Wedding Banns III - Gary Pieper, Jr. & Valerie Leider Wedding Banns I - Dan Miller & Abby Kultgen Wedding Banns I - Nicholas Poggemann & Samantha Leiphardt Rosary in October - Sundays at 7:50 a.m. - RL; 1:00 p.m. - Dacada; Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. - Little Kohler We have three young adults preparing to enter the Catholic Church this fall through the RCIA Program. Please keep Don Walter, Dana Fischer and Shelly Buser in your prayers as they continue their preparation. SACRAMENTS/PRAYERS/NOTICES

Did you know? The Catholic Church believes that Jesus is truly present, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Eucharist. We believe this is true in both the consecrated bread and wine. This means that if you only receive the consecrated bread OR the consecrated wine, you are receiving both the Body and Blood of Christ. For instance, those who are gluten intolerant may receive the consecrated wine, or those who are recovering alcoholics may receive only the consecrated bread, and each receives the fullness of the Eucharist.

YEAR OF MERCY

Mercy Focus for October - Visit the Sick. Suggested actions include: Take the time to visit or send a card to someone you know who is sick, homebound or in a nursing home. Also, consider becoming a volunteer to take communion to the sick, if you don’t already do so. During the blessing of communion ministers to the sick at Mass, raise your hand in blessing as Fr. Todd prays over these ministers.

Year of Mercy: All Souls Remembrance Ministry. As we proceed through this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we continue to reflect on the Corporal Works of Mercy. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee would like to offer another opportunity to live out the corporal work of mercy “to bury the dead.” On All Souls Day, Wed., Nov. 2 at 9:00 a.m., the archdiocese will offer, to people of all faiths, the opportunity to bury the cremated remains of their loved ones in a community crypt at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7301 W. Nash St., Milwaukee. This service is provided free of charge. The act of burying the dead is consistent with our belief that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and deserves respect at all stages of existence. For a wide variety of reasons, families may have not yet provided for the final disposition of the cremated remains of family members. The cremated remains are often taken home with plans for proper disposition at some time in the future. Since many times cremated remains are never retrieved from the funeral home or crematory, those sites will also be offered the same opportunity to bring forth remains for respectful disposition. Registration information can be found at www.cemeteries.org/Cemeteries-Services/AllSouls.

Thank you to the Keith and Karen Feind family who have been shoveling the show at Lake Church for the last 10 years! It was very much appreciated! Lake Church Study Group - We will meet every second and fourth Thursday. Next meeting is Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9:00 a.m. at Pat Uselding’s house. We will begin praying with the book Rediscover Jesus, distributed to parishioners last Easter. Please read the first five chapters. Call Deb Hamm for information, or if you need a book.

October is Respect Life month. After Mass, baby bottles will be given out to be filled with loose change in support of the Women’s Support Center of Milwaukee. The Center helps women choose life for their unborn children and supports them throughout their pregnancy. Please return the bottle at the end of the month to the back of Holy Cross Chapel or to the DS parish office. Thanks for your support.

The DS Christian Ladies meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 11 at the Belgium Legion Hall. The evening will begin with a meeting at 7:00 p.m. which includes the treasurer and secretary's report and update of future activities within the organization. We will have a representative from the funeral food committee which is looking for volunteers to help with funeral meals. A fall activity plus refreshments will conclude the meeting. Scriptures: Hab. 1:2-3,2:2-4; 2 Tim 1:6-8,13-14; Luke 17:5-10

I apologize to those of you who regularly read the bulletin and to those who might look forward to reading this column, but I’d like to take this week to address the communication process that our cluster parish and school staffs uses to get information to our parishioners.

I would like to encourage all of you to take a few minutes each week to read our cluster bulletin. As a staff, we try very hard to include upcoming events in our parishes and school, as well as events at local parishes and in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, in our weekly bulletins. (We also have quarterly parish newsletters and DSCS sends out weekly newsletters to its parents and staff members.) We also try to post upcoming events on our websites. These media outlets are vital methods to advertise our events, from fundraisers to formation opportunities, from school and religious education events, to baptism and RCIA classes, Scripture and book study groups, mission trip information, prayer requests, and much, much more.

These forms of communication are the easiest and most cost effective ways in which to stay in touch with all of you. In our parish bulletins and newsletters, we try to make it convenient for readers by using bold headlines in each announcement to highlight the main idea. If you are in a hurry, you can simply skim the text for those topics of interest to you.

