Dear Parents, Staff and Children,

Prep Orientation

Last Thursday we welcomed 36 future Preps into our school. With a mix of new and existing families, it

was lovely to see so many eager faces ready to get their first taste of school life. It was also incredibly

heart warming to watch on as children who didn’t know anyone, ended the session with new found

friends.

We look forward to our next session this Wednesday.

Colour Run

Our sincerest thanks again to the FOSW team for their coordination of The Colour Run. We have raised

approximately $2000 but we are still waiting on some families to return sponsorship money.

Congratulations to Zoe Watt who was the highest fundraiser with a total of $195. Great effort Zoe!

Well done also to the following children who were the highest fundraisers for their class:

FOSW

Thankyou to our wonderful FOSW team for their time and effort coordinating the sausage sizzle on

election day. Finishing up at around 4.00pm, the team cooked and sold approximately 500 sausages.

Instrumental Concert

A reminder to families with children involved in Matt Rich’s instrumental program that their concert is

this Friday evening at 6.30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your hard work throughout

the year. We also look forward to some lunchtime performances during the last couple of weeks of

term.

Yard Supervision Before and After School

We remind families that before and after school, teachers on duty are supervising school students

entering and leaving the school grounds. Whilst they will monitor school students on the equipment in

the morning, any toddlers must be under the direct supervision of their parents. In the afternoon, all

children must be under the supervision of their parent on the equipment as teachers are ensuring

student pick ups.

Shade Sails

Thanks to the kind donation from the Premier’s office and the hard work of FOSW, we have now begun

the process of having shade sails installed over the summer break. We are fortunate that the funds will

allow for sails over the existing and new playground.

A few weeks ago, on the 12th of November, I went to the Town Hall to receive an award from the Fred Hollows Foundation. When I got there, I had to sit down with a group of kids from schools all across Victoria. After that, former Premier of Victoria, John Brumby, got up to talk to us. After that, we all lined up to get our awards. When we got up on the stage to collect our award, we shook the hand of John Brumby and collected our award. – Kayne Beasy, 5/6P What is the Fred Hollows Humanity Award? The Award recognizes Year 6 students who follow in Fred Hollow’s footsteps by making a positive difference in their community. It celebrates students who show compassion, integrity and kindness in their everyday lives, just as Fred did. Kayne was nominated by Sunbury West Primary School for the contributions that he has made throughout his time at Sunbury West.

Kayne is an intrinsically motivated student, who strives to achieve success in all are-as of his education. He is a hard working individual, who sets an excellent example for his peers and the school community. Kayne is a very resilient student, who is able to be flexible and overcome challenging circumstances.

This year, Kayne was elected as a Student Representative on the school's Junior School Council. He was also selected to be a Peer Mediator, where he assists students to solve mi-nor playground issues through mediation.

We congratulate and com-mend Kayne for his efforts.

5/6T with Carla Krizanic

This term, for the last six weeks, the grade 5/6s have walked down to the Bowling Club. Every Thursday,

two grades would learn how to play lawn bowls. Each class went four times so that meant that one class

missed out every week! Each session went for an hour.

The first week, we learnt the rules of the game and how to play then we played two games – ‘Ditch to

Ditch’ and ‘Spider’. To win Ditch to Ditch, your bowl had to be closest to the edge of the green, without

going into the ditch. To win Spider, your bowl had to be the closest to the Jack. We all bowled at the same

time and the winner was awarded a lollipop.

The remaining weeks, we were grouped in fours and we would warm up and practise our technique. Then

we would play a game with our fours, followed by a team game of ‘Corners’. In the game Corners, four

teams competed against each other. The object of the game was to get as many of your team’s bowls

closest to the game. After four rounds, the team with the highest points won a lollipop – YUM!

We were also lucky to meet and have some coaching from Carla Krizanic, who is our current Australian

Champion. She most recently won a Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Overall, it was really, really fun. Thank you to the Bowling Club for having us!
