities to enhance their overall development: activity on skip counting, journey, hot/

cold ( concept), expression through art, PE etc.

PYP For a deeper understanding of the current UOI ‘IMAGES’, we had invited a graphic designer Ms. Pooja Shah as a

guest speaker. She discussed different types of images with the students of Grade 1 and gave them an

opportunity to enhance their creativity by motivating them to make three images on a canvas. It was an enriching

learning experience for the 1st graders as they created a 3D picture of themselves by adding mask, straws and

some fish on their own image, thus making them knowledgeable.

PYP Grade 3 UOI - Force and Motion

Splatter Art:

In Visual Arts the students used force and motion with the help of balloons to create a masterpiece. They dropped the balloon from various heights and experienced the variety of texture created by the amount of force used, using both their hands.

Artwork inspired by Jackson Pollock:

The students had fun exploring with paints. They used brushes and tools to create a non-representational artwork. They experienced how art can be created using force and motion inspired by expressionism artists.

Students of Grade 4 were able to collect 51.3 kg of PET plastic bottles for recycling as a part of taking action for

the unit on Earth. The joint venture with Bisleri International was truly a very good initiative by Grade 4 students.

Grade 4 students went around the school community spreading awareness to reuse and recycle plastic objects

which very well goes with the saying “ We don’t claim to save the planet, but we are going to make it a bit better,

a bit tidier and a bit sustainable.

Students were very enthusiastic in collecting plastic bottles from school, neighbourhood and the local vicinity. The

overall action was effective.

PYP Three way conferences involve the student, teacher and the parent. The students are responsible for leading the conference, and also take responsibility for their learning by sharing the process with their parents. The conference involves the student discussing and reflecting upon samples of work that they have previously chosen to share with their parents. These samples have been selected with guidance and support from the teacher, and from the student’s portfolio. This conference helped our students, parents and the teachers collaborate to establish and identify the student’s progress strengths and areas for improvement. Parents Reflection: Rishabh spoke well and explained me all his portfolio coursework with lots of interest and excitement. Being

new parent in RBK, it gave me great pride to see him speak with confidence Shivani Goyal, parent of Rishabh Goyal. Siddharth is working on his areas of improvement consistently. He feels encouraged at school and is enjoying this grade more than any other grades. We are happy with his progress and the hardwork, patience and diligence shown by his homeroom teachers. Thank you for your efforts Dipankar Ghosh, parent of Siddharth Ghosh. It has been an absolute pleasure to hear Shlok on what he’s learnt so far .I’m especially happy to see the increase in his confidence and in-depth knowledge on the subjects. I applaud the teachers and their technique of ensuring the child has had a holistic understanding of the subjects. Thank you for helping us learn too! Ruchee Anand, parent of Shlok Anand.

PYP CLICK CLICK done that many times, but actually being filmed was the one of a kind of experience for most of

Grade 4B students and teachers. Same shots taken a couple of times and it was an experience one can never

forget. The crew who helped our students were really patient and got our students act the way they wanted to

capture them. Each student was eager to pose in front of the camera, what an experience it was. A real

experience that taught a lot to each one of us.

MYP IAYP Bronze Award Achievers

International Award for Young People has been a very different experience altogether. I have learnt a lot in a

year's time. IAYP was a new program introduced in our school in the year 2017. IAYP is an international award for

young people and consists of three levels; bronze, silver and gold and at the end of each level, we receive a

certificate which definitely shows a lot of weight on a student CV for the university admission. And as it was a

new program, commencing with 9th grade, we were the first batch to have been introduced to it. IAYP consists

of four skills that should be developed in a year's time with the help of a mentor. The four activities are skills,

service, physical activity and adventure. The adventure is been taken care of by the school, but, however, from

the three other activities, we were supposed to do two activities for three months and the other one for six

months and we need to maintain a record book with information about the mentor and small reflection from

every session. I picked drawing and painting as skills, going to an orphanage as service and basketball as physical

activity.

For the adventure trip, we were taken to Khandala and the experience was very thrilling and full of fun. We

trekked and it was a very unique experience as we hiked for a long time through a very difficult track. We also

learnt how to survive in deep forests and mountains with learning different kinds of first aid and techniques to

tie rope. For service, I went to an orphanage with other three friends for three months. We loved every second

we spent there as we loved sharing happiness and love with those 2 to 3-year-old children. We learnt to value

everything we have as we saw what they went through without their parents. And IAYP truly influenced me to

become a better person. For skills, I increased my drawing and painting to a next level with learning different

techniques like charcoal painting, water painting, sketching and much more. I conducted this activity for three

months. For physical activity, I chose basketball and improve my skills for 6 months. These 6 months motivated

me to keep working on my basketball skills and leading my team towards victory. I love the way IAYP has

changed so many various levels and would love to continue with silver and gold level and I am very grateful to

have received a certificate for completing the bronze level.

MYP Reflection on Service Activity

Today, the 21st of January 2019, was the day of our unit initiated Service activity. We had planted different

varieties of Air Purifying plants in small pots during our Christmas Vacations and then nurtured them under the

guidance of our teachers and parents to grow them in healthy conditions. We then conducted a Fund raising

activity through selling these plants to parents and teachers, students and the housekeeping department of our

school to encourage people and make people aware about the importance of these plants in our environment. It

was interesting, and engaging. This was part of our IDU (Interdisciplinary unit) too, with a good cross curricular

link between Science(Topic: Adaptation and habitats) and Individuals and Societies (Topic: Climate and

ecosystems).

Here, we used our organisational, research and creative skills to accomplish this task. We developed a sense of

responsibility as we nurtured and cared for the plants ourselves, and decorated our plants. We researched

carefully to choose the right plant, and were decisive when faced with the choice, with the teachers’ guidance, of

pricing each of the plants. We learnt about the different air purifying plants, and received a hands on experience

on the different methods used to grow a plant. Not only this, but we also prepared for the sale of the plants, and

very professionally manned the stall, making sure each plant was accounted for. Our hard-work was paid for as

we made a good profit to use it for further CAS activities. It was an amazing learning experience, and we are

proud that we could do this environment friendly activity.

We extend thanks to our teachers and parents who helped us achieve this.