Countless times, staff members have received feedback (sometimes from very involved parishioners) that they knew nothing about a certain event that had been widely advertised for several weeks (or even months) in our bulletins and newsletters. I personally must apologize because I know I’ve snapped a few times at people who have said things like that to me when I know the particular event they are referring to has been widely publicized in a number of these media sources.

I know that there is a lot going on in our cluster parishes and school, and sometimes reading about all of these activities can be overwhelming. However, this is a sign of healthy faith communities. We should be proud of the number of events taking place here. Let’s take the time to inform ourselves. It only takes 10-15 minutes to read the entire bulletin; even less to skim the bold headlines.

Have a great week and happy reading! Deb Hamm, Pastoral Associate

October is here and so is a very special week for Divine Savior Catholic School. After several years of preparation, our accreditation visit is here at last. The visiting team will be here bright and early on Tuesday morning. They will join with our staff before the start of school for prayer and fellowship and then they will attend our school Mass. After that they will begin their study of our school. I am proud to say that our staff has done a fabulous job documenting what a wonderful school we have and I can’t wait for the team to see that. The visit will last two days. Please pray for our staff, students and families and for the visiting team as we proceed through the accreditation visit. This is a very special week indeed! On Friday, students and staff will have the day off and on Saturday, DSCS will be hosting our annual Dinner Auction. The event always proves to be a fun and fruitful evening for our school community. Thank you in advance for your generous donations and for joining our event to help raise funds for DSCS. The Catholic Schools Walk on October 15 is just around the corner. We have 37 walkers supporting our school! Please consider making a donation to this worthy cause. All of the money collected stays with DSCS and helps to support our tuition assistance program. Donations can be dropped off at the school office or placed in the collection basket. Please mark the envelope “Catholic Schools Walk”. DSCS is also collecting new or gently used shoes for the Catholic Schools Walk. All of the shoes collected go to the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Please considering sharing a pair or two of shoes that you no longer use to help those in need. Yours in Faith, Principal Lynn Sauer We have an antique piano at DSCS which is free to a good home! Please contact the school office if you are interested.

CLUSTER HUMAN CONCERNS SAINTLY FOOD FOR THOUGHT

St. Francis of Assisi, Feast Day October 4 “Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”

It seems like our world is bustling with activity and often we find ourselves caught up in so many activities we don’t even know where to start. Prioritizing isn’t always easy but this quote seems to shed a little bit of calm on the situation. Sometimes we just need to look at our schedule and think, is it really necessary that I do this and is it really possible that I accomplish it in this amount of time. It is noble to be involved in the community but we must also take time to care for ourselves, body, mind, and soul, and if that means missing that one sporting/social event just for some quiet prayer time, then we must weigh which is really necessary for us. If we take things one by one, cutting out that which isn’t really necessary and making time for that which is truly necessary, suddenly that schedule which seemed impossible gets accomplished with minimal stress.

Amanda Gronemeyer, OLL Outreach Coordinator

MOVIES WITH MEANING

Next Movie October 11: Into My Arms. Over 20% of all pregnancies in the US end in abortion. Very little is reported about the effect abortion has on women who go through the procedure. In this revealing documentary, we hear the very personal stories of five women who chose abortion. In their own words, the bravely share their struggles with remorse and the array of psychological challenges they faced after their decision. Their stories are explored by some of the world’s leading Christian counselors who offer hope for forgiveness and restoration. This is a movie for all adults, whether you or someone you know has had an abortion, or if you just want to understand better why women make this choice, and support them in their recovery post-abortion. Not appropriate for children. 58 minutes

The mission of Divine Savior Parish is to use all the means God has given us to be a life-giving example of Christ’s love in our

community and beyond. In cooperation with the global Catholic Church and the

Archdiocese of Milwaukee, we accomplish this through prayer, frequent celebration

of the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist, study and sharing of our faith,

service to all, and by providing our children with Catholic roots deeply embedded in

faith in God.

The mission of Divine Savior Catholic School is to provide an environment for

children to excel personally, academically and spiritually. Together we share in the

mission of Divine Savior Parish to foster a faith-filled community where Catholic

values are learned through prayer, service and love. Our goal is to use these values

to develop lifelong learners and compassionate leaders.

The mission of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Congregation is to be a life-giving sign of Christ’s love, justice, and peace in our area of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, through the celebration of the sacraments,

especially the Eucharist, community prayer, spiritual reflection, and a commitment of

service to God’s people.
