“Good communication is the bridge between confusion and clarity.”
Hello Everybody,
It is great to be back. It was fantastic to see
the smiling faces on Monday morning and
the Grade 5/6 students have just slipped
back into things as if I haven’t been away.
A lot took place in my absence, in particular
the School Review, and a big thank you to
Marty Gray and Neil Hopkins who
undertook the Principal role and teaching
of Grade 5/6 in my absence. It was very
reassuring to know the school was in good
hands.
Lake Boga Visit By all accounts the children had a great
visit to Lake Boga last Friday. The students
in Grade 5/6 were asked to write about the
day. Here are two recounts:
Do it for Dolly Day – by Lyla Morton On Friday our school went to Lake Boga for Do it for Dolly day. It is about this girl that got bullied so bad she committed suicide. So sad. First we talked about respect, playing together, gratitude and kindness. A teacher, I think called Sarah, showed us a Power Point about Dolly. It was interesting. Then she broke us up into groups. I was with Maddi, Claire, Cooper and Lake Boga kids. Once we were in our groups, we went to the kitchen. We were cooking scones. First we made whipped cream and then dyed them blue. We added blueberry jam onto the scones. We then added whipped cream on top. We got to eat it straight away. It was so good. It was delicious! The second activity was with Miss Crook. We talked about bullying and then we were handed a sheet of paper. On it were some sentences in a grid. You had to tick it if it was bullying, not bullying or maybe. The next activity was the last. It was writing nice things on pieces of paper and we put them into jars. I wrote five. After that we had lunch. The grade ¾ got a footy clinic, so once we finished lunch we did it. I was the only girl at Murrabit that went to the footy clinic. When the bell rang everyone went inside. Sara talked for a bit about respect, playing together, gratitude and kindness once again. Then we had our photo taken. Once the photo was taken we got our bags and got on the bus back to school. I sat next to Claire. It was a super fun day. I cannot wait until next year, if we do it again.

Water Day – by Callum Ettershank Last week, on Friday, our school went to Lake Boga to see a man called Dean. Dean was going to talk to us about water storage and Lake Boga. We went to the park just outside the museum. When we got there, Dean gave us all a tote bag each containing a water bottle, a map of Victorian waterways, a pamphlet with 42 facts about water on it and a piece of paper with pictures of water wheels and regulators on it. Dean worked for Goulburn Murray Water. He spoke to us about Lake Boga, Catalina’s, water storage, water wheels, regulators, silt and the Catalina’s anchors. He told us that Goulburn Murray Water was encouraging farmers to us solar powered regulators instead of water wheels so they can monitor how much water they are using. Dean showed us all the waterways on the map and told us what they were called. Dean explained how many megalitres of water there was in the lake and how many litres there were in a megalitre. He told us lots of stuff we didn’t know and it was all very interesting. After Dean talked to us, we went over to the pier and walked down it. There were lots of pelicans on it. There was also lots of pelican poo on the pier. Then we went back up to the park and got back on the bus to go to Lake Boga Primary School for Do it for Dolly Day.

Regional Cross Country
Championships…June 1st Good luck to Sophia, Jobe, Cooper and Xavier
who will be travelling to St Arnaud next
Tuesday, 1st of June to compete in the Regional
Championships. What a mighty effort from our
four students! Do your best and most
importantly, enjoy your run! Thank you to our
parents who will be supporting this day.
Lightning Premiership…June 3rd This event will be held in Kerang at Riverside
Park on Thursday, 3rd of June. Children in
Grades 4-6 will be involved in this competition.
Our children will either be playing netball (with
Koondrook) or Tee Ball. We will be leaving at
9.05am and returning at 3.15pm. Children
require a cut lunch, drinks and a coat.
Koondrook will be supplying the netball
uniforms and our Tee-Ball players need to wear
their school jumpers with suitable shorts and
shoes. We will require help to transport the
children. If you can help on this day, please let
me know by this Friday. A note will be sent
home at the end of the week regarding this
event.
GRIP Student Leadership Conference…
…generosity, respect, integrity and people.
How lucky were our three grade 6 students to
attend this practical and interactive training
conference for student leaders. There would
have been over 400 grade 6 students from
across our region who attended this event .
Here are some thoughts from Claire and Xavier
(Leah absent) - It was a fun day out. We learned
a lot about leadership. The hosts Andy and Carl
were very funny. The activities were lots of fun
too. We liked the loud noises and the acting
activity that went from getting on a motorcycle
to a bird. Wow, did that go wrong! We met lots
of other students throughout the day and guess
what? Dustie was there and he came and sat
with us.
This opportunity was a great experience. It has
certainly encouraged us to lead and we
recommend that you go.
Do it for Dolly…
… anti-bullying at Lake Boga.
We had a terrific day at Lake Boga and thank
you to Mr Gray who helped organise this event.
Special thanks to Ms Crook who presented our
talk on bullying and how important it is to have
someone to talk to if you are feeling sad. Ms
Crook had a personal connection to Dolly’s
family which made the story even more
poignant. The key points of being grateful,
kind, respectful and playing together were
positively highlighted. The children were
placed in groups and participated in a number
of different activities. It was a lovely day out
and our early morning visit to the lake was
informative and interesting as well. Thank you
to Dean from Goulbourn Murray Water who
spoke to the children about the lake and they
were all very grateful to receive a bag of
goodies. We are lucky!
P.S. And a BIG thank you to Murray who got
us there and back safely. (The best bus driver in
the north!)
Welcome We would like to welcome Josephine
Drummond to our 3 /4 class. She will be
arriving on Friday and working with our
students until the end of this term. She is
looking forward to her placement at Murrabit
with our Mighty Murrabit students. We know
that she will love our school.
