1. PREFACE

Congratulations on your purchase of this latest product from SSB-ELECTRONIC.

This tranceiver, from 10m to the 2m band, is a German quality product. It was developed and manufacturedin Germany.

The LT-200 distinguishes itself by the following product advantages: All Mode operable (all modulation and operating modes) Operation with tranceivers with seperate TX and RX transverter connections Very good TX and RX selection High IIP and OIP values of the receiver 25 W RF Outputpower RF output adjustment via the front panel Presetting of the maximum output power Split operation in 2m band Small dimensions

Attention: Before you start operating the LT-200, please read this manual carefully. Do not allowchildren to play with this device. Operation of this device is allowed only by persons with a validradiocommunication license. Preserve this manual carefully. It contains important operationalinstructions for the LT-200.

2. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

The LT-200 requires a stabilized DC supply of 13.8 V (DC 12-14 V) with a minimum current of 6 A. Forproper operation, make sure you have the correct polarity! Never supply the device with alternating voltageor insufficient stabilized DC voltage!

Do not expose the LT-200 to rain, snow or other liquids, or place drinks on the unit. The heat sink must neverbe covered, as this would prevent the necessary air circulation. The heat sink becomes hot duringcontinuous operation (e.g., FM, WSJT operation). This is not a malfunction.

Do not unscrew the LT-200. No recyclable parts are included. You would lose your claim to warranty.

The ambient temperature should not be below -10 ° C or above + 50 ° C.

The operating temperature is 0-40 ° C. Relative humidity, non-condensing 0-80%. For operation with adownstream power amplifier, it is absolutely necessary to use a correctly connected sequence control (forexample, SSB-Electronic DCW 2004 B item 1025, etc.) .

The LT-200 has a TX connector and RX connector for the circuitry with the transceiver. Ensure that thetransceiver's power output to the transverter jack is never more than 100 mW before performing the powersetting on the LT-200.

The PTT control of the LT-200 is time-controlled via the transverter's PTT output, or from the sequencer via ashielded control cable (chinch-cable)

Caution: When operating with a downstream power amplifier, set the output power of the LT-200 much lowerthan the maximum input power of your power amplifier, otherwise it can also be damaged!

Although the device is operated with low voltage, much higher voltages can occur at the antenna output ofthe device and at the antenna.

Please keep a safe distance from the antenna during transmission and never stay in the direct antennabeam. Never touch the antenna elements during transmission. Burns and electric shocks can result!

All components of a transceiver must be adequately earthed. An installation without good connection to the earth potential, especially in the mountain areas, can be electrostatically dangerous. Charging voltages can also result in electric shock, malfunction, or destruction of your equipment. Always stop operation during thunderstorms, for safety reasons.Take adequate shelter during these conditions and never stay near the installation or antenna.

The operator is in any case responsible for the proper set-up and operation of his system!

4. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

In the design of the LT-200, special emphasis was placed on a large-signal, low-noise receiver with a verylow pass-through gain and a powerful transmit converter with an intermodulation-poor transmission signal.State-of-the-art components and the unique technical solutions, enabled a compact design and theachievement of outstanding parameters. The LT-200 is designed for interconnection with transceivers that have a separate TX port for transverter. The phase noise-free and very frequency-stable overtone oscillator is built in a temperature-stabilizedmodule of 60 degrees. After reaching the operating temperature, the oscillator heater is supplied with shortcurrent pulses and the temperature is precisely stabilized with an electronic circuit. The frequency accuracyof the local oscillator is adjusted with a 10-turn potentiometer on the left side of the LT-200. This sets thefrequency matching of the conversion precisely.

In the preliminary stage of the receiver converter, a power LDMOS transistor with a very high OIP3 value anda relatively low noise figure is used. The mixer of the transverter is constructed as a tandem of two activehigh-performance mixers. This mixer is used without transceiver switching for the receiving part and for thetransmitting part of the transverter.

An amplifier stage after the active mixer, which would increase the OIP3 value to 40 dBm, was dispensedwith, since only the input IP3 value for the large signal strength is decisive and an increased gain of thetransverter would significantly reduce the receiving comfort.

On the sending side, the maximum desired output power of the LT-200, is adjusted with an attenuator tomatch the control performance of the transceiver.

The potentiometer for adjusting the output power is located on the front plate, easily accessible. The powersetting range is 20 dB, which is e.g. with a preset maximum output power of 10 W, enables a steplessreduction of the output power to 100 mW.

After the mixer of the transmitter converter, a four-circuit bandpass filter and blocking for the oscillator andmirror frequencies follows. The downstream MMIC amplifier sends the signal to the driver, which controls thepower amplifier. The driver and the output stage are implemented with LDMOS transistors.

The power amplifier has been equipped with a protective circuit which, with a VSWR of 1:2 at the maximumoutput power, safely switches it off. If this safety circuit has been activated, the red light (SWR) on the front ofthe device is indicated to the operator.

