The proposed plans are for a unique retail space in Melville, Johannesburg, using shipping containers as the modules of the design. The proposed development is intended for Faan Smit Park and will combine green space with retail. Tenants will include artists, designers and retailers of niche products. Two containers have been reserved for local community organisations.

• To get this zoning took from 1999 – 2006• Rezoning for other will again take about 6 years and lots

of determination

In the time it originally took to get the rights to use the land the buildings on the land were nearly completely destroyed by fire and vagrants invaded the property so much so that it became dangerous for residents in the area.

Rezoning again for other usesThis means that any person or group that want to change the zoning will require a lot a patience and the finances to pull if off

• Various individuals and groups have, over the last 14 years, attempted to take over the development of the land for various different proposals like cultural gardens but nobody has so far been successful.

• This, due to a lack of sustainable funding and sustainable project proposals
