will save more than $750 (based on 2014 fares for Full Fare travel).

Customers travelling in Zone 2 only will still be able to travel for the cheaper Zone 2 fare.

After this change takes effect, Zone 1 passes will no longer be sold because customers can get a Zone 1+2 pass for the same price as a Zone 1 fare. This means that as of 1 January 2015, all myki passes sold will either be Zone 1 + 2, or Zone 2.

Existing Zone 1 + 2 passes will expire on 1 January 2015 and customers will be reimbursed for the remaining Zone 2 portion of their pass. Reimbursement will be in the form of myki money (some exceptions will apply) and this process will start in the weeks after January.

Customers with existing Zone 1 passes will be able to travel into Zone 2 without an additional charge.

We’ll continue to communicate more information about the new fare changes over the coming weeks. For more information click the ‘Fare Changes’ tile on the homepage of The Depot.

Multicultural Express wrapped up with a free community festival at Mentone Station last weekend, following a highly popular four week program of roving musicians on the Frankston line.

Stakeholder Communications Manager, Chris Fletcher, worked behind the scenes to help deliver the program, which is sponsored by Metro and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

“Multicultural Express seeks to celebrate the amazing diversity of communities living along the Frankston line.

“With the support of the City of Kingston, the City of Frankston and a great committee comprised of enthusiastic people from the local community, we kicked off a program of roving musicians on selected Saturday services running South Yarra to Frankston.

“These musicians were drawn from a wide variety of international backgrounds. They received a wonderful reception with many customers singing along, dancing and even jamming with the musicians on their journey.

“Frankston line customers enjoyed a wide range of acts including African percussion, Latin jazz, Flamenco guitar, French accordion, traditional Greek music, Russian ballads, Brazilian samba and Pacific rhythms. They’ve even heard Bolivian pan pipes and home-grown hip hop! “The free festival at Mentone Station capped off a remarkable month and was attended by Minister for Planning and Multicul-tural Affairs (Matthew Guy), Member for Sandringham (Murray Thompson), Mayor of Kingston (Geoff Gledhill) and CEO Metro (Andrew Lezala),” he said.

Quarterly CEO Award goes to Paul Downes

Senior Investigator, Paul Downes, won the CEO Award at the Management Forum on Tuesday. Paul leads the investigation and reporting functions following serious safety breaches on the rail network, which includes interviewing staff and customers, as well as site inspections and examining CCTV footage. His dedication to excellence and acute attention to detail is vital to his main mission, which is to prevent any reoccurrence of dangerous incidents in the future.

The Safety Symposium team, together with the Network Security and Surveillance (NSS) team, have picked up quarterly Executive Awards. The Safety Symposium Team has picked up an Executive Award for their dedication in the preparation and delivery of the recent Safety Symposium held at Melbourne Exhibition Centre. The team assembled a great series of speakers whose powerful message about safety and fatigue resonated with the audience, which included visiting Projects Safety Manager MTR, Steve Howarth.

The NSS Team also collected an Executive Award for their ongoing diligence in protecting our customers, staff and assets. The team, led by Jim Dimitrioski, handles CCTV coverage and works closely with contracted security specialists who patrol railway sidings in an effort to prevent vandalism and graffiti on our trains and infrastructure. The team plays a leading role in our effective response to anti-social behaviour, copper theft, wilful damage and other acts.

Metro was recognised twice at the MTR Grand Awards held recently in Hong Kong.

The MTR Grand Awards ceremony celebrates the very highest achievements from across the MTR rail family.

Marcus Avdyl, Overhead Maintenance Engineer, picked up a Certificate of Merit (Individual).

Marcus, who is the Australasian Railway Association Young Achiever Of The Year, was recognised for his contribution to two major projects.

In working with his colleagues to update the Electrical Networks Overhead Technical Management Plan, he helped to replace many outdated practices with cost efficient, safe and non-labour intensive practices.

He also worked with a small but highly skilled project team to

introduce a new bracket fitting for rail-tram crossings that increases the maximum speed of passing trains, potentially saving millions of dollars in OPR penalties.

Meanwhile, four members of the Operations team have picked up a Certificate of Merit (Team).

Nicholas Sleigh, Paul Mevel and Daniell Wilden - three of our pioneering Network Performance Improvement Managers, together with GM Operations Ron Bria, were recognised for their hand in reversing an eight-year decline in train punctuality. We have since seen 31 consecutive months of on-time performance above 90%.

Chief Operating Officer, Mike Houghton, recently presented gift vouchers to the wider team, includ-ing Shane Farrell and Jenna Willis, for their part in delivering superb gains in punctuality and delivery.

A group of women from across the business joined former Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, at a breakfast event as part of the Australian Institute of Manage-ment’s (AIM) ‘Outstanding Women Series’.

Forty employees from Projects, HR, Finance, Metrol, Rolling Stock and Network Strategy and Development, attended the event which was held at the Central Pier, Docklands on Friday 14 November.

Ms Gillard spoke about the new book she has written and shared some insights into her many experiences as Prime Minister.

Gender Balance and Diversity Manager, Barbara Glimmerveen, said Julia shared three pieces of

advice that were particularly powerful:

“1. In order to be resilient, find your driving sense of purpose: what makes it all worthwhile. When you find it, write it down and look at it again in times of adversity.

“2. Nurture an image of yourself that you are happy with. Don’t let others define your happiness because you'll never please all of the people all of the time.

“3. It’s important to create time for reflection in such a fast-paced, 24 hr culture. Taking the time out to think and plan your next steps is crucial.

“On behalf of the rest of the group, I’d like to express a warm thank you to L&D Training Coordinator, Sherry Mendes, for

giving us the opportunity to attend the event,” she said.

AIM celebrates the achievements of women through events like the Outstanding Women Series. AIM CEO, Daniel Musson Faim, said he was delighted to announce Julia’s appearance at one of the Institute’s most time-honoured women’s events. “AIM is thrilled to have the first female Prime Minister speak to our Fellows, Members and guests. “Ms Gillard has been a shining example to young ladies and women across Australia and this event is a major part of AIM’s commitment to the development of women at all stages of their careers,” he said.