The transmission converter of the LT-200 produces a high-quality signal, with lowest distortion and very goodover- and undershoot suppression.

The transverter has two RF jacks for connecting the shortwave transceiver. The RX N socket is connected tothe receiver input (ANT socket) of the transceiver via a coaxial cable. The transverter output of thetransceiver (low power output) is connected to the SMA socket TX.The SMA socket PA OUTPUT is for the transmit output and the SMA socket ANTENNA RELAY is intendedfor the connection of the transmitting part to the internal antenna relay. When using an antenna cable for TXand RX, the PA-OUTPUT and ANTENNA RELAY connectors are connected via a short coaxial cable.

In a one-cable system, preamplifiers with relay switching must be used. We recommend SP-200 (SSB itemnumber 1032) or MHP-200 (SSB item number 1062), depending on the transmission power of the system. The preamplifier used can also be deactivated with the PREAMP switch of the LT-200 in systems without apower amplifier and with the PREAMP switch in the control system for systems with power amplifiers.

Split operation:

After removal of the coaxial connection between the SMA sockets PA OUTPUT and ANTENNA RELAY, theLT-200 is ready for split operation, see Figure 3.

In split operation, you may use any power amplifier without coaxial relais switching and preamplifier with orwithout coaxialrelay switching . A high-performance coaxial relay (e.g. AS-3000 SSB item number 5059) ismounted near the antenna. From there, two seperate coaxial lines lead to the station. The coaxial cable inthe transmission branch should be absolutely low-noise! We recommend the use of Ecoflex 10 or Ecoflex 10Plus, or Ecoflex 15 or Ecoflex 15 Plus.

When a receiving preamplifier is used on the antenna relay, a thinner coaxial cable may be used e.g. Aircell5 or Aircell 7 for the receiving branch.

In split mode, the signals of the receive branch can be distributed to several receivers.

If a reception preamplifier (for example SP-200 SSB-Item No. 1032 or MHP-200 SSB-Item No. 1062) isused, this can be controlled and supplied directly by the LT-200 (Figure 1). The PREAMP switch is used toenable and disable the preamplifier.

In the case of transmitter configurations, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the preamplifier is fed from thesequence control. A preamplifier without coaxial relay switching (for example LNA-200 SSB-Art.Nr.1011-NF)can also be used in the split mode (Figure 3). In this case, the operation without the preamplifier is notpossible and the LNA supply must remain activated during the sequence control.

5. INITIAL OPERATION

Place the LT-200 in a location with good air circulation near the transceiver. Implement the wiring of thesystem, depending on the components used, as indicated in Figures 1 - 3. To prevent impedance transformation in the system, avoid lambda ¼ cable lengths (or odd multiples) andcalculate the length of the cables according to the following formula:

Lambda : 2 x shortening factor x n (number n = 1. 2. 3. 4 ...)

For the internal coaxial connections between the components of the system we recommend the use ofcoaxial cables of type Aircell 5 or Aircell 7.

Avoid short-circuiting whilest plug-mounting connector. Be particularly careful here!

Note: Prefabricated coaxial cables in certified HF quality can be ordered at www.kabel-express.com orwww.ssb-electronic.de for your system. We guarantee fastest delivery in perfect HF quality!

Check the cabling of the system.

Connect the LT-200 to the power supply of the transceiver or an external power supply. Pay attention to thecorrect polarity! (Wrong polarity will destroy the transient fuse!).

The LT-200 is supplied with minimum adjusted output power.First of all check the PTT function without output power!

During the PTT test, the transceiver is switched to CW mode. The PTT button (e.g., foot pedal) is operated. The "TX" indicator lights of the LT-200, the "TX" of the transceiver and the "TX" control of the power amplifiermust light up.

Setting the output power:

Connect a power meter to the antenna output of the system.

Adjust the RF POWER setting on the front panel of the LT-200 to the maximum (right-hand stop 0 dB), then press the PTT button on FM or PTT, then press the Morset button on CW and carefully adjust the power setting (Potentiometer, device lying on the back ) Clockwise to set the maximum desired output power of the system.

ATTENTION: When using a downstream power amplifier, make sure that the power amplifier is not driventoo high.

Setting the frequency accuracy:Turn on the LT-200 and the transceiver and heat it about 20 minutes before the oscillators of the transceiver and the transverter reach their operating temperature.

Switch the transceiver to CW mode. The frequency of the transceiver, e.g. to exactly 28.2 MHz. The outputpower of the LT-200, with the power setting on the front panel, must be set to minimum (left stop, -20dB).

Insert an attenuator (for example, UNAT 20 N, SSB Item No. 5083) between the LT-200 frequency counterand antenna output. Then press the PTT button, then press the Morset button and use the potentiometer onthe left side of the LT-200 to set the frequency of exactly 144.2MHz on the frequency counter.

Commissioning is now complete.
